    I needed to hear this journey so bad. I was holding back from applying because I didn’t think in was smart enough to pass. All the other videos I’ve come across they all seem to be starting off with degrees in biochemistry or microbiology so I thought I definitely can’t do this. I’ve always been into science but I’m not a fast learner. This is very encouraging! This video is the reason I applied and I’m terrified and excited equally. Thank you.

I’m currently going through the same journey of being a MLS major like you and working part time as a Laboratory Pathology assistant right now while being a freshman student during COVID. 1. What is the job market like in Illinois for CLS?
    2. Have you had the chance to work in drug toxicology doing high complexity testing?

    • @RosaPerez
      @RosaPerez  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Alexander!
      1. There are many positions open. Most laboratories need people due to low employee retention and increase of employees retiring. If you look on indeed, you can see how many openings there are.
      2. No, I have not had the opportunity to do so. Our lab doesn't have toxicology.

      Thank you I’m glad you were touched by my video! It is intimidating when you are in college but trust me once you are in clinicals and working on the job it’s not scary at all! Most people you will work with are very nice and helpful. I say you should talk with the schools you are considering transferring to and ask them if they have a program and if you can tour it. Ask the director about working in the laboratory and how that is.

    Hey Rosa!
    I just had a question regarding on how I can get myself started as an MLT. I have a BS in biology with a 3.3 GPA and no lab experiences and am trying to become a CLS. So my question is how much experience did you acquire before applying for a CLS trainee license?

    • @RosaPerez
      @RosaPerez  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I applied to a bachelors program for CLS so I did not need any experience prior to applying. You may be able to train with a lab using your bachelors as some do. try and research jobs in your area. There is a shortage of CLS so now many labs are taking people with bachelors degree in biology and will help you get certified. Hope this is helpful :)

    Thank you for this! I just graduated with my bachelors and the gpa thing was really discouraging me😭 I would have to take two more prerequisites before I can apply but this gave me hope. I am also a Latina. I love to see it! 🫶🏽

    • @RosaPerez
      @RosaPerez  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're so welcome! I can completely relate with you as to why it is discouraging having a lower GPA. What many people do not realize is that first-generation Latina's do face many more obstacles and struggles in the higher education system as we may have not had the support that other people have. Culturally, we do not have a line of family members who have attended higher institutions of learning. We also may have to work during school or help out in the household which many students have the privilege of not having to do so. I think you should take the prerequisites and go for it! Thank you for the support and I wish you the best of luck on your educational and career journey!

    Love your story. I am on the way applying into program this December. You talk about 3.1 GPA when you graduate. It means that number when you completed your 4 years college? Or when you finished all requirement classes and entering into program?
    Because I remember they said GPA 2.7 or above to enter to program...
    Right now I am taking organic chemistry. And I am feeling lost right now.

    • @RosaPerez
      @RosaPerez  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the GPA I graduated after my 4 years of college. Not when I applied for the program. I am not certain what my GPA was at that time but I am sure I can find out. Try to get as much tutoring as possible. If you can, take it over the summer so you can focus more of your time on it.
