    5:11 "We got ghettos too and they orange Juice concentrated" reference to 2Pac's movie: Juice (The film touches on the lives of four black youths growing up in Harlem, following their day-to-day activities, their struggles with police harassment, rival neighborhood gangs and their families), but in Africa its 10 times worse.
    -Just a honorable mention

    "Long walk accomplishments"you could have missed that BAR. Stogie T is from South Africa and our first black elected democratic president "Nelson Mandela"wrote a book a book called "Long Walk to Freedom"

    • @marekatebakang7669
      @marekatebakang7669 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But if we put into Morden day references it that "long walk to freedom" or it is still long walk of accomplishments as no one has freedom without economical imancipation, hence I would say he has to say accomplishments as those who have done the time freedom have accomplishments and no freedom for those who are still poor

    Nigeria's Fela was aka the black president. He is the one that push afro beats decades ago and he an icon including fashion too.
    The delta in Nigeria is full of oil and is not benefiting the people of Nigeria but politicians are fighting over oil rights.

  • @thabotoyi5897
    @thabotoyi5897 5 ปีที่แล้ว +64

    There's a couple of things you missed there.
    "I'm from the continent of poverty and long walk accomplishments" is the state South Africa was in during Apartheid and the subsequent book that Nelson Mandela wrote - Long walk to freedom.
    " The opulent meet the poor -
    Cleaning their offices" - refferences the inequality in SA, as it was ranked on of the most unequal Societies in the world.
    By the way, Elon Musk is South African Born, that's why he made the refference to him.
    "I say South Africa, you think Trevor;
    I think Nelson - it's half a parent you getting mixed messages" - Obviously referes to Trevor Noah and his Biratial parents but I this bar he refers to his upbringing, Trevor's father is Swiss-German and his mother is Black, at the time of his birth it was illegal for that in SA. That's where the mixed messages come in, hence Trevor's book - Born a Crime
    " I say Nigeria, you think Fela-
    I think Delta it's blurry as impressionist!" - referes to the Niger Delta. An area South of Nigeria that is wealthy in crude oil but rotten in the politics and the subsequent bribery which has left the area with one of the worst environmental pollution in world that is still in addressed.
    There was an important mention that I don't think most people picked up on:
    "Reading Langston Hughes &
    Hajj - Malik Shabbazz and them shit" - Langston Hughes is a black
    American Author and activist. Same is Malik Shabbazz, he mostly known as Melcom X.

    I say Nigeria and you think Fela, I think Delta, its past and present blurry as an impressionist's Sway! Stogie T is a genius! He should be a given a Ph.D. in English and Art History for this line! I swear I could write a PH.D. on the complexity of this line. If you think I am about bull check out the Impressionist art movement, their style of painting which often resulted in blurry portrayals of natural scenes aka landscapes, say for example a delta. The impressionists were known for their disavowal of tradition and nonconformity hence the "you think of Fela and I think of the Niger Delta", Fela being the common thing to associate with Nigeria and finally the play on Sway, Sway the Dj and Sway as in Albert Swayhoover the Impressionist artist. Stogie is a genius!!! Genius level writing! Copied.

      Also because the album is called Honey and Pain, don't just think about the sweetness (dance, beats, fun etc) associated with the talented Fela Kuti but also realise the pain of the people's of Delta State - living in poverty whilst their State produces Nigeria's oil and therefore wealth.

    "'long walk accomplishments" reference to Nelson Mandela's long walk to freedom.

  • @wisdomntshalintshali3296
    @wisdomntshalintshali3296 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually the " Long walk accomplishments" line is in ref to Nelson Mandela's autobiography "The Long Walk to freedom" which was turned into a movie adaptation staring Idris Elba. " We push rocket ships like Ellon Mask:" That's an honorable mention referring to the fact that Ellon grew up in South Africa, He's saying wherever South African's are they set records and break them. Charlize Theron, Arnold Vosloo, Trevor Noah are all entertainers we are proud of for breaking beyond people's expectations. Another bar I noted was " I put your certified Hyenas into elephant graves. He means he's the Lion King straight from Africa. He don't need to be a hyena for he puts hyenas in their place which is the elephant graveyard. Its a lion king reference.

    • @wisdomntshalintshali3296
      @wisdomntshalintshali3296 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      .then he said "charge the whip but still stuck on this sh*t cause we ain't got a pot to piss in. Ellon Mask ref again: electric cars. He mean we still charging for the future but are still stuck in the past or hitting limitations because of unequal distribution of wealth, an aftermath of apartheid.
      "You said God forgives as you give the church half your sh*t. I'm bugging but I still can't tell a pastor from a pimp." There is no system of oppression that succeeds without using religion and the same was in South Africa. He started with the Catholic Church because conspiracy has it that they been roped in in almost every mass murder segregatory movement there has been in world history. He's saying pastors were there ones pimping the blacks to the whites by controlling blacks using religion". Then off course there's the new wave of water prophets who ride expensive cars and wear pimped out clothes at the expense of the congregation.

    A MAJOR SHOUT OUT to you for recognising SA HIP HOP and mostly to the dudes that make it. Stogie T is in my opinion a GENERAL in the forefront on what bridges our local HIP HOP to the rest of the world, without disregarding his counterparts of cause! Been following dude since early 2000s as TUMI from TUMI AND THE VOLUME, a local band made up of guys from the greater Southern Africa perhaps beyond. Without saying a whole lot more, here's a track from about 6 years ago featured on by ZEUS with AKA th-cam.com/video/VguQk1HbA0M/w-d-xo.html. Please REACT if you like? I hope you do though, it's worth it.
