People complaining about Kobe not passing the ball. The man was on fire. I can almost guarantee that Phil, in the huddle, was telling the team to get Kobe the ball. You run with something while it's hot.
MJ wasn't good he was just fun to watch that's why MJ only scored 69 in one game really MJ is just overrated look at magic or dr j Bernard king those r ball playeds
OH MY GOD EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE DEFENSE!!! Kobe was making crazy threes and pull up jumpers with hands in his face. He was in a zone and nobody could've stopped him that night. Greatest NBA performance of all-time.
nash yang Kobe's living his physically physically and mentality, taking care of his two daughters and his wife from high school! This year will be his last year, I'll miss his smiling face.
OMG......unbelievable... I dont understand why anyone thinks kobe is trash, he scored *81 points and his shooting was at 60% from the field* .... THAT IS *A.M.A.Z.I.N.G*
No doubt, his greatest performance of his entire career and the second greatest performance in NBA history, this will be remembered as his top all time performances after he retires.
What's the first greatest? The 100? I think MJ's 69 was more impressive than Kobes. MJ had 18 reb, 6 ast and 4 stl to go along with it. Kobe had no other stats.
Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are the kings of NBA history. Every time I play ball with me team I look up to these guys that one day I could be just like them.
Kobe is a legend. the whole "ball hog" story is an internet rumor. Considering shaq played with kobe and they won 3 championships its virtually impossible to say he "didnt pass" the ball. all shaq did was dunk and most of these came from passes from guess who?kobe. When he won the championship with pau who was passing pau the ball all those times? Kobe's a passers, always been. Someone got jealous kobes game was complete, they couldnt find a weakness in his game so they made one up and said "he doesnt pass". Thats how that rumor got started. Jordan took more shots than his team mates and no one says "jordan was a ball hog". Its called taking over the game. Its exactly what kobe did here in his 81 point game.
I don't even really follow the NBA anymore, and I'm not sure if Kobe Bryant is even a likeable guy or a scuzz...that having been said, this was one of the greatest one-man exhibitions in sports history and you have to give the man his due. There aren't too many sports contests/games I would want to be in a first-row seat for outside of this one. Talk about getting your money's worth when you went to THIS game, wow! Well done, Mr. Bryant, well done!
This is *the* greatest scoring performance ever. Comparing this to Wilt's is blasphemy. Wilt had the physical presence which was unmatched at the time, allowing him to do whatever he wants. Not to mention there were only 8 teams he had to face, which really has nothing to do with his 100 point game. But the distinction is clear. Kobe is 6'6, has no physical advantage over anyone at his position. He can't just go under the basket and lay it up or dunk it. It s sad how overlooked this performance was. This is one of the most epic performances in sports history.
Jonny van Essen Exactly, players like Jordan, Bird, Iverson, McGrady, Carter, Pierce and now Lebron, Wade, Melo, Durant and Curry play lottery teams all the time and don't drop 81. It just doesn't happen. This performance was unreal, regardless of who it was against. (GO CELTICS)
lebron vs kobe through my perspective (for those who compare them) short game- kobe mid range- kobe 3-pointer- kobe teammate- lebron (slight edge) slasher- lebron defender- lebron rebounding- lebron leadership- kobe iso- kobe passer lebron I'd say they are both great players but when it comes to offensive ability it's kobe all day.
Kobe better on offense?? maybe he got more skills, ''clutch'', footwoork than LeBron but at the end of the day: LeBron averaging career; 27.5 points per game with FG .497% Kobe ; 25.5 points per game with FG .454% How ironic that Kobe can score 81 points in a game and won just 2 times scoring titles in 17 seasons!!!
one thing you don't take into account is that Kobe has 18 years under his belt and Lebron has 11 years. So for my example stats don't really matter it's all opinion.
No. Kobe was never robbed of an MVP. Kobe was never an MVP. In fact, they had to gift him KG's MVP in 08 so that him an the media wouldn't be so embarrassed.
Whether you like him or not, or you think Lebron or someone else is better... you can't deny that 81 points is an insane number in today's game and only something a gifted player would be able to do. Also even if the Raptors are playing shitty D, it's impressive.
