So cool! Hope to see the update soon. Little tip as well: maybe you can fix the door thing by regulating the hight of the legs of the cabinet (these should be adjustable)

There is foam spray on Amazon for waterfalls. It is waterproof and dark grey. It's a little more expensive, but that is what he should have used in conjunction with pure silicone.

Your voice, the editing, the cabinet itself, all perfection. First time I’ve sat and binged watched a channel in quite a while. You’ve helped me find the motivation to start raising more plants and to start my own terrarium in a jar.

every time you said that you used the foam to seal or glue something I was like "NOOOOO" lol. The foam is just used to create lightweight mass. Silicone is used for sealing and gluing stuff. The idea for using plastic containers to build mass was genius and the end result is still amazing

haha i know i was kicking myself while i was editing the video lol. im definitely the type to try things without doing adequate research 😭. I saw it’s for gaps and cracks so i was like hmmm this makes sense haha

Another hazard issue is that the foam dispenses styrene vapours when hardening. Styrene litterally melts your brain so most care when dealing with it is obligatory.
Proper face mask and plendy of fresh air is needed.

Question is foam dangerous for amphibians? I thought you have to cut the glossy layer? (I guess doesn't matter since it's for plants but curious)
Also would the water pull chemicals off the foam?

Haha, I got the exact same idea a couple of months before this upload. Except I just build a cannabis grow cabinet. Sealed it with rubber strips, installed 4 CPU fans; two intake in the bottom, two exhaust fans in the top, and fitted them with carbon filters. Mars T-1000 grow lights and a fan for extra air circulation. It just looks great, and you can see and admire the growth of the plants every day.
This build is of course something entirely different. It is beautiful and serene, really great work. I’ll definitely consider converting my cabinet in the same way, when I grow tired of growing 😀 Big up for the upload

    Mist it everyday yourself.
Make a way to drain the bottom every now and then (hole with swimmingpool screw).
    Put in dart frogs.

Put in fans on a timer, its really important in the long run

Hey Rebecca! :-)) I’m living in Germany and here the climate is even cooler than in Tasmania and I’m growing a lot of tropical plants. It’s really awesome that you showed the mistakes, but as someone who came into plants and palladariums from the aquatic side, the number of times I said “oh no, use silicone!” or “no, the foam is the wrong color!” had my cats looking at me in concern. 😂 It’s really neat though, and I think you’ve convinced me that something using this sort of IKEA cabinet will be one of my first real build attempts.

Great work and it looks great. For the next Paludarium ..here are some small but important tips. Carve the shiny first layer from the foam so the silicone will stick. Otherwise it will not. Work in little sections with the silicone, because it drys out fast. It is easier to take your hands ( with gloves off course) instead of a brush. I can not wait how it will look in several weeks. Enjoy your Paludarium.

Beautiful and inspiring 🥰. I built a bioactive, arid/desert vivarium last year. It was for my bearded dragon. Choosing the plants was challenging and I found, their requirements were very different in this enclosed environment, compared to just having them on display around the house. I had quite a few plant casualties, before I got it right.😞
I'm watching your video closely and I'll be saving it for future reference, I'd really like to do a tropical viv next, maybe with some frogs.🤔
Congratulations on an amazing build and a great video. X
