Ok, so my sob story is that I seem to have lost a drive on my file server :( I'm in the process of moving stuff to other machines coz you know, lightning DOES strike twice! Anyhow, in the course of moving files around, I cam across an old VM that I used to generate OpenVPN keys for some clients way back at the beginning of the pandemic and had forgotten all about it. But the monkey brain said, "You need to put this somewhere becoz ONE DAY it's going to come back and bite you in the arse". Your video was EXACTLY what I needed at EXACTLY the right time and got to EXACTLY the right point without all the self aggrandisement that's way too common wit these kind of videos. So, thank you for the content and thank you again for your concise delivery.
Yeah it is not worth tempting lightning! Thank you for your story. I really enjoy knowing I was able to be helpful with my hobbies! There are plenty of people i enjoy watching to learn about programs and systems, but for getting something up and running I want to know what to do. Learning about it can be done when i have it up and running to play with it. And thank you for teaching me about two words i had not heard much of before: brevity and aggrandisement. Always happy to learn something new!
@@Divgitally Ah well, if it's stories you like, let me tell you the VM that I was recovering, contained a TurnkeyLinux OpenVPN appliance (I noticed you prefer Bitnami). But unexpectedly, it also contained a working installation of Odoo v11.0 and Asterisk. I was really over-achieving back in May 2020, for whatever reason. I _do_ remember that I set up a Guacamole server for remote access and an AWS system running Odoo as well. So, that VM must have been some kind of test run for the eventual solution. I was NOT able to steer the client towards a Proxmox solution sadly. Ah, the key in the gate, the ladies are home, finally. Now, I can get some dinner :) Take care, and thanks again!
@@partypooper2591 Thank you too! I'm happy the video was helpful to you! To be honest, Bitnami was the first thing i learned about so it is the first thing i think about. Would be interesting to see what was inside the OVF file. You should be able to open it with a text editor or at least visual studio code or similar. Might be something in there that Proxmox disagrees with.
@@Divgitally Thanks for responding to my message. I examined the XML/OVF file but nothing stood out as inappropriate. Some OVFs import perfectly, no luck with OVAs nor vmdks though.

Hello! That is no problem! You will just have to "create" the VM first. By that i mean you do everything you need to create a VM in Proxmox, but you dont include a harddrive for that VM. Then you convert and import the disk image into that VM.
That is actually pretty annoying. I want to make a video on it one day. So far, I have been lazy and just set up a Proxmox backup server and added it to both nodes. Back up the VM, then restore it on the other node. It can easily be done when they are clustered, but don't do that unless you actually plan on having them in a cluster.
@@vklab24 Apologies, but i don't remember and i am currently not running any clusters. Hello! I'm not sure what it causes that, but there might be something wrong with VM options. I would start by looking at boot order making sure it points to the correct hard drive. If that does not help, you can come over to the Discord server i have linked in the description. It's not very lively, but its a bit more easy for me to help if i can see some screenshots.
Hello! There is no specific reason for the VM ID, and the only reason for the two VM's is to show the difference in importing them. I thought about actually using the VM's after they were set up but cut that away.
