This was originally from the VN, which I can safely say the VN is leagues more complex than the anime, they had to tone down a lot as well as simplify story/events in order to get it on TV and to fit in episode format. I'd highly suggest watching a playthrough or even finding the english patch and getting it, there's so much more story and character development to be had.
When I first heard this watching the show, I thought it was just electronic sounds, then I thought it was Japanese, only to watch this and find out It's in English.
If you love the anime then you should consider playing the visual novel. It goes in depth of each character and each route which the anime could only summarize it in 12ish episodes (I say 12ish because the 13 episode is basically the bad endings which is important to each story but it's also an OVA and it really didn't have to do with the first 12 episodes. Think of it as a bonus episode but summarized and heavily censored/shows no yucky stuff like how the usual novel did).
