I went to camp in the early 70’s and also sang the kookaburra song around the campfire. I’m really enjoying your videos and your comments. We did the Camino in 2014 and the plan was to go back after we retired in 2020. We are now retired but the trip is planned for 2023. I’m excited to see the rest of your Camano.
Watching you guys knock over 30kms, and more, every day is an eye opener. We were under the impression that most folk did ~20ish, and maybe a bit more, kms daily. It's still early days so we're keen to see if native Kiwi are really that hardy 😄 .... onwards to the next episode ....
Happy belated Anniversary! What type of camera and camera mount do you have attached to your walking stick? I just discovered your videos yesterday and am watching all of them as you travel day by day. Also, how long did you prepare before doing this?
HI Fla Mingo thanks .. I used an iPhone XR mounted on a Zhiyun gimble. The mount on my pole I made myself . We trained for approximately 6 months . Lots of hills with our backpacks on and at least one 20km walk a week . Cheers Jim and De Oh Ps I also used a Mavic air drone :-)
There are many things you guys are good at, but singing is not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I find it very cute and really enjoy it. It adds to the charm of your vlog. Oh I forgot. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
What time of the year did you start? Planning to go in Autumn in 2020. But not sure what month/week to start to avoid heat of summer and cold of winter.
Hi John We set off from SJPDP on the 19 th of August. Apart from a few hot days ( we are used to those ) the weather through late August to the end of September was pleasant for walking with only about 2 days of rain. So yes I would recommend autumn just make sure you have a good supply of water with you at all times Buen Camino and let us know your Camino thoughts when you are done and if you have any other questions please ask Jim and De
@@JimandDe Thanks, planning to fly into Barcelona from Brisbane (QLD) via Doha with Qatar Airways, only 1 stop and 24 hours to and 21.5 hours back. We have friends who live in Zaragoza so after a few days acclimatizing (getting used to the local beer) in Barcelona we will stay with them, drop our main luggage and catch the train to Pamplona, then bus to SJPDP. We have about 60-70 days available so plan to see lots of Spain as well as Portugal and Morocco (Covid strain MK20 permitting). My wife is a native Spanish speaker and I can get by so it should be a relatively painless trip. Will have my 65th birthday on the trail.
That is absolutely fabulous ( mine was a 60th on the trail.) the whole trip sounds great. If you get the chance go to Gerona . It’s about 1.5 hours north of Barcelona. I played an old boys rugby tournament at Lloret de mar and luckily De loved game of thrones ( a lot was filmed there)so when the tournament ended we took the short trip to Gerona and spent her birthday doing the game of thrones tour. It really is a fabulous place . Please keep us updated on your trip. We are soooo having travel withdrawal symptoms and would love to hear your feedback Buen Camino
Hi guys, I’ve watched so many vlogs on the Camino & I love that you mention your accommodation & expenses along the way. My hubby and I are doing the Frances starting mid aug this year. Did you book ahead or wing it with albergues? I love the idea of a private for a few extra Euros. Where about sin Australia are you? We are Geelong Vic.
Hi Michelle We winged it most of the way with our accommodation till we got just outside Sarria .it starts to get really busy then so we booked ahead by booking.com or more often (with some language difficulties )by phone. We left Saint Jean on the 19th August. We live in Perth Buen camino Jim and de
@@michellejayne2277 the town was Santo Domingo de la Calzada just a note on booking accommodation ,there are many factors on the Camino that dictate how far you can travel on any given day ,the weather, your body, blisters, terrain and so on ,that makes it difficult to plan too far ahead.one thing we can strongly recommend is that you book roncesvalles , its one of the only municipal albergues you can pre book and only via their web site. We will be making a video with all our Comino tips and all the gear we took with us with what worked and what didnt in the next month or so We hope this helped Jim and De
“Laugh, kookaburra, laugh...” - you guys just made my day (we used to sing that in my primary school 40 years in the UK 🙏).
Hi Jonathan
So sorry for the late reply, That surprises me . We thought it was just an Aussie thing
Hope you sang along LOL

Apparently the wine is turned on after 9am. Note to self: Sleep in? Or see the sunrise? Hmmm… choices.
Happy anniversary John and De. Stay healthy and safe. God bless!

Hiya.
I did a few 30km plus walks...
But found it more comfortable doing around 18-20km a day.
Wonderful video.! This is the first time I've seen your vlog. I'll look for the previous episodes. Wish you buen Camino.!
Thank you Juan
We are relatively new to social media and we do appreciate your positive feed back .

De, what size pack are you carrying? It looks pretty big!
I had a Deuter 38 litre. I was extremely happy with it . It actually was a good size
:-)
Jim and De I am taking a Gregory 38 . I looked at the Deuters but they were too long to use as a carry-on on my flight

I quite enjoy your singing!