I was just wondering why theyre comparing modern players to wilt. I was playing nba 2k and it said that he had almost 60 fgs a game compared to our 20 per game. Its a completely different era
Yea. You're 100% right. Taking 60+ shots a game and scoring 90 or 100 points is definitely impressive.. Wilts 100 point game he was 36 of 63 from the field. Kobe's 81 point game he was 28 for 46 from the field. Kobe shot a FAR higher percentage, took 17 LESS shots, and still only scored 19 points less than Wilt did. Kobe had a FAR more efficient and you could easily argue a BETTER game than Wilt and his 100. Had Kobe taken 17 more shots, a couple 3's mixed in, even going 9 for 17 on those shots a few 3's is like 22 more points pushing his total to 103 points if he would have been as big of a ball hog as Wilt was in his 100 point game. But people see 81 from Kobe and say it just proves he was/is a ball hog and takes too many shots and its the only reason he scored 81. But people marvel over Wilt Chamberlain and say it was the best performance ever. The Saber-metrics of it all would say Kobe played a better and more efficient game; and I would have to agree.
Brandon Brown also in Wilts era half of the players where white guys who were in about the same shape as your drunk uncle shooting hoops in the driveway...
Tim Hooper I would also say Wilt was like an adult dunking on children and smacking the ball away like you do to your kid brother. Kobe was playing against bosh and other decent folk.
DoU EvenLift well not trying in relation to how he did in the second half. he didnt take near as many shots or take over like he did in the second half. if he had done what he did in the 2nd half in the 1st he wouldve made a 100 easy...dude was unstoppable that night
steven4570 1. He scored 26 in the first half, that's a great half, scoring 26 in a game is good much less in half that. He was obviously trying and trying hard at that, he just never got into the scoring groove he did later on in the game. Not to mention when he caught fire in the 3rd the Lakers just kept feeding him the ball basically every trip down making it easier for him to score more. 2. He scored 55 in the 2nd, the amount of energy it takes to put up 55 in one half is virtually impossible to duplicate, even if he would've went crazy in the first he wouldn't have had enough energy to drop 55 in the second. Even if he woulda put up 44 in the 1st & 55 in the second(which is damn near impossible) he still wouldn't have got it. Scoring that much is tiring you know, in theory what you're saying makes sense but not in reality. And even if he would've dropped 100 or more, he wouldn't have done it easily or shattered the record, he woulda dropped like 102 MAX
You're right. It seemed impossible to hurdle but if one puts his heart on it, the unattainable becomes a reality. You can see the passion and love he has for the game and the team.
Lmao at the kobe haters on here. Yall wouldnt put up 20 against middle schoolers. Hate him or love him he is still in the NBA record books while yall still hatin from behind the grill at burger king.
ball hog huh ? his team is down by 18 , he make them get able to won that game with his 81 points thats what u called carrying the team . Atleast show some respect boy
Unlike MJ and Bron, Kobe never had a championship level team around him during his prime years (2004-2007). But if he didn't have Kwame Brown and Smush Parker, this game probably wouldn't have happened.
Mike ThaGamer I agree that MJ made the guys around him better, but lets not downplay Pippen. Especially in that first 3 peat. Jordan led the way, but Pippen was excellent and they had championship level role play from guys like Horace Grant.
Mike ThaGamer lets not downplay craig hodges, bj armstrong or john paxon or steve kerr. pure shooters. lets not down play horace grant or dennis rodman(champion before the bulls with detroit) best rebounder in the game at that time. lets not downplay ron harper...really didnt have a championship team...really...scottie pip, one of the 50 greatest players...did kobe have one of the 50 greatest players of all time on his team when he won in 2009-10 back to back...no
how am i delusional...i said mike had a great team. but more importantly what these teams have in common is the elements to win it all in a way that worked for that particular team with those players. but none of those players on kobes team are 50greatest. isnt that what i said...calm yourself. also mike played with pretty much a championship caliber team most of his prime and on (in chicago) by 89 they pretty much had all of the pieces that they needed. kobe had good runs with teams but kept rebuilding. like kobe said, hes jealous of tim duncan that spurs kept their team together.
