Hey Jeff, I am an airline pilot who regularly flies out of Honolulu. I have a few details for you that you might appreciate. You seem to value detail and authenticity, especially in your aviation videos. First, 4 Right is never used by airliners for departure. I mean never. It's used for arrivals only. The reason for this: noise abatement over the city of Honolulu prohibits a turnout after takeoff to the right and mountainous terrain immediately north of the airport prevents a climbout straight ahead or a turnout to the left. Also, 4 Left is never used for any aircraft heavier than a medium-weight turboprop because it's too short for jet aircraft operations. When the wind is from the east or northeast, as it usually is on Oahu, 8 Right, we call it the "Reef Runway", is the standard departure runway and 8 Left is used for arrivals and occasionally for departures of narrow body airliners. Additionally, there are no seagulls in Hawaii.
Yes, I've been waiting for this, great video Jeff! I love Tower 3d, and you're the reason I got it! I'm born and raised in Honolulu, and I visited the HNL Tower on a special field trip with a ATC controller that I met, their operation consists of 8L - Most Aircraft Arrivals from Hawaiian 717's to the big planes, but you can also use it as departure for the Hawaiian 717's or 737's if you can squeeze on in. 4L- Small GA/prop plane departures only 4R - Arrival Runway - GA/Prop aircraft to 777, but you can land up to a A380 there also, the ANA flights that used to come. 8R - Departure Runway for all Planes, you may use this runway for aircraft landings only in the mornings, late nights, or special inbound flights, but 8R is our main departure runway 4R & 8R are most suitable for emergency landings/situations This just a basic operations, there are more. You can use this as a reference if you do another HNL tower episode! But once runway operations switch to the other runways it is more complicated lol!
As a person that lives in Honolulu here’s how it actually is most times. 8L: Mostly landings and some departures. 8R: Always larger planes departing. 4R: Always landings but takeoffs for smaller planes. 4L: Only small planes from what I’ve seen.
I was about to say when he sent UPS on 4R for Take off, If i was still living in Salt Lake I would have called tower and ripped them a new one hahahha. If fact i hated when they take off from 22L and R when i was sleeping smh lmao
@@chiefcaptaincole9889 yah i miss it over there. im in pearl city now. so when i gotta fly out i have to fight traffic and if i fly back home in the afternoon i gotta fight traffic FML hahaha
Great video, Jeff. At 7:30 the HAL19 flight that you deleted off of 4R only stopped because you gave it a "taxi to terminal" order for which it had a valid route plan, but then overrode it with a "follow company" order which it couldn't process, so the flight stayed on the runway awaiting orders. If you'd re-issued the "taxi to terminal" instruction, you'd have been good. Happy controlling!
Might I suggest using LAHSOps for the 4R arrivals? That would make your 8L Departure a lot quicker and efficient! Just use this as an example: "HAL452 Runway 4R cleared to land, HOLD SHORT of runway 8L for crossing traffic" This (given the plane is small enough, and has enough room) will make them stop on 4R prior to the 8L intersection, or exit 4R prior to the 8L intersection. Let me know if you try it, and it helps :)
One interesting thing about HNL is that along with all the airlines and cargo lines, Hickham AFB also uses those runways, so sometimes if you’re lucky you might catch a fighter jet taking off, I can’t exactly say what jets but I do know we get plenty of C-17 Globemasters flying in as well
If you say the wind direction and then “KNOTS” after you say the speed, it should work. Ex. “SWA15 wind is 320 at 6 knots, Runway 4L cleared for takeoff”
I fly regularly for a regional airline, and rarely do I ever hear controllers saying "knots" at the end. It's always like "320 at 14" or "320 at 14 gusting 19".
Hey mate i love your videos of tower 3d pro and here's a suggestion for you to make the winds work... For eg in this video at 8:55 it will go like this "UPS902 wind is 268 at 3 KNOTS runway 4R cleared for takeoff" You have to say KNOTS word (at 3 knots) in your wind otherwise it will not pick up your command Enjoying your videos cheers
For the wind, you have to say something like "HAL19, wind is 268 at 3 KNOTS, clear for takeoff". You have to say Knots as part of it, otherwise it does the crazy stuff it was doing.
Jeff, The game is super finicky with wind commands. For the wind commands for departing aircraft you have to state the callsign, wind, then runway number, and then takeoff clearance in that order, otherwise the voice recognition screws up. Conversely, with arrivals you state callsign, runway, clearance to land, and then the wind. You almost had it at 7:50. You just needed to add "knots" after 3 and the voice recognition would have recognized it.
Hey Jeff. I noticed a small mistake that might help with your wind calls. When you try to say the wind and look in the command bar, you'll see that it always wants to add "knots" at the end. So maybe if your call would be like this: Seven-Two-Seven-Golf-Hotel wind is two-six-eight at three KNOTS runway four left cleared for takeoff it might help you to call out the wind with the clearance
I discovered 2 days ago that theres a glitch where if you don’t wait till the plane is just about off the runway it will stop then you’ll have to delete it.. “sometimes”
Awesome video, big fan of yours Jeff! I live in Hawaii and my kids are begging me to tell you that there are no Seagulls in Hawaii lol. We love your videos always! Have a good week!
I might be wrong but for the wind data I believe you have to say 003 not just 3 because that’s what was breaking it. You would say winds at 3 and then runway 4R so it changed it so say 345 because they sound the Same to the computer.
Hey! I am considering getting this game but for an old game with kind of bad graphics and a simple concept it's pretty expensive. A base cost of $50 and then the extra purchases of real traffic and liveries is a lot so I want to make sure it's worth it. Would you recommend it? I also wonder if you could tell me how much those extra costs are to get a sense of how much one needs to spend. Thanks!

