TOOTH DECAY? | FAMILY DENTAL APPOINTMENT & DAY IN THE LIFE | AD

  • Today’s video is a Day in the life of our family dentist appointment. A couple of weeks ago myself, Matt and the boys went to visit Dr Uchenna Okoye, the Oral-B Smile Director for a family dental check-up in London. She shared some great top tips on how to look after my kids teeth, and I’m really excited to be sharing them with you! I was shocked to discover that there is a national child dental health issue in the UK and that 46% of children aged 8 have tooth decay, which just isn’t good enough! That’s why myself and Oral-B are on a mission to help educate parents on how to look after their children's teeth, because strong teeth make strong kids! #OralBKids, #OralB, #StrongTeethMakeStrongKids
From three years of age, children should be using an electric toothbrush with a round brush head, this is best for plaque removal and the best for their gums! I couldn’t recommended these brushes enough, my boys love them!
Thank you to Oral-B for arranging our dental appointment with Dr Uchenna, and for sponsoring this video :-)

Great video Emily, such good advice to share! I’m a dental assistant and have been for 15 years and it’s so important to get that message out that tooth decay is completely preventative and instilling such great oral care and routine is the key with children.

I am always so self conscious about my teeth, so I think it's great the way you addressed how detrimental it is to one's mental health as well as just physical. I was unlucky as a child to have a mother who didn't take me to the dentist for 5 years during a crucial period. I am now due to have jaw surgery this year and have my braces off! My little boy is 7 and I make sure he understand the importance. Sadly our twin girls have an enamel defiency due to them being premature but we have been told it should correct itself with the adult teeth, we have to be even extra careful with them. I struggle when they go to the inlaws because they just give them treats all the time and I'm like ahhh but we have to be even more careful. Loving your videos.

You are doing an amazing job as a TH-camr and the fact that you allow us to follow your family life is a privilege, it is not a right and I think some commenters would be advised to remember that and perhaps take a leaf out of your book and go forth with positivity rather than being negative and nitpicking.

I switched to electric toothbrush. It cleans just the same but I don’t have to worry about exerting too much strength and possibly hurting my baby’s gums. Brushing is still a struggle since I still have to pin my baby down many times but it’s easier. And right after brushing, my baby goes back to playing like nothing happened. 😊 And having my baby watch a brushing teeth song helps. 😊

Such a coincidence! I had a dental appointment today. And my daughter came along (7 and a half months) and I got him to check out her tooth that just poked through. So cute - Alice, my daughter didn’t enjoy it too much 🤣 and we went out and brought her first little toothbrush today! So cute 💗 I am also really into dental hygiene and when I watch documentaries or the news and read articles and see little children having teeth removed at 3 years old makes me so angry! Those poor kiddies! Parents have a duty to look after their children’s teeth. 4 minutes a day is nothing! Xxxxx

Emily, i found this video really useful and I think you can tell that you put a lot of thought into which companies you work with. Your 'ads' have always been really relevant to me as a mum (which is why I watch your channel) ..you always make them more than just an ad too and show how it fits into your life. I have seen some ads that last 2 minutes and simply show the product! I think your channel is great and you do so well to make it your job so that your boys can have you at home.Surely that's every mums dream. Xx

I have to say I'm slightly dubious of the figures the government gives about dental problems in young children. For example I have three children all under three who brush their teeth (have them brushed!) twice a day. Two have had a tooth out because they've grown additional teeth which have caused a lot of pain pushing other teeth and causing infections. So they're in the statistics but they're not there through any fault of mine or their own. I just wonder how many children are like mine?
Not hating, obviously oral hygiene is very very important. I just feel slightly dubious about the statistics.
Should also add I'm 27 and cavity free and husband is 31 and just had his first ever filling, so we're very conscious about oral hygiene!

I would agree, and some people genetically have better teeth (I only brush my teeth once a day and no cavities, and I know people who brush twice a day and floss and have fillings). And as you say, other teeth cause huge issues! I'm currently feeling my wisdom teeth coming through and I can tell that they are going to create issues despite never having a cavity or a single issue with my teeth previously. Makes me so sad because I look after my teeth so well and they are going to ruin my mouth with infections

There’s no such rule that children 3 and up should be using an electric toothbrush. That’s just an oral B marketing tactic.... manual and electric toothbrushes have the same effectiveness..... this is ridiculous! Spend little money and buy whatever you can for your kids and switch them out frequently. I say this because I’m a board certified pediatric dentist trained in the US and Canada. Emily I love you and your videos but perhaps taking dental tips from a company whose only goal is selling these electric toothbrushes is not a great idea and lets ESPECIALLY not spread this misinformation to all your viewers!
