    • @catarinavargas1953
      @catarinavargas1953 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      I think it's very lazy to just tell people to practice they already do that and many artists know of resources that simply would help these guys because even practicing what are you gonna practice? And yeah sure there's the post about ask better questions, but how can people know that they'll give them the time of day if they ask these questions when all the tim it's just practice,just practice that's so dismissive ,all most malicious it makes people think they are lazy and bad when they are already frustrated.

      @@catarinavargas1953 one of the things Tele did but didn't say, is the repetition of the same exercise. Plan to draw something 10 - 20 times, and with each iteration find something to improve. Keep those improvements each time and by the end, you will have both practiced technique and repetition.
      For most of these artists saying practice and repetition, they say that because that's what they've done for years. They practiced having fine control over hand movements, pen control, visual imaging, planning, inspiration, and design. None of these are learnable through a 20 minute youtube clip, it's experience alone. Skill comes later.

      @@catarinavargas1953 Different context but same idea : I was in the middle of a fencing class and one of the guys there told me that I should practice more, which I did. Except that I didn't know what to practice so I just did the same thing I already did to improve it. However, when I fenced against one of the more experienced fencers, he noted what I did wrong during the match and guess what ? Turns out that what I was practicing was actualy what caused me to loose most of the matches I was in. So I basicaly improved my flaws in a negative way, making me worse at what I did. When I knew what I was doing wrong and he told me how to correct them, I started doing better on these aspects and developed my own fighting style. So yea, I understand what you mean, just telling people to practice doesn't help, it might even make them worse at what they do if they don't know what they should improve since they might think that what they do wrong is actualy good.

    Lol I did dot connection a lot in my days when I was between 14-16.
    It got so instinctively good, that when I was in history class about South African apartheid. I managed to draw a beautiful Elephant, but it was more akin to the elephant of SpongeBob where Patrick said "it's a giraff!" but still the shapes were perfectly round and the horns where even accurately displayed.
    I was so proud of that moment for years even though it was more random then planned.
    Sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed on the idea of becoming an artist and not an economics major..

    I've done very similar exercises in the past. Gotta say the difference in skill between someone like me who barely draws as a hobby and someone like telepurte who probably does this professionally is astounding.
    I was pretty good at connect the dots the last time i tried it and drawing an elipse into a confined space only took me about 10 tries to not completely over or undershoot each line.
    Then again. Your animations are also far superior to what i've done so far as well
