  • On the latest episode of The Solid Verbal college football podcast, we welcome on StateCollege.com's Ben Jones to talk James Franklin's Penn State program. Following repeated losses to Jim Harbaugh's Michigan and Ryan Day's Ohio State, the question of Penn State breaking through persists, so we talk about QB Drew Allar's development, especially in new OC Andy Kotelnicki's new offense, Abdul Carter's move to the edge, Penn State's recruiting scope, what Dan Lanning's Oregon and Lincoln Riley's USC bring to Penn State's Big Ten equation, Penn State benefiting from the College Football Playoff moving to 12 teams, a concerning (or not!) wide receiver exodus this offseason, and more!

It’s quite hilarious that Dan thinks the Big Ten might not be ready for the PAC offenses. Gotta get behind my Penn State guy and 100% agree that they’ve never had to play against good to great defenses before. Oregon is the only team ready for the B1G. The rest have a lot of catching up to do Dan.

D: That's reasonable, there should be some give and take in both directions, I just know Penn State has had some *truly* bad Big Ten offenses on recent schedules before looking unprepared (albeit with a couple opt outs) for more legit playmakers against Ole Miss. Those four schools regularly churn out good to great offenses playing in and out of conference, with UCLA, Oregon, and Washington regularly looking at least more competent and complete than a majority of the Big Ten. Won't be many Brendan Sorsby, Gavin Wimsatt, Katin Houser, Ben Bryant, Deacon Hill, Luke Altmyer types starting for those teams. Either way, will be fun to find out!

I remember everyone saying the same line about Pac 12 offenses and Big Ten teams before the National Championship game. "Michigan hasn't faced an offense that's anything like Washington and Penix!". We all know how that turned out. Now we're hearing the same things all over again.

So what if it's not OSU or M - that they lose to ? -- A better team - like Ole Miss - is just as much a loss ? -- Like Arkansas Georgia & even Kentucky !!! -- Landing at about 10 or so - seems to be - it ? > Not sure really - if - they are 'that' good some seasons given bowl results ? 🤔

Everyone forgets the Covid year probably would’ve been a great year, had the plandemic happened which lead to Micah Parsons sitting out. Then people forget Journey Brown’s heart issue that cause him to retire from football. Had those things not happened, we probably could’ve won the Big10 that year.

Defeating a Bieniemy (UCLA) and Riley (USC) run offense will not be a picnic. Neither will be facing a Belichick defense (Washington). With Ohio St and Wiscy sandwiched in between. PSU will have to put up points and the depth isn't there to overcome injuries.

If the Pac 12 teams were so great, why didn't they keep the conference going, instead of coming to a real conference 🤔? Little orphans is going to be Oregon, USC, UCLA and Washington!!!
