i brought a tent, although it is hard to find land not owned by someone, so you do have to ask to be polite, even in the mountains because of the shepherds. I was living and working in georgia, i couldn't afford guesthouses, but they are cheap about 20-40 lari. A lot of people did that for the 4 day trek from svaneti to ushguli, i trekked with all my gear. I worked in Mestia, so I had accommodation there. have fun!

I did this walk in July, it was very hot....
I spent a month in march/april for winter and then 3 months in july, aug, sept working and holidaying.