im not making comparisons im saying mike pretty much had a championship team around him whereas kobe went through phases of ups and downs. shaq was on his way down and kobe on his way up, shaq didnt work as hard as kobe so whatever i dont care about the shaq scenario or if kobe got him traded or not, and if you really believe KOBE got shaq traded than u must be a big kobe fan, or you think jerry bus is an idiot, cuz if kobe alone got him traded, then how good is kobe, how powerful is kobe...you said it not me. kobe earned those last 2 rings and he can be selfish, i dont care i just appreciate his skill on the floor, i dont care about his personal characteristics. stop hating a guy you never met
swayjacob777 I'm a Nash fan but I still think Kobe should have won mvp over him. Kobe was the most valuable player no doubt. No one that year except him could have carried that Lakers team to the playoffs
If you noticed the Raptors were up 15-20pts the entire 1st hf. There was no real reason to Double D'up on Kobe. He just got his pts so smoothly in the flow of the gm that he basically sniped the Raptors single-handedly and won that gm.
There is a behind story on that. Kobe wasnt really shooting 3s that well on previous games. Raptors' coach told his players to let him shoot 3s but try not to give Kobe space on his 2pointer jump shots. They werent guarding him hard on 3s on purpose.
It was the Raptors coach's fault that Kobe scored 81. In an interview with Jalen Rose, He said that he told Sam Mitchell that they have to do something and double team Kobe. But Sam insisted on playing Kobe one on one. And his decision resulted as the 2nd highest scoring in the NBA.
watch that game in boston with mike...no one and i mean NO ONE was athletically even able to compete in the same realm as mike on that boston team. kobe was playing against guys his size or taller who were able to keep up with him athletically. kobe did that on pure skill. not saying mike didnt but look at some of his 60 plus games...who is guarding him. mike usually had either a strength advantage, a height advantage or a speed advantage on most of the players guarding him. who did mike have to shoot over. kobe is literally shooting with a hand drapped in his face on multiple occasions and nothing but BOTTOM. jordans best was 69 against mark price and craig elo and it was done in overtime. gtf outta here. when it comes to getting hot kobe is second to none. and jordan never got 62 in 3quarters. even phil himself said kobe had to make harder shots than mike
You must've lost your got damn mind if you think CP3 is better than Curry. That statement would be wrong in any universe! Get tf outta here with that shit.
Kobe♥ He is just an unbelievable player. Most versityle shots in every basketball league better than anyone else on this planet before and after. His playing style is unique UUNIQQUEEE!!!!! Legend. period.
Die hard Spurs fan here...I'll never forget it age 19 coming back from school seeing the score on my nba tv...."wtf is this b.s.? Oh that's an error how embarrassing they got that wrong no one can't score that much" keep in mind in those day's most teams averaged 85 points a game at best....i was actually going call my cable company to see if my channel was glitching or something I'm serious until I saw the highlights and than the full game stuck on repeat all that day....that's when i went from hating kobes guts to respecting the hell out of him. NO ONE had ever seen anything like that since jordan maybe? Even though 69 was his best or my personal goat the admiral David Robinson with 71 in '94 but this....was different Kobe hit 81 mostly from outside shots tons of them...i remember not long after this game my Spurs destroyed a young hornets team 120-68 or something rediclous like that...and sean elliot and Bill land the local announcers pointed out the fact Kobe outscored that entire hornets team with his 81 points all by himself...lol...absolutely incredible.
I remember the day I saw the stat line for this game. I was brushing my teeth, getting ready for work. I saw it and assumed 81 was a misprint. When I found out he really dropped 81 and not 18 I was was at a lost of words. I couldn't believe it lol.
Why do ppl come here and hate? This video was made to remember this great game and watch how history was made that day. You're supposed to watch this and shut up. Aren't you guys basketball lovers? Enjoy this, I'm not exactly sure when something like this will happen again...
And I am a bulls fan, but not even Michael Jordan could rival Kobe as far as shooting the basketball, Kobe is the GOAT in that regard. He is the only Laker to win 1+ rings without another HOF (has 2 without another HOF). Top 5 player all-time, arguably greatest Laker of all time.
If only he played all 4 qtrs this day and took more shots in the first half. he could've scored 100+ easily...but this will always be the greatest single performance in lakers history and one of the greatest in NBA history!!(if not the greatest) #laker pride!!
i think this is the performance that really caught the attention of jordan (jordan's career statistics have always been greater-including field goal attempts mind you). remember a few years later mj made a statement and said he would score 100 in today's league?
