I know this is an old post, but i did this cord for the first time today with a pattern and i was watching the accompanying video. I could not see or figure out what the lady was doing. So i searched and found this one. THANK YOU! You saved me!!!! I have now completed my i cord! You have a new sub!
Thank YOU!! I have looked at numerous videos on this subject, but yours is the best! Finding those knit stitches is difficult to see and understand. The light bulb went off while watching your video! It's like magic!
What a wonderfully clear tutorial. Thank you so much. I just finished my first i cord bind off sleeve on my Ranunculus sweater and this was the perfect finish.
Excellent !!!! First time I really understand the i-cord bind off I’ve seen several Videos but couldn’t understand the movement of the yarn!!! Thanks a lot
You have no idea how happy I was to find this video. I am a new knitter and am doing a test knit. The first ICORD bind off on the neck I did concert in so much I couldn’t get it over my head. Also it used a different way to close the gap and I could not get it to work. I was almost ready to chunk the whole thing in the trash because I have had so much trouble with this and it was all Me not the pattern. You made this sooo very easy. Thank you thank you thank you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and for the salvation of my knit…lol
Kimberly, this is brilliant, so well explained! I just went to my ‘go to’ TH-cam video to remind myself how to join/finish icord bind off and happened to see my favorite TH-cam podcast ‘Knit a Rainbow’ had a video on this technique, as well. So, took a few minutes to watch and happy to say that you are now my ‘go to’ video for joining icord bindoff! Love the last tip of fixing the gap at the underneath stitch when finished as I haven’t seen this addressed in other videos ….. this gap has bothered me and I now know how to fix it! Thanks, Kimberly
Just watching this now as I finished the neckline of the Big Chain Top and needed to close the I-cord. Thank you for being so clear. My edge looks better than I thought it would! Now on. To the short rows! Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! I was struggling to figure out how to even “search” for this technique. The Sabela sweater pattern by Isabel Kraemer also uses this technique and I was so nervous since I’ve never done it. You are a great teacher! Thank you so very much for taking the fear factor out of it!
@@Knit-A-Rainbow ♡♡♡ thank you for the beautiful tutorial ♡ you are an excellent teacher please please please can you show us how do the V neckline icord ♡ please
@@Monique-TheYarnCurator Hi Monique and thank you for your kind comment. What do you need to see with the V neckline icord? The way to add it or the way to close it?
A good detailed video. Maybe if this is ever remade show how the tension of the completed stitches are adjusted for folks that don't know how that is done.
Thank you for commenting, I’m glad this tutorial helped you. I used Cake wool co fingering in gingerbread love and Emilia &Philomene Leona in the color way Janet.
Thanks for the video, I'm trying an i-cord bind off for the first time. If it says to "bind off using a 6 stitch I cord bind off," do I just cast on 6 stitches to begin? Do you then knit 4, decrease 2 together? Thanks
I haven't had an issue with a curl... it could be that you may have to skip a few stitches on the body of the garment so that the ichord does not ripple.
Very informative video, thank you. Question, when you did the icord bind off for your Rock It Tee did you pick up stitches around the neckline, sleeves, etc as per the pattern first and then add the 4 stitches for the icord bind off? I have not done an icord bind off before and I am confused that you have to pick up stitches first, I thought you just start but adding 3 or 4 stitches on the needle and then start the icord bind off.
I’m glad you liked the video! I picked up the stitches for the neckline per the pattern instructions. Then before I knit the first stitch, I cast on 4 sts. In other words, let’s say the pattern says to pick up and knit 100 sts around the neck. After I pick up the 100 sts, I then cast on 4 sts and begin the i-cord bind off. I hope that makes sense 😊
This was so helpful, thank you for taking the time to make this video and then share it! Quick question, why do you keep saying, "chibby needle"? Thanks for your help!
this seems like a funny question but when i finish my I-cord bind off, my ending thread is on the left side and not the right side as yours is showing?
@@Knit-A-RainbowThe sweater you are applying the icord to in the video. Do you have a pattern and/or video of you knitting it? I’m an intermediate level knitter and it looks like one I would be able to knit
I’m not sure I understand your question Linda. Do you want another video about adding ease into an I cord bind off? In other words adding more to ease tension around a hem or cuff?
@@Knit-A-Rainbow I’m doing an I cord bind off edge that has sections that goes around brioche which has slipped stitched edges compared to regular stitches of one stitch per row. I’m afraid the I cord will pull where the brioche is.
@@lindaalikhan7962 yes you can add ease… what you would do for those corners is work the I cord without attaching to the last edge stitch. So work up to a few stitches before the corner (or tight edge) then at the point where you would knit 2 together: don’t knit the two together, simply knit. Slip the sts back to the left hand needle, then work as normal (knitting that last stitch together with the stitch from the garment. I would alternate that way until you get around the area that might pull in. Then continue as ‘normal’ until you get to the next area where it would be tight. I’m happy to make a video if you need more clarification.
I'm glad you found a way to finish it off neatly, however your instructions aren't crystal clear and was kind of hard to follow for me. I ended up just improvising but at least I tried to follow. Thanks for the video

Hi there! You would cast on 6 sts, then knit 5 and k2tog. Repeat to beginning of round. It’s worked the same way with 6 sts instead of 4.
