In the 90s, nothing could touch it in the luxury segment. Not even Rolls Royce and Bentley. Those had better interior materials but they lacked the NVH, the safety, and the power that only comes with big budgets for engeneering development.
@@PhantomWoIf A W140 with the opcional extended leather package was a little closer to a Rolls Royce or a Bentley of the early to mid 90s but it still lacked the same level of craftsmanship and opulence inside though objectively, the W140 was in a different league...

It makes me so sad when I think about the future and where cars are going. We will never see vehicles as special as the 140. Cars are so generic now, even MB. Sometimes even I mistake a C or E class for an S class. There’s so distinction like there was on the 90’s cars. I mean could you ever imagine confusing a W210 as a 140? They are both spectacular and instantly recognizable as their respective model. Remember the tail lights? I could differentiate between any Mercedes from the rear at night from hundreds of feet away!
I have a 1999 S 500 and for some reason ESP was an option and mine doesn’t have it, even tho I believe it was standard in all V8 E class, and all SL’s. I think Mercedes-Benz was done spending money on the 140 since production was ending. They also didn’t outfit the 140 with roof-mounted head protection airbags like they did with the E Class 🤔🤔…but you’re right even without ESP and just ASR, it’s amazing the stability even on curves or in turns in slippery conditions. Its such a well balanced chassis that it maintains it’s composure very gracefully unless you really push it to its limits 😈😈

Also the E class ur referring to here is the W210 which was made till 2002 and started in 97 so ofcourse being 8 years newer than W140, it comes with esp and curtain bags. And no the R129 SL didnt come with ESP at all let alone having it as standard option, it only had ASR. You r comparing cars from different generation here mate. The W210 E class got everything u mentioned because its a newer model in simple terms. And as OP said the W140 is very stable vehicle even without ESP. And thank God mine doesnt even have ASR, only ETS.
This car is beautiful and loved in all countries, this is the queen of cars, nothing like it has been done to this day. My father owns a similar one since 2003 and it is with us until this moment. Nothing has been changed in it. The engine and transmission are still in very good condition. I am an Arab from Jordan.
from original factory stock the W140 does normaly NOT do that. for this test they must have made a technical change to it and maybe they made the suspension kick in like that to show of.
No W140 has air suspension. That effect you see is literally the car coming to a very quick halt and the suspension system is simply just rebounding to its normal stationary neutral position.

I owned W 126 420 SEL. Once i was driving on high way, autobahn it was saturday 23:00. I was going 190 km/h it was soft left apex a focused on radio to change station. Sudenly wife shouted: "WHATC OUT"!!! As my eyes focused on obstical in front of me the reflexs took ower, i steped on the breaks the car decresed speed to about 140-150km/h then i puled the driwing wheal slightly to the right. I passed a GB driver who had broke down on high way and stoped on fast lane, owertooking lane and was working something under the hood of the car. I noticed the family in the car, children and wife.... If i hited that parked car with my Mercedes Benz W126 they will be all dead. The crash speed will be at least 130km/h i will hawe alsow broken legs or sething but thankfully the exsperiance and god suspention of the car sawed me and that British familly. I called police imidiatly and instructed them to the spot of break down turist.
I daily this beast in America of all the places. Always get compliments and sometimes questions on what it is. It got no badging in the rear except the Merc logo…some come to me and say it got bulletproof windows 😂 i used to school them about it not being bulletproof but double layered found sound and temperature insulation… but got tired of arguing with some cuz some think they very sure and argue like there is no tomorrow even tho their wrong.. so these days when they say it’s bulletproof i just get along with it 😂😂 . @@010111010110 Does it actually fully deactivate the yaw control? Or does it just deactivate the throttle control portion of the system? Mine has ASR and when I press the button, it only deactivates the throttle control and leaves the braking part of it active. So to make driving in deep snow much easier since it’ll allow you to spin the wheels with full power and not be bogged down by cutting the throttle.

@@Twin_Turbo they're very expensive to run. S320 and S300 turbodiesel is the most reliable, and then S500.

ESP in my VW Golf4 R32 saved my life back in 2004 @240km/h! 🙏🙏🙏
It works really well at 130mph/200km/h too. You still have to know how to drive i.e. small inputs, counter-steering etc, but it works.

W140 s600 is in the rear on hydraulic schocks and on the front have electromagnetic schocks! No air!
Mercedes W140 V12 is the best car yet. the Mercedes W100 looks best of all the S-Class limousines but else the W140 V12 is best S-Class.

Там гидравлика. Богатая комплектация. Обычно на 140 гидравлику ставили на заднюю ось.