This is an example of leadership, if the lakers didn't have him this night they would have lost by 20+ he can single-handedly carry a team. Yes I am a heat fan but I call Kobe the greatest of all time
Not a Kobe fan, but as an NBA fan, I have to tip my cap. In my opinion, this performance was greater than Wilt's because of Kobe's position and because the level of competition has greatly improved since Wilt's day.
This is why I regret not watching basketball until 2011. I've missed such great basketball, all because I didn't try to understand the game until I was 14
I made a rough count and 52 points out of kobe's 81 were from outside shots and the free throws he drew from shots outside the paint. That is one of the things that made this game so special. Nothing kobe did was once in a lifetime, 46 FGA wasn't his most, 61 FG% wasn't his best, 7/13 from 3pt wasn't rare, 18/20 from the FT line wasn't special. But for Wilt, 28/32 from the FT line was once in a lifetime and probably why 78 in 3OT was his next best. Kobe could do this or better more than once.
People complaining about Kobe not passing the ball. The man was on fire. I can almost guarantee that Phil, in the huddle, was telling the team to get Kobe the ball. You run with something while it's hot.
KOBE IS THE GREATEST PLAYER TO PLAY THE GAME. Where all my laker fans at?
Kobe is defenitly top 10
MJ then Kobe you can't argue with the stuff MJ was able to do consistently
MJ wasn't good he was just fun to watch that's why MJ only scored 69 in one game really MJ is just overrated look at magic or dr j Bernard king those r ball playeds
Kobe had a better jump shot than MJ but that is it MJ had everything else over kobe
Kobe was is and was in top 5 best player
OH MY GOD EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE DEFENSE!!! Kobe was making crazy threes and pull up jumpers with hands in his face. He was in a zone and nobody could've stopped him that night. Greatest NBA performance of all-time.
He's the best player in the NBA, it's an honor to have him on the Lakers!
Yes , it's luck for LA fans have met Kobe in LA in this century.
nash yang Kobe's living his physically physically and mentality, taking care of his two daughters and his wife from high school! This year will be his last year, I'll miss his smiling face.
OMG......unbelievable... I dont understand why anyone thinks kobe is trash, he scored *81 points and his shooting was at 60% from the field* .... THAT IS *A.M.A.Z.I.N.G*
I'm always in awe everytime I watch this. Though I'm always gonna be MJ's fan, I have to give respect to what Kobe's accomplishments in the game.
good job legend nba

vroomvroom Why? I can't watch both?

Most impressive thing I've seen on a basketball court...and I'm a Celtics fan.
***** jordan played just as shitty teams and didnt get 81 points. and trust me he tried.
Jonny van Essen
Exactly, players like Jordan, Bird, Iverson, McGrady, Carter, Pierce and now Lebron, Wade, Melo, Durant and Curry play lottery teams all the time and don't drop 81. It just doesn't happen. This performance was unreal, regardless of who it was against. (GO CELTICS)
***** I'm sorry, so your argument is that he plays hard all the time, and that's a bad thing.
He has restored my love for this game....I'm ready for the new season!!!
Don't get how some people can say Paul Gasol will not be a hall of famer. A lot of guys have been admitted for less than what Pau has.
Not a Kobe fan, but this was incredible...
Kobe will always be my favorite player and I will be a laker fan for life and will never move from LA. Seat coast son.
omg
stg!
Sub! :D
Sub the gamer
I watch this video over and over again but still hard to believe that. Amazing!!
How many 3's did he hit this game?
7 of 13
Davide Beretta Thank you
i think they are magnets inside the rim when kobe has the ball
lebron vs kobe through my perspective (for those who compare them)
short game- kobe
mid range- kobe
3-pointer- kobe
teammate- lebron (slight edge)
slasher- lebron
defender- lebron
rebounding- lebron
leadership- kobe
iso- kobe
passer lebron
I'd say they are both great players but when it comes to offensive ability it's kobe all day.
Whoa kobe is one of the best defenders ever
like I said my opinion man. When all is said and done it will be a fact that either one or the other was better.
