In 74 the only reason. They lost was because Johan cruijf and his family were threatened with their lives by argentinean abductors if he participated, he was the world's best player at the time but didn't compete, such an loss.

Thought it was a terrible final despite it being a novelty pairing, so many yellow cards and missed chances. For a country with a history of playing beautiful football, the dutch played dirty especially Van Bommel and De Jong.

Puyol should get a second yellow for pulling robben at the second half if not mistaken, but the official denied the complaint. The most crucial error is the goal in extra time by Spain, Wesley sneijder strikes a free kick that hit the Spain wall, it should be a corner for Netherlands. But the referee Howard Webb gave a goal kick to Spain which lead to iniesta goal 🤔

You didn't show why the Spanish wouldn't ever have been able to score the winning goal though. Not because Iniesta was offside, because he wasn't, but the Netherlands should've gotten a corner right before the goal, instead Spain got a goal kick which lead to the goal. Still, Spain deserved to win that match though, eventhough it still pains me to admit that 10 years later.