Thank you!! I appreciate the help. I was reading what I could about the runway ops but couldn’t find enough info in time. Happy landings 😀

Took my first flight lessons here... Tiny Cessna runway 4R while the cargo jets had to wait for us to taxi by
GimeRasta LOL l live in the salt lake vicinity.

I really liked this airport, it's cozy and has a lot of Hawaiian themed decor and snacks. Kind of reminds me of La Guardia but less busy.

I was in Hawaii three years ago today. Nice video Jeff!
Another great Jeff Favignano video. Keep them coming!!
I was just rewatching your old vids of this game lol
One interesting thing about HNL is that along with all the airlines and cargo lines, Hickham AFB also uses those runways, so sometimes if you’re lucky you might catch a fighter jet taking off, I can’t exactly say what jets but I do know we get plenty of C-17 Globemasters flying in as well
Love your videos keep up the amazing work!
NO WAY YOU DID MY FAVORITE AIRPORT JEFF!!!
Only a bit in so you might get it later on 🤣 But you have to say 'knots' after your winds then give takeoff clearance
Love the video man keep up the good work Jeff
I missed this! Love your Tower3D videos Jeff!
This is the content i subscribed for! Towerrrrrrr 3D Pro!
Can’t wait for you to do Seattle. I’m looking forward to it.

Great vid man! Have a great week jeff
I've been thinking about getting this for a while, thanks for the video Jeff!
Loved it, I was anticipating this for a while, well this and Seattle.
If you say the wind direction and then “KNOTS” after you say the speed, it should work. Ex. “SWA15 wind is 320 at 6 knots, Runway 4L cleared for takeoff”
Agreed adding the word "Knots" works for me too.
I fly regularly for a regional airline, and rarely do I ever hear controllers saying "knots" at the end. It's always like "320 at 14" or "320 at 14 gusting 19".
Yeah, I’ve never heard an ATC controller say Knots IRL either, but for some reason in this game, you have to.
So glad you finally did my local airport
Ah yes Tower3D pro. Love this game, keep it up Jeff!
Is anyone excited for flight sim 2020?
He sounds like Blitz with stutter. I love this type of voice

Loved the video! Especially bc you’re one of the fewer ones who use a mic...
YES Tower 3D Pro!!
I remember landing on 8R at night and it felt like I was going to go into the water for sure lol
I love this game you play
As someone from hawaii. This really makes me miss flying on Hawaiian Air.
I think the wind issue may be that you have to use the term "Knots" after giving the reading.
I discovered 2 days ago that theres a glitch where if you don’t wait till the plane is just about off the runway it will stop then you’ll have to delete it.. “sometimes”
Hey Jeff, will you be switching from X-Plane 11 to MFS2020 or will you still play X-Plane as well?
Transition
love your tower 3d pro vids, if only there were more of them 😉
Nice! I really like Tower3D pro :) It’s a nice game you’ll definitely enjoy :) Thx for the content Jeff!
Will you do a lspdfr video please
PLEASE PLEAS PLEASE PLAY MORE OF THIS GAME
The winds work you just have to say "knots" at the end. Ex: "HAL175 wind is 266 at 3 Runway 4R, cleared to land."
Do ohare please jefffff 😂. I go there like every year maybe 3 times a year for miami
One of the hardest runways to take off of

Awesome video, big fan of yours Jeff! I live in Hawaii and my kids are begging me to tell you that there are no Seagulls in Hawaii lol. We love your videos always! Have a good week!
I was just about to comment this lol. I’ve lived here my whole life and have not seen one seagull 😂
Just watch out for the mynah birds!
Nice and I’m from Hawaii too
Can you do these in streams?
I am the air traffic controller for HNL
Wow, really?
I might be wrong but for the wind data I believe you have to say 003 not just 3 because that’s what was breaking it. You would say winds at 3 and then runway 4R so it changed it so say 345 because they sound the Same to the computer.
Also say knots. Might also help. Both might work.
Ayyyy Hawaii Represent
The amount of money they charge for an airport is insane
Hey Jeff
hi
This is sooo relaying to wach
Thanks!