Kobe better on offense?? maybe he got more skills, ''clutch'', footwoork than LeBron but at the end of the day:
LeBron averaging career; 27.5 points per game with FG .497%
Kobe ; 25.5 points per game with FG .454%
How ironic that Kobe can score 81 points in a game and won just 2 times scoring titles in 17 seasons!!!
one thing you don't take into account is that Kobe has 18 years under his belt and Lebron has 11 years. So for my example stats don't really matter it's all opinion.
Jason Wahlberg and the first and second year of kobe career is on the bench . less than 10 points per game you know
June 2024. We miss you Mamba 🖤🐍
he is a beast
thats true wilt made the most points in one game and had a average of 50 point per game for 1 whole season. However im a fan of julius erving
Plus wilt played when 6'9 was big and he was 7'2
ikr
Kobe was robbed the mvp that year
No. Kobe was never robbed of an MVP. Kobe was never an MVP. In fact, they had to gift him KG's MVP in 08 so that him an the media wouldn't be so embarrassed.
EPIC!!! Just amazing Kobe is gonna be one of the tip 5 players to ever play in the NBA

Yoni123 LMAO! and so spot on lol
Tim Hooper I would also say Wilt was like an adult dunking on children and smacking the ball away like you do to your kid brother. Kobe was playing against bosh and other decent folk.
i miss this dude 😢
Just think how much he could of got if he played the 4th quarter in Dallas smh Kobe The God!!
Can't believe steve nash won mvp over kobe that year. I know that he was deserving of it, but not more than kobe?!? SMH
The announcer....KOBEEEEEEE...!!😊
Kobe Bryant is slightly better than Lebron James when he was young. Sorry Lebron James' fans
It's ok :(
Antonio Burnett You rock
Slightly better? 😂 Premadona LeBron couldn't and will never come close to the greatness of Kobe
@@svlotoyIts been 10 years... don't think he's coming back to watch you deep throat kobe lmao 😂😂😂
Kobe , definitely untouchable
The legendary day Kwame brown and Kobe Bryant combined for 84 points
Kwame brown pure beast with the 3 points
Lmao
Kobe Bryant mvp season!
I think If he had actually tried in the 1st half kobe wouldve shattered wilts record.
He scored 26 points in the first half.... In what world is a 26 point half "not actually trying"?

MJ, Kobe, Bird, Johnson, Kareem, chamberlain, and miller. In that order.
Jordan Scott you mean magic johnson? the hiv guy? hahaha
Orang Africano yeah magic johnson. one of the greatest athletes to ever play
Reggie miller?
Ankushmeet Nijjar yes Reggie Miller ! why you asking ?
You're right. It seemed impossible to hurdle but if one puts his heart on it, the unattainable becomes a reality. You can see the passion and love he has for the game and the team.
he could've gotten 100 if he tried in the first half
i'm three minutes in and none of his shots have touched the rim yet...
This video never gets old
Lmao at the kobe haters on here. Yall wouldnt put up 20 against middle schoolers. Hate him or love him he is still in the NBA record books while yall still hatin from behind the grill at burger king.
Kobe has the worst field goal percentage among the top 15 career NBA scorers.
ball hog huh ? his team is down by 18 , he make them get able to won that game with his 81 points thats what u called carrying the team . Atleast show some respect boy
atleast show some respect boy. foreals haha

doesnt take anything away from kobe tho. and greg popovich can kiss my ass. what about david stern stopping that chris paul deal...
Awesome Kobe..MVP
Ewww EVERYONE knew kobe deserved to win the MVP that season but.... Kobe was robbed no doubt, should've hav 3 MVPs next to his name
Its MVP not best player in the league award.
swayjacob777
I'm a Nash fan but I still think Kobe should have won mvp over him. Kobe was the most valuable player no doubt. No one that year except him could have carried that Lakers team to the playoffs
Haha Bosh the dinosaur in another historic moment watching his opponent drop 81 on his team!! Hahahaha
Ogni giorno vedo questa partita di una LEGGENDA del basket Kobe Forever in mio Heart❤❤❤❤
Kobe y wayyyy better then Jordan no doubt about it he just a beast
Thats a joke.
