  • Ahead of the release of 'Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death', the Channel 4 documentary discussing her life from the perspective of those closest to her, I wanted to use my channel as a safe space to talk about some of my concerns. 💗 As you know, Mental Health Education is something extremely close to my heart and I always feel I can speak honestly about it in my videos.
‼️Please see the disclaimer at the start of the video. Again, I mean no disrespect to anyone or anything I talk about.‼️
Thank you so much for your amazing support, Much Love x

I’ve really been trying to find someone with a negative take on this documentary...and until I found this video came up short. I was really disappointed with this documentary mention of Caroline’s previous suicide attempts and self harm has just even more sensationalised her love life/ social media as the cause of what happened to her.
Rather than a woman who clearly needed some further support with her mental health, but was not given those tools.
It reminds me of the depiction of Marilyn Monroe. A troubled soul who picked the wrong men, who was bound to commit suicide ‘in the end’

Kirstie: *talking about a serious and important topic*
Me: *staring at that lava lamp*
(No but seriously it’s a really important point about having a professional on a show like this, I had never thought of it like that)

Its social media mental illness. The need for women to get attention is out of control.

Medically speaking, there's no such thing. So I find that to be quite a big generalisation for something that's a much bigger discussion 👌🏼

Idk the full context of this specific case, but I really appreciate your insight on mental health in general Kirstie. If you haven't already, I'd really appreciate a video of you giving your thoughts on what you think is more effective ways to talk to someone who's struggling beyond the surface level comforts.

really good video. After watching the documentary so emotional and hoping it helps people who are dealing with mental health and talking to family, friends and helplines. And that people should be kind and not say horrible things because it can hurt people and affect with their mental health.

I had no real affinity to Caroline but it was her death and all the posturing afterwards that prompted me to delete all my social media. I found it interesting (and slightly distasteful) how they demonstrated how much of an impact social media had on her death yet felt the need to flash up hashtag Carolineflack at every add break.
It's true, as you point out, you can't assign full blame to social media but it has been demonstrated by experts and studies many times that social media has negative effects both personally and for society at large.

Absolutely! Human behaviour can trigger reactions to a person. My favourite quote for my own mental health is "PTSD is a normal reaction to childhood trauma"
I have been through therapy literally because I was falling apart at the seams and I'm generally the glue that holds my children together. When the glue breaks down, the family breaks down. PTSD is not fun. It's flashbacks and nightmares, it's over-protection of your children, it shows up as everything needs to be perfect and organised because if it's not and one little thing goes wrong... it's meltdowns, it's a state of fear, anxiety, panic.
Here's what happened. I was emotionally abused by my mother as a child, psychologically and mentally abused by the cult I was being raised in as a child and I was physically and 's' abused as a child by my father. It's difficult when you finally find your voice, express that voice to the public press, hope that you're going to get support - and get:-
Family (Mother, sister, aunties and Uncles): Why now? Why did you have to dredge up the past? That's like digging up a dead bunny, leave it buried. Why didn't you do X instead? Why didn't you do Y instead? You're just doing this for money, fame! Don't ever speak to me again!
Social media users: Look at what she's wearing! No wonder it happened to her. (bearing in mind I was a child when it happened and the attire I had on at the time it went to press, was not the attire I had on when the horrific thing happened)
Personal: Everyone knows now, everyone is looking at me, judging me. Dirty girl, letting him do that to you, why didn't you fight? It's better off for everyone if I'm just not here.
That last line are thoughts that ran through my head every single day when I released my story to the newspapers and the backlash that was received. I changed my user names on my social media accounts, locked down every single photograph I had ever put on them - hermiting away again just to survive sometimes. Lockdown actually has been wonderful for my own mental health. It meant I did not have to go out and face people. Now it's starting to take it's toll because I know not all people are like that and there are some lovely wonderful, supportive people out there.
If you've made it this far and would like to read my story google search "Angie Rodgers Mirror" and it will be there.

Kristie.... I just watched the NED movie...wow - what a wild/sad movie. Good movie, but super sad. Was it really like this in Scotland back in the day?

You accent is very beautiful, it reminds me of Rayla or Kerillian from Warhammer 40K: Vermintide. They sound kind of the same which is why I like that kind of accent, it is so attractive when I hear a female with that kind of accent. I myself am Scottish among others but I don't know where exactly
If you could take a listen to their accents and tell me where they could be from that would be nice because unlike a lot of people I know of, I know there are several different Scottish accents
