Or when you've whipped a man or woman crying for mercy who've done no crime? It goes against basic civility. Genuinely boggles my mind, how these people could carry on without any empathy.

@@cratesofjr Ah, racist eugenical theories. Great, Europeans are genetically callous people. So that explains why "white" people were the only race to end slavery world wide, well, at least attempted, as all other races still practice it. People take perfectly reasonable theories, like your Europeans are really Africans theories and pile on conjecture for ideology's sake. There are just as many eugenical theories that show that Africans are less evolved than all other races, which sound as absurd as the theory that your so fond of. There are theories that make all races look bad in one form or another. If you feel justified in believing in racism, which by definition is exactly what your talking about, than the people that think black people just climbed out of the trees have just as much "reasonable-ness" as you do.
....and the cycle of racism continues.
      Much love.

    Bro Cooking with Jay,
I struggle to see how we deny our history. I remember learning about slavery and the civil rights movement in almost every year of school. It's not a secret. No one denies it. I'm glad this museum exists. It's about time. D.C. has had the Museum of Tolerance for a long time and so I'm glad that there's a place that will immortalize this country's sins to serve as a grim reminder of what racially motivated hate can drive people to.
What I can see from reading a few comments is that people some how see the Black experience today, as similar to those times. It's that point I have to argue. I don't think that the conditions Black Americans face today are even close to how bad things were back then. For people to equate their present struggles to the unbelievable horrors that Black Americans endured back then is sad, and it diminishes the experiences that those people had to go through.

This slavery crap is America's history, not Black History, and whites luuuvvvv to see Blacks chained to the wall like dogs because that makes them right ~ "see I told you they were animals, that's why we made slaves out of them"that is how stupid they are and you oblige them!"They Were Slaves too they were White." Hello? The truth is, and you better wake up and listen. [Archaeologists from the University of Geneva discovered a pit full of large monuments and finely carved statues of the Nubian kings known as BLACK PHARAOHS! ] Cheikh Diop concluded that most of the skeletons and skulls of the ancient Egyptians clearly indicate they were Negroid people. That means Negroes were Egyptians! Negroes set the pace for civilization! Egyptians created the calendar; paper, the alphabet ~ they studied the stars ~ You need to learn this and teach YOUR HISTORY to your children. We are the biggest culture going here on planet earth and we ought to start acting like it. HEY!

It’s also pretty sad to just blame anyone white for this. Both races did a part in slavery but there were also the good ones who didn’t agree with slavery. Yes, both... Africans also sold other Africans for European goods and the whites... you know actually owned them.

Remembering our past is one thing, but glorifying it is another. In my opinion these statues do more harm than good for the American people. It's a masked attempt to desensitize the American people that it eventually becomes unnoticeable acceptable in the minds and hearts of people. What the Black/ African American people need are statues at the very least, that empower and inspire them. Rather than pose statues of shame, we aught also to boldly and unapologetically showcase the positive history of our ancestors, who in their own right were mighty men and woman, of great esteem, power and influence as they were in Africa before tricked and enslaved and brought to the United States. That's the only true way to embrace the lessons of the past, learn from it, heal and strive forward with honor, dignity and respect to never repeat it. It's of utmost importance not to only remembering the past filled with great pain and misery, but one filled with immeasurable esteem which we black/ African people should be reminded and remembered by.
