      Mike, thanks for these videos, I have a 75 shovel head, my lower cases are leaking. What do use to seal them. Is there anyway for me to reseal it buy not taking them fully apart. Would I be able to seal them, if I can get them split a little bit apart. I never took a lower end apart. I only worked on barrels and above. Thanks if you could answer that for me

    Excellent video again Mike! Just wanted to report that I got my cam shim and cam and tappets and blocks all put together. And everything is turning smoothly. I put a new S&S oil pump on there too. My end play on the cam ended up being .009 I'm gonna leave that. I'm pretty happy with it. I'm going from the stock .390/.390 cam to an Andrews #3 for shovelhead at .514/.514 with a complete new S&S top end. I had tech at Andrew's and S&S on the phone. And they said it would work fine with my setup. As long as I double check everything and get everything right. It's for a low compression setup. Mine is 8:1. My lifters/tappets and pushrods are S&S as well. I'm looking forward to getting it done and fired up! Coming very soon. Quick question. Why does the manual state the lifters/tappets should be clean and free of lube for push rod adjustment? Thanx for the great videos! Wish I was going to born free too!

      It will take some disassembly and careful inspection. I fought and put up with one for years that was a flaw in the front cylinder head at the top where the rocker box mated to it. I filled it with all kinds of stuff. Finally, I yanked it off and had it heliarced. You just gotta look for it.

    Awsome video! My 76 shovelhead leaks from the crankcase ventilation when the bike is turned off, what can be the problem?

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The oil is getting past the little ball and spring in the oil pump and filling the crankcase. The bike is either sitting too much or the ball and spring need cleaning or replacing. Standard problem from 36-90. If the bike has been sitting for too long, put a pan under it before starting it. Let it run until the system balances out. The crankcase has filled. The condition is called "wet sumping."

The motor is 80 cubic inches. The heads are STD, slightly warmed over by Mr. Dave Mackie. The rest? Well a little this and a little that.

    Mike, 1968 FLH shovelhead, leaks when on the side stand, leaks pretty good too, but not when standing straight up. Seams to me I have heard that is typical of a certain situation but I can't remember what that situation is, to much oil in crankcase or primary or breather hose leak... do you have an idea of what I should look for/at?

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it leaks when it sits for a while without being run, it is simply "wet-sumping." That means, due to gravity and the actual weight of the oil, it has manged to sneak past the check ball in the oil pump, fill the crankcase and run out the crankcase breather hose. Run it oftener or put a pan under it when you first start it and let it puke the oil out into the pan. It will balancve out soon and be fine. Or, you have a transmission leak. Perhaps you ought to have a look underneath.

      Just look at the ads. There should be plenty where you are. Craig's List is not bad. The Green Sheet.

      @@pacificmike9501 thank you. My next question how hard to convert evolution from EFI to carburetor?

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a pretty lengthy procedure. Evos with injection, are the early "Magnetti Marelli" systems. Very difficult to diagnose and modify. They are however integrated into the bike. Changing the entire wiring harness, replacing the entire intake system (intake manifold and carb, fuel tank, petcock and air cleaner) and the entire ignition system is quite an undertaking.

    The man who asks a question seems dumb for a minute. The man who doesn't is dumb for a lifetime 🤔. Keep asking those questions cameraman Mike 😊

    Oh come on...your just finding excuses to get a bit more intimate with your girl, that is why you enjoy taking bits off her...to "check" for issues.
    Or she very high demanding and very high maintenance?

      I was out for a ride one day and saw a buddy of mine on his pretty hot Evo he was riding at the time. Well, some things can't be helped and the race was on. When I pulled over and we began speaking, he said, "I always figured that thing was "Chalk full a' nuts." And it is. There are "goodies galore."
