It's Gerrard and Lampard again (Foden and Bellingham), need a different formation or positions to get best of both. Foden as false 9, or Bellingham along side Rice with back 3 and inverted right fullback, neither is perfect solution 🤷🏼♂️
Just do what should have happened with Lampard/Gerrard, drop the weaker (Lampard/Foden) and play the stronger (Gerrard/Bellingham). Trying to play both just weakens the team a a whole. The best team is the best _team_ -- not simply a collection of our best players shoehorned into playing out of position just so they can be on the pitch.

In my eyes its simple and being made way too complicated. I don't see that both can play, so we choose one and play them at number 10. The one we choose is dictated by who is up front. Kane drops very deep, so when he plays it makes sense to have Bellingham with his ability to surge into the box as we saw yesterday. However, if Watkins is up front, who doesn't drop as deep and is more lively and willing to run in behind, then Foden's passing and ability to unlock a defense to set him in behind would be more of an assett. Basically the combos should he Kane/Bellingham or Watkins/Foden as they each bring different dimensions to the team.

Once again, putting square pegs in round holes, love Foden but need to have the bravery to drop him, Bellingham for Foden as a sub is a great option if we have a comfortable lead in a game, if we’re losing you can bring Foden on for one of the deeper midfielders and go all out. Gordon’s probably the best shout in terms of balancing the team.
Call me an idiot but If Southgate wants Foden on the pitch because of his talent, then he should change his tactics to let Foden flourish. Foden doesn't play well on the left, we've known this in every tournament yet Southgate doesn't change his tactics to accommodate this. He should play a 4-3-2-1 aka Christmas tree formation if he wants to best utilise Foden and Bellingham. Maybe set the centre CM back as a CDM and put Rice there, then put in Gallagher to press and Trent to spread the ball around. Or you can swap out one of those two for Mainoo or Wharton. Whatever is decided, at least it will allow for both Foden and Bellingham to play as 10's and flourish with the natural skill they have. Just my opinion.

The problem isn't individual players, it's the manager playing a formation and system that offers ZERO chemistry.

Just do what should have happened with Lampard/Gerrard, drop the weaker (Lampard/Foden) and play the stronger (Gerrard/Bellingham). Trying to play both just weakens the team a a whole. The one we choose is dictated by who is up front.
Kane drops very deep, so when he plays it makes sense to have Bellingham with his ability to surge into the box as we saw yesterday.
However, if Watkins is up front, who doesn't drop as deep and is more lively and willing to run in behind, then Foden's passing and ability to unlock a defense to set him in behind would be more of an assett.
Basically the combos should he Kane/Bellingham or Watkins/Foden as they each bring different dimensions to the team.

Once again, putting square pegs in round holes, love Foden but need to have the bravery to drop him, Bellingham for Foden as a sub is a great option if we have a comfortable lead in a game, if we’re losing you can bring Foden on for one of the deeper midfielders and go all out. Gordon’s probably the best shout in terms of balancing the team.

Call me an idiot but If Southgate wants Foden on the pitch because of his talent, then he should change his tactics to let Foden flourish. Foden doesn't play well on the left, we've known this in every tournament yet Southgate doesn't change his tactics to accommodate this. He should play a 4-3-2-1 aka Christmas tree formation if he wants to best utilise Foden and Bellingham. Maybe set the centre CM back as a CDM and put Rice there, then put in Gallagher to press and Trent to spread the ball around. Or you can swap out one of those two for Mainoo or Wharton. Whatever is decided, at least it will allow for both Foden and Bellingham to play as 10's and flourish with the natural skill they have. Just my opinion.
