Awesome video and great test! Just my two cents here... I think it would be better if you put some gates on all 6 lines. Also, I know it is a hassle, but maybe you should test on the same set of Beadlock wheels and the same foam inserts. This way you would really test only the tire and remove all other variables. Keep up the good work!
I’m trying to get in to rc crawling and trying to find a 1/10 scale truck that is good for beginners if any one knows of a great crawler under 500$ I would appreciate your help
What timing, I was thinking of searching for Proline Hyrax vs. Proline BFGoodrich Krawler. So I’m asking to add the Proline BFGoodrich Krawler to the shot out.
Here's my suggestions: Pit Bull Growler AT Pro-Line Grunt JConcepts Landmines The first is growing in popularity, the second was just recently released, and the third is not only just getting released, but has already garnered a huge amount of interest.
Interesting video as usual from your channel! Please consider other surfaces on your next video ( wet rock, dirt, roots) as well as some side hill on all surfaces. I would also suggest Duratrax Deep Woods with decent foams (stock are too soft). Really interested on what you will come up for the next episode!
I would like to point out that I have a set of the canyon Traxxas tires that came on my trx4 bronco. After some time the foams were wore down enough so that the tire would squat about a quarter of an inch before it hit the foam. And I've never had anything get traction like that canyon A/T with ragged foams.
The fail in this vid is that you didn't highlight the shortcomings of the Hyrax. Primarily that it's a rock centric tire. Put it in loose terrain and it's poop!
Good advice to find loose terrain. So far though with us, it is one of the good performers in loose terrain around here. Sidehilling and wet is where it's not dialed, so far.
Pretty much the same conclusion that my group has found in my area. Clean dry rock and they work better than most, wet or dusty rocks not so well and dry loose soil hill climbs tend to be more challenging. And so far as I know, SORRCA rules still apply and shouldn't be included in competition.
Honestly I disagree. They do amazing in sand and wet rock at least for me they do. I think it's a matter of weight distribution. My rig is nearly 50/50 balanced with low center of gravity and single stage foams and the hyraxs don't struggle on any terrain really.
This test was good. But it you need more "dirt" test and a wood board test also. This test was too much rock. Many of us dont have so much rock around us and we drive more dirt and such things.
That was a great tire test. I would like to see the RC4WD Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 1.9" 4.19" Tires & RC4WD Milestar Patagonia M/T 1.9" Rock Crawler Tires (X2S³) to here your thought
Really a good technical compare ! We are still investigating on many tires because they are 80% of the result. Many are good in dry conditions, but very few with wet and a few mood over rocks. We did similar modification as you have done on Traxxas Canyon Trail: in all case having less dowels gives better performance ! Many tires comes from real tire design, BUT we must consider scale factor: weight decrease by 3 dimensions, while area by 2 dimensions ! This means that using same tire design make lower ground pressure and this get lower traction ! Removing dowels make less contact area and so more ground pressure, coming more similar to real 1:1 vehicles.
I tested the canyon's with the mod and they are not bad. I have been rocking the pit bull rock beasts and am not impressed. I might switch them up soon.
How many hours do you have on the Rock Beasts and where do you run? I hated mine when I got them... but after running them for a good 20+hrs or so, they and the foams seemed to get better. They still don't like loose loamy dirt or the wet, but on rocks... they're pretty darn good.
do you have the rockbeasts 1.9 xl? i tested both 1.9 and 1.9 xl and the xl is very bad compared to the normal 1.9 which has similar performance to hyrax
@@trailcrawler2038 I have some good hours on them. Mostly run on granite rock. But I been waiting a little longer before a proper review. Just for maybe a little more break in. My prolines seen to just be a little more better.
@@RCPropaganda Interesting. I've used the Hyrax in G8, and prefer (by a margin) my Rock Beasts in Comp compound. Though, I did not use the Hyrax much, as I borrowed them from a friend during our trail run.
the book racing hustlers look impressive. Also I wonder about wheel mass in your testing, knowing it makes a huge difference with traction. Was there much of a variance of the test wheels uaed?
Great video and with some really good info and comparative data. Like others I would like to see similar tests on other surfaces more trail related (not an abundance of rocks in the Midwest). Only other suggestion is the one regarding starting with the stock tires as the baseline. So I appreciate the test info and understand that it’s nearly impossible to test every tire out there and to make everyone happy - I think the approach taken is reasonable, although don’t understand why testing 2 TRX sets. Thanks.
I seem to be quite late to the party, but I've had nothing but good experiences with my RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. I have them in both 4.19 and 4.75 versions (1.9s). It would be nice to see how they stack up in a direct comparison to something like the Hyrax. Also if anyone has already done this comparison, can anyone point me in the direction please?
@@Cranklotus I haven't been able to find a direct comparison, but I'm still running the 4.75 claws on my trailrunner with no issues what so ever. Great tires for a decent price. The only problem I ever had was mounting them on my 2 piece rims. That was a bit of a pain. But the trailrunner climbs almost vertical with them, so I'm impressed!
I have some for sale. But special Race Tread , on double, reverse tread, counter rotation cut, bogger/crawler/rock/mud AT Radials on double sided beadlock slotted mags. Cheap too. Send me a check.
So the company that made the canyon trail tire, what do you think they are thinking at the shop when they see everyone mods the tire to make it work? Think they will change it?
Tires are completely terrain specific though. Up here in the PNW it's very popular to run Proline Swampers in Predator. I was skeptical till I tried them on my TRX4. With dual stage foams, they are awesome in this terrain! Kind of do it all, but could be better for pure rock terrain. Great for wet, loose woodsy stuff like we have up here... Still good on the rocks though.
Have you tested, or can you test, the Proline Flat Iron XL 1.9 tires....? I have the original 2.2 non-xl on one of my trucks and love it, and would love to see how the newer ones stack up against some of these others...
Maybe if one test per set of tires, you had a spray bottle of water and sprayed a bit on some rock surfaces to see what would happen ? Moisture always seems to add some grip issues among tire compounds 🧐👍
I have to say that I cant completely agree with how the km3 performed I use it in all my rigs but in G8 compound. Never had a problem in any terrain. But then again my trucks are heavier than stock trucks
Great idea, keep the best of this test as a benchmark for later videos. A stock tyre shootout would be cool too, and include Tamiyas tyres.

You should do a test on mud slingers

Nice job, I like how you have tried to keep it all the same by using the same truck. I really like what you guys are doing. Thanks 👍
Yeah, changing tires 4x on the field was a task but it was key.
Here's my suggestions:
Pit Bull Growler AT
Pro-Line Grunt
JConcepts Landmines

Duratrak Deepwood with dual stage foam !! yes and what Brent said Hustler also !!

Pittbull Rockbeast XL

Best stock tire and the new TRX-6 is perhaps the best kit tire ever.
Proline krawler t/a kx tires are awesome I wish proline made them in a class 1 tire size
