Cars & Trucks In Way As Street Running Trains Run Down Main Street! People Scamper For 3 CSX Trains

  • Street Running Trains Split The City! Unlikely Place For Freight Trains. Cars have to get out of the way as Big Trains With DPUs close the street. 3 CSX freight trains in LaGrange, Kentucky on street runner tracks. These trains are passing by on their way to Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. This is old Louisville & Nashville Railway. Main Street is one big railroad crossing. People come from all over the world to see the street running trains here. Railfans are very common.
The first train is a northbound intermodal train. Notice all the cars getting out of the way for the approaching train. They have to get out of the white line area to prevent possibly getting hit. Trains creep through at 10mph until the locomotives clear the street and then they speed up to the 25mph track speed. This train didn't have a DPU but the other two trains did.
The second train is a southbound manifest or mixed freight that had just about everything including a mid train DPU. The engineer had to be wondering what the car in front of them was going to do. The car had the left turn signal on but turned right. Lol. The kids on the skateboard and bike were having a good time going past the train and one boy tried to get the train to blow the horn. This is a no train horn zone so you won't hear the horns unless there is an emergency or some other good reason for them.
The last train is a northbound manifest with a mid train DPU. The DPU is coupled up to a huge Conrail auto parts boxcar. That boxcar is a giant! What do you think about the view of the last train? This is the first time that I have filmed from exact spot. I got up on a concrete structure to get my camera up higher. I think that is probably the best train view possible. I listed the times for each train so that you can see how long of a wait it is between trains. This video is Part 2 for the one that I posted a few days ago. I rode to LaGrange with Scott @1960gambit and we spent close to 11 hours there. We saw 4 through freights and one local freight that came by in both directions. Not sure how to count that if someone asked how many trains we saw. The local only had about 13 cars and one locomotive. Best railroad frequency to listen to is 161.370 but you could also use 161.310 and 452.9375.
Filmed May 11, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

LaGrange is awesome for railfanning, but it's unbelievable how many people cannot navigate that road when the trains are rolling. There are clear white lines and they STILL cannot navigate lol. Always seeing strikes on VR.

Four ways stops at the main intersections. Also the 10MPH speed of the train through La Grange allows ample time for traffic running parallel to the train to clear out. So it is managed.

Anyone who is a railfan should check this out. It is awesome to be that close to the engines when they come rumbling through. The local freight delivers tank cars to the food factory where I work in Buckner. I will have to get video of them switching out tank cars sometime and post it. Also, I have known people who have hopped on these trains and rode them to Campbellsburg and Warsaw. Campbellsburg is another good spot to watch trains. Double track through the town so you can catch trains passing each other.

The community advertisers the railroad reviewing Tower plus the downtown has that restored look to attract visitors. Interesting, even to someone like me who isn't a railfan. Nothing like that here in New England! One thing that came to mind when the occasional rust-bucket came through was that like all the cars it has to be sturdy enough so that when the train starts up it can handle the strain from pulling all those cars behind it. Oh, and taking a shot of the clock as the train started through was handy, but taking another as it finished would be even better. Thanks!

A city that allows a train to run down the middle of a busy road, has no concern or respect of its citizens. Shame on them.

Someone double parked their Ford pickup on the track recently while delivering. Train 1, truck 0. Sadly the truck also got pushed into someone else's car parked legally. Wished I could post a pic for you. There's video of it online.

The best LaGrange video was the one you took in late 2019 when a *LONG* CSX train with DPU interrupted the night time Christmas Parade into town...

Another great video Jaw Tooth. As a kiwi, is anyone able to state why USA has a lot of street running? I could understand it if there was a passenger station, but a lot of the clips I see it’s freight. Not just running through the Main Street like here but urban neighbourhoods. Wouldn’t it have been easier to design you towns so you didn’t build the streets straddling the railway, don’t get me wrong I like seeing it and it is a quintessential American thing. Keep up the great vids. Cheer# from New Zealand.

Though many are still around most have been reorganized. These towns grew up around train tracks before cars were invented or used by avg families. The train was the reason they were built there. When cars came along they simply added streets for access and a particular town or property owner didn't have the money or didn't want to spend the money on changing things. The old horse towing a cart knew to stay out of the way of a train better than many people of today. Lol
Buisness prosperity changes and towns are left without the industry that built the towns. Many towns in the midwest had to adapt after WW1 and again after WW2. Those wars industry or agriculture needs were the reason for many of these towns birth.

I seem to recall that further north of Marsden Point Oil Refinery ( NZ ) where the NI ( north island ) main trunk rail terminated, there is street running in NZ.
Great to see another kiwi on the channel ( for non kiwi's, this is our national bird ), greetings from Hamilton, New Zealand.
BTW, only 90 years ago, most kiwi families did not have private cars 😮😊

@@vernonmatthews181Hey fellow Hamiltonian. Yeah Bay of Islands Vintage Railway still has street running at Kawakawa. Only example left in NZ I believe. The others I think were only ever sidings in Timaru/Oamaru for the flour mills.

@@Ollie1979 thanks Ollie, haven't been in Oamaru for 35 years.
Glad you remembered Kawakawa, couldn't quite remember the local name.
