Great video Mark, really nice to see some of the fish going into your lake and how well everything is going. Really nice catches as well, awesome looking pike as well! Have a good holiday, and look forward to the next one!
Brilliant Mark your lake really has changed so much since I did the guest session on there. Loving the new fish massive pat on the back mate ;-) going to make many happy anglers indeed
Ahh made me look a right tit, well I’m still not finished watching but enjoying it Mark, the patchwork perch was a proper battler and pike was defo a double. Catch you on the next one
Ha!! 😂😂 well, at least you held your hands up mate! 😄😄Yeah you're right there, I deffo underestimated the size of that pike!! Hope you enjoy watching the rest of it mate 😊😊👍👍
Good to see Alex making a proper appearance. I met him last summer at Thorney Weir when he was filming Wuzy. Top lad and a great angler! Happy new year fellas!
Yeah he's ok I guess... 😄😄 Alex will be featuring more in the vids this year. When we are putting together these vids the plan is to shoot an in-session feature with myself and Alex too, the same format to this video really 😊😊
Great Video, Can't wait for next month's installment!! Nice one with the barbel, I caught my first barbel on the bit of river on the other side of where the weir is, went 9lb 6oz and took almost a month of fishing to catch it. Also caught my first chub (including some quite big ones), dace, bleak and minnow on that river too before I had the barbel!
I agree, it's a brilliant river I'd like to fish it again at some point. The silver fish populations are mad in there! I did a couple of days float fishing it when I was up there and caught 30lb + bags of silverfish on hempseed on the hook with the roach alone averaging around 6oz
Hiya Colin! Yeah that would be a challenge!! The otters and seals have really done some damage over there these past few years, those big barbel are very scare now, such a shame.
Great video mark and alex. I've been doing well on the trent this winter on the non tidal but looks like I'll have to head downstream! Hope you had a great christmas and a happy new year
Hi Dan! You too, hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for 2019! Yeah that Cromwell Weir is a crazy place for big barbel, but there's big ones all along the tidal stretches 😊
@big carp catcher .. I know they're fishing Hinckley Basin on the video, but do you mean Cromwell Weir, which is near Collingham. I've fished A1 pits tons of times, but I haven't been there for a few years. I live in Bakersfield, which is very close to Westlake. I haven't fished there for years either. Lol. I've still got all my gear which is still brand new from 4 years ago. I'm definitely getting out this year. 👍 🇬🇧
@big carp catcher .. It's definitely HB they're fishing. You can google maps it and look at the satellite view. Also there's the Plough Inn pub in the background. My Auntie lives in Bingham. You're not my cousin are you. Lol. Don't worry I'll be hauling this year. ;-) You take care mate. Happy New Year. 👍 🇬🇧
smashing vid mark love it.Lake is looking stunning and the fish wow who ever gets a chance to grab one of them is going home very happy.Hope you had a wonderful christmas and have a great new year bud.
Great to see you come back to a local water to give it another bash. That new cafe is just brilliant and with the pub also serving food you are pretty spoilt for amenities. Fortunately due to the oxygenating weed this section didn’t suffer from fish kills this long hot summer unlike other sections nearby which lost everything. A number of fish were saved from certain death, no thanks to the EA and the Canal and River Trust who just wouldn’t respond until radio Nottingham got involved. These fish were moved to the basin including tench to 7lb. So hopefully there will be more varied specimen fishing here for many years to come. Happy Xmas guys and hope you keep the fun challenges going into 2019 and beyond. Keep catching and keep generally buggering about, luv it!
Hi James! Yeah that place is something special, even more so now that great cafe is open! Thankfully the otters haven't totally wiped the place out too. When we filmed the Challenge there we did see an otter and both fish I caught then had signs of damage.
Mark Pitchers I didn’t want to say too much about that Mark but yes they were put in. I have seen the Canal and River Trust with a little stall by the towpath trying to sign up new members, their little brochures with Otters on the front. It used to be brilliant for carp there, multiple catches were easy and they went to mid twenties too. Numbers are definitely reduced now though. The Otters took what must have been some of the biggest canal grown carp in the country from that canal including an immaculate common of 38lb at Cotgrave, a Notts anglers stretch a few miles away. The same Otters took all 16 carp in just a few months out of the very clear shallow stretch closer to the Trent. The sport was amazing at times. My canal pb went 31 1/2lb, was immaculate and went uncaught for many years until I caught it twice in a fortnight. The canal in Notts city centre is more protected from Otter intrusion but has a far amount of boat traffic. It still has two different 30lb plus carp and numerous twenties, plus an odd catfish, huge chub and double figure Zander. Proper urban fishing though, parking is an issue, and you could bump into all sorts of unsavoury characters at times, even crazy old farts like me! Oh yes and you are right there is something very special about these canal fish, they seem more wild than their lake counterparts, they are often in great condition. My favourite in the basin wasn’t the biggest but it was a stunning mirror I suspect may now have been taken. Anyway if you ever go again it may still be there. It had the most convoluted name of any carp I have ever known “two tone chestnut linear mirror one side only”, easy to identify, I think you can guess why! Lol Keep up the crazy carping and sharing the fun, best of luck with your new lake, exciting stuff. Been there done that, there’s nothing more rewarding than developing your own place, making your own rules. 😎😎😎
Well done mate, another good vlog, the fish you stocked looked awesome, you must be pleased the way the lake is going. Happy New Year to you and the family.
@@MarkPitchers all good this end mate, on the bank fishing my last 2 nights of the year ... (baged a hight dubble a few hours ago) so all good, hope all is good with u 2
Amazing work and great video as usual, love all your content. I don't think its right that all lakes these days are stocking the same mirrors though, but each to their own :D
Hi Kieran. I'm certainly not stocking my lake with the same mirrors. I've got a good mixture of strains from VS Fisheries, AJS Fisheries, Fishers Pond, Tony Campbell, Ed Matthews and RH Fisheries. Plus there's also original fish in the pool too. The result is a mixture of scaly fish and more plain ones, plus commons too. I totally 100% agree with what you're saying. All these scaly fish that are being stocked into lakes are becoming the norm, and they shouldn't be, these fish should be extra special, not expected. The thing is some of these scaly carp from certain fish farmers all look the same, the are becoming scaly clones! 😊😊
@@MarkPitchers Especially with some lakes that i know of have stocked their lakes with hundreds of the same strain linears and fully scaled. But in a lake like yours obviously you have picked the units and they will all be very special no matter what!!