Josh Wirick is not a joke and Kobe became all time scoring leader and defeating Jordan
but he couldn't beat jordan in a 1on1 :o
7homes Have you seen them play 1 on 1 dumbass??
Macky Salinas yes why old times ? like he was 19, why am i a dumbass now ? dumbass
LeBron couldn't even dream of doin this
he probably could get 70+, but he prefers to help his teammates.
If you noticed the Raptors were up 15-20pts the entire 1st hf. There was no real reason to Double D'up on Kobe. He just got his pts so smoothly in the flow of the gm that he basically sniped the Raptors single-handedly and won that gm.
I will take 63 points by jordan in the playoff vs Boston then this Raptors team . It's a shame no one is playing defense in the raptor team
But the lakers were down a lot of points and kobe led them the whole way back.
There is a behind story on that. Kobe wasnt really shooting 3s that well on previous games. Raptors' coach told his players to let him shoot 3s but try not to give Kobe space on his 2pointer jump shots. They werent guarding him hard on 3s on purpose.
adfadsfas No he didnt.
CP3 is better than Curry
hell no
Umm No. I love watching CP3 but Steph is on a whole other level and still getting better.
WhyuHateOnTheBest Carl Lol, So incorrect. 7th, 4th, and 5th
livetoroblox hes first in three pointers
You must've lost your got damn mind if you think CP3 is better than Curry. That statement would be wrong in any universe! Get tf outta here with that shit.
Kobe♥
He is just an unbelievable player.
Most versityle shots in every basketball league better than anyone else on this planet before and after.
His playing style is unique UUNIQQUEEE!!!!!
Legend.
period.
They should divide the most scoring records between Modern NBA period and Old NBA period. could be after 1990 and before.
so kobe is the best and he will always be the best
this never gets old
Greatest individual performance ever!
Best Birthday present ever, well so far. Thank Kobe, Godspeed. 🙏🏽💙
Enjoy this, I'm not exactly sure when something like this will happen again...
really great videos and the player Kobe performed awesome in his time and zone , It's amazing !
Jordan and Kobe tied for number 1 as the greatest in my book.
Kobe is the best thing that ever happened in the NBA. He changed the game of basketball
God damn 81 points...Kobe is truly a beast!
As soon as Kobe gets #6 he'll retire and will forever be immortalized as top 2 greatest players ever!!
One of the greatest too ever play the game!
R.I.P. 💪🏾💪🏾😤
Her izlediğimde gözüm doluyor. Gerçekten olağanüstü bir performans.
saw this game live at home.. amazing..
actually i recorded every game from that year on dvd
I agree...outscoring a team at that point in the game is just insane...
One of my most favorite nights.
12:55 there is something about this shot, maybe elegance, I don't know
@Timmy, actually the absence of the shot clock worked against Wilt... since the other team was always trying to hold the ball during his 100-pt game.
The feeling of being on the whole game has to be amazing.
He's amazing, he's a legend
The best ever it will never be another K.O.B.E
he is a legend
Kobe was absolutely out of control scoring that night!
i get teary eyed watching this shit. vintage kobe. vino. the comeback
KOBE IS THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER !!!
Miss come kobe come back baby. James was happy as hell when kobe went down. The closest we wil ever see to MJ even mj said it himself
If only he played all 4 qtrs this day and took more shots in the first half. he could've scored 100+ easily...but this will always be the greatest single performance in lakers history and one of the greatest in NBA history!!(if not the greatest) #laker pride!!
I have witnessed greatness !
Statistics of a whole good European team...Nice Kobe!!!!Greetings from Greece!!!!!!!
Kobe will Always be the best
i think this is the performance that really caught the attention of jordan (jordan's career statistics have always been greater-including field goal attempts mind you). remember a few years later mj made a statement and said he would score 100 in today's league?
8 Years of this historic game. #8 Score 81 Pts. Unbelievable!!
One of the greatest ever
This is an example of leadership, if the lakers didn't have him this night they would have lost by 20+ he can single-handedly carry a team. Yes I am a heat fan but I call Kobe the greatest of all time
what a bandwagoner
yup just like he carried them to a 1st round elimination
The greatest of all time 🕊
8 years... Still shocked!
This is AMAZING!
