- In this video I am back in Northumberland shearing and I am joined by big Sean from Orkney again. This is day 1 of 10 days we spent down there where we shore A LOT of sheep.
They are a hill breed and are small but very VERY lively. They take a bit of holding onto when shearing and they all have woolly bellies to negotiate. They are a hard working ewe that produce a good number of lambs for a hill breed.

ABOUT ME
I’m 30 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland. That’s why I have such a strong accent!! I was born and raised in sheep with my dad being a shepherd on an Ayrshire farm.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep.
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then, in 2015, my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could keep my hand in. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 ewes.
I shear over 10,000 sheep a season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep scanner and have been building up my run since then so I have a good income stream in summer and winter.
I watched a few farm vlogs on TH-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

Bfl x Beulah = welsh mule ( speckled faced )
Bfl x welsh mountain = welsh mule ( white faced )
Border Leicester x Welsh mountain = welsh halfbred

Yeah Beulahs are a breed in their own right! No cross required. Beulahs are no relation to Welsh Mountain!

@@TheSheepGame ye are no joke!!!which type of combs do you prefer to use in general wider ones or not or what difference is in them?
I like quantums although i have a few warriors i’ve been using last few days! Wide combs are good here. Most ewes are easy shearing.

Clipping any Ryelands on your travels? We’re based in Northumberland and had to clip our own this year. Hard work, especially the woolly faces😂

We finished our season today ! Yeah mine are the white face with ginger speckles bought broken mouthed going as culls this year had texels over them so the lambs look well... I'd be interested in buying some blackie ewe lambs off you next year if you sell like that ? Loving your videos mate!

Great video and channel! Looking at getting a handpiece but between the lister scorpion and the icon fx? How do you find the fx? How does it run when its lighter than other hand pieces?
Icon FX is the best handpiece on the market. I stuck with my old Icon for a year after the FX came out and once I got onto the FX I wished i'd just got onto it straight away. They run great and there's a reason every top shearer (that isn't sponsored by Lister) is using them! =D

@@TheSheepGame I picked up the FX since, took it for a burn and tried it out on ewe lambs we have housed inside and crutching ewes ahead of the ram to help them along lol Nice and nimble handpiece, lovely bit of kit 👍 I won't be going back in any rush to the older handpiece's we have at home 😅🤣
I saw his video of I think Simon one of the little lambs of his something was wrong with him maybe eyes. Do you know the update about him Cammy? The young Scot's have some deep voices. Lol.

I love good going blackie hoggs. Charrolais out the blackie were some of the fastest sheep i’ve shorn. Small with nice skins! 😁
@@TheSheepGame I've got around 400 breeders but they are tight and sticky. Would like to breed it out of them, but can nae afford a blackie tup. Some buzz! This is the year you'll put 30 around Archie. No doubt.

Some of the ewe's down this way are stupid huge, chap i lamb for and do some shepherding for has Suffolk x Border Leicester ewes on a Texel ram, and some ruddy large Oxfords as well (total arses to work with).

It’s getting wild now John! Plan was to whip it off with the sheep shears when I did the 10k but we’ve lost so many days to rain I might not last that long!😂

Sean is from way up north on the Orkney Islands. Cammy is from the southwest of Scotland.

Sean was amazing! In general, not if racing, not on a difficult lamb, how long does it take to sheer one lamb usually? You all seem to go very fast. Amazing. 👍👍🐑🐑🐑

Nah Max I’ll still be using them the farmer there just wanted us to use new mocks on his sheep. He had 6000 so we used his trailer and all fresh gear for bio security reasons.
