    The model repaired in this video is a Panasonic DMR-ES30V.
    The switching regulator part number is MR1521. Location number is IC11201.
    One side note. This model has a delayed turn on when you press the power button, so don't panic if you replace the IC and it doesn't immediately come on.
    If you would like to know more about power supply repair I'd like to suggest you check out this link. powersupplyrep...

    I had the same problem and got the exact replacement part you recommended on eBay. That and one of the Zener diodes was was blown. When I replaced both, the machine came back to life! The LED display is very dim however, but recording and dubbing are working again. Thanks!!

    I have a rather expensive and old VCR that I have no power going to. I really want to fix it and will use this video as a guide. I have lots of old home videos that I haven't viewed in many years. I recently lost my mother and would love to play back some old family videos for my father, brothers and sisters. Here's hoping I can figure it out, thanks. Hopefully 2022 will be a much better year for all.

    Had this exact same model DVD recorder just fail over the holidays in a similar way with an error code F09 displayed on the front panel but no other functionality. Then I stumble across this video that you had posted just the day before, what a coincidence! I tested the chopper IC and found rapidly varying voltages on several pins and the high voltage output from the board was unstable around 21V, (vs. I believe nominal is 17V). The 12.5V and 5.8V output rails seemed to be ok though. The board was also discolored from heat around the chopper IC. Found a new old stock MR1521 part on eBay and now the box is perfectly functional again. Thanks for sharing your findings!

    Great video! Did you clean the laser and replace any belts while you were in there? Also, longer videos (maybe with diagnosis & repairs) would be appreciated. Happy new year!

      When VCR/DVD comes in for repair sometimes I'll clean the VCR heads and or the laser as long as I have the unit apart, but not necessarily the belts unless it's obvious they need to be replaced. The unit was damaged from a power surge, so addressing the damage this caused was my main concern.

    Keeping another one out of the recycle bin! Thank you Dave. What is the video of driving in the background? looks quite relaxing.

      Hi Steve, The background might have been a wind walk travel video. Check out his channel. th-cam.com/channels/Pur06mx78RtwgHJzxpu2ew.html

    I want to start with electronics may as well be a foreign language to me…I have this exact machine and I bet it doesn’t have 10 hours of use on it I bought it new and it’s been plugged to a surge protector but unused…when to use it the other day and no power…I’ve replaced the fuse it was blown and the plate covering the power supply has black soot on it…I have no meters or any equipment to check with. What do you recommend? Can you point me to a new power supply? I haven’t been able to locate one!

    Do you have the schematic for the power supply board, the one that I found online doesn't match the PCB that I have, the DVD Recorder that I have is the ES30V and the P/S board is the same one that you have in your video. i checked and there is about 120VDC out of the bridge rectifier, I checked most of the components in circuit and they seem to be ok , I am not sure about the MR1521 and the FCH1060A Barrier Diode . My recorder has the same problem that yours had, No power up,

      Sorry I don't, but the switching regulator I mentioned is probably a common problem.

    Auto video head cleaner removed?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been to long for me to remember, but sometimes I do remove them if they appear to be decaying..Once they begin to decay they can do more harm than good.

      Thanks for the answer. I have a Panasonic NV-FS200 and I'm thinking whether to remove the video head cleaner or leave it all the same, although the video head cleaner is in excellent condition.

      @@_Andrey_ I've often wondered if those automatic head cleaners even work, If it was my own VCR I'd probably remove it. but if it's in good shape it's not likely to be a problem leaving it on.
