I had a question about rubbing the pearls together (and feel free to educate me)...I inherited a pearl necklace that has been passed down for 4 generations and I took it to my jeweler to be appraised for insurance and I told him that I rubbed them together and they were NOT gritty. He told me not to rub them together as that scratches them. They are real pearls as I got the insurance appraisal but they are very smooth?
Very interesting. I can tell you, first, I’m not a jeweler, but from doing my fair share of unboxings, genuine pearls have felt gritty. I know I have lots to learn, especially about pearls! Thank you for watching! I bet your necklace is gorgeous.
Did the appraiser tell you how to test for real pearls? Or did he just encourage you to take your jewelry to appraisers?
@@sharonhernandez2039 he gave me some pointers about luster and that real pearls are not all the same shape. Real pearls are also heavy. He said he has been looking at and appraising pearls for 40 years so he knows what to look for.
@@MoonstoneMamas The necklace is very simple but the pearls are just stunning. When my mother had them she got them appraised every 10 years and now that she has handed them down to me, I’ll be doing the same.
