      Yep and he plays better in general and complimentary football wise with Nick Herbig on the opposite side. He should be started every game from here on out especially in the playoffs. Idc I hope this happens, Nick is the future.

      @ Porter Jr is just another Ike Taylor . Hands of stone but good in coverage . Difference is in Taylor’s era , you could play handsy like he does , but in todays nfl , your flagged for that kind of play .

      @@tiemann55 Hands of Stone reminds me of Dwight Stone! My dad always used to call him that, which is a terrible nickname to have as a WR.
      Joey has definitely missed some interceptions. I'm hoping he'll grow out of that through practice but who knows.

      @tiemann55 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @ it’s just sad that the nfl won’t allow him to play physical . They pick and choose which CBs can get away with the hand fighting , and it seems like Porter is just a guy who always gets the flag

    You can't have a gameplan where its tj is gonna overpower everyone. It doesnt work as players get older.
    If he had a better scheme instead of just telling him to run the same outside rush every play he would have more. Dick lebeau would have tj sitting on 18 sacks while having minkah be part of the game instead of just sitting in cover 2 every play.

  • @DexterDavis-p1r
    @DexterDavis-p1r 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I've been saying that all along the Steelers use to bring pressure my understanding was porter and trice was press corners

  • @Square1production
    @Square1production 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I don't think it's TJ himself slowing down as much as it is that he's just finally being accounted for properly. Other teams are just learning how to put too much between him and his target for anyone, even himself at his best, to actually be very effective. When he's doing something they aren't expecting, or he doesn't get the full package of resistance, he's still having the same sizable impacts he's always had. Teams have just learned how to constrain TJ Watt and he's struggling to overcome that or have the versatility to put wrinkles in the plans they set out for him in particular. Physical ability only gets you so far once the other team knows exactly what you'll be trying to do on every play.
    It's like if Polamalu was only capable of doing what he did coming from one direction with the same motion every time, he'd still be physically capable making an impact most of the time because of the talent and unique skill advantage, but eventually everyone would have known that he was going to be in a specific place at a specific time and would have a much easier time accounting for him.
    The analogy isn't perfect because the positions, and the game itself at this point are fundamentally different and I'm entirely aware that there's only so much TJ could even hypothetically do differently in his position, so it's not actually his fault in nearly as much of a capacity as the analogy makes it sound. But it's a very similar caliber of talent and a stark difference in role that illustrates the point.
    For the first five or six years of TJ Watt's career, no one really had an answer for his style of play and ability, then a few people figured out how to beat him, and from there it propagated over the next year or two to the other teams with the O-line talent to put it to use.
    And all the holding penalties that don't get called certainly don't help, either. But it's so consistent that you can also chalk that up to being a skill these offensive lines are learning, to make it hard for the officials to identify the holding as it's happening in real time.

    • @ozfan6
      @ozfan6 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      The funny thing is 'slowing down' is still 11.5 sacks and 6 FF, still an objectively a fantastic stat line through 16 games. And that statline doesn't show that he's eating literally 3 blocks a lot of the time, meaning our 3-4 man rush gets pressure consistently still.

    I like your analysis. Do you think that Justin can be in the future here? I think he has the talent but they need to let him play more freely so that he can make the big plays. You have to be willing to risk the biscuit. They did not let him but they are letting Wilson and look where that is going.

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t think the Steelers are an organization conducive to developing QB talent… I just don’t see where it comes from.

    • @ericthurman1050
      @ericthurman1050 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mike2687 I would agree and disagree. You are mostly right. But Big Ben was here and this is not Chicago. I think Pittsburgh plays a concept of football that is conducive to qb development but Mike T needs to win a playoff game and that does not lend itself to qb dev. But they dont seem very good at rookie dev either. See Roman Wilson. GP and BRODERICK.

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ericthurman1050 - I’m confused on what the counterpoint is that you find disagreement with-Big Ben? I think we could easily say that past OCs created a good situation for a QB like Ben.
      Or just the “concept of football” aspect… stylistically, I don’t think many NFL teams are bad spots for a young QB to develop-it’s much more about the teacher than the scheme and I don’t see anyone to teach the position.
      Or are you simply extending the lack of development to the defensive side as well? If so, I completely agree.

    • @ericthurman1050
      @ericthurman1050 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mike2687 I think I agree with your second opinion but my point with Ben was that Pitt has developed here and that is more than many organizations can say. The Bears, Browns, Modern Jets, Raiders, etc. I do think that coaching matters but the scheme is important too. West coast asks things from qbs that Power Run /Go deep doesnt.
      Ball Control/ complementary football is a great way to start a qb. And if you give them weapons then you can get them confident. its typically the second stage where the dev stunts.
      That is where you find out if the qb is a gunslinger or true game manager. If you have a game manager then you stay conservative longer. See Tom Brady.
      Ben was a gunslinger and that means you have stomach picks while getting the wow plays.
      but that goes for all positions and the basics and the personality.

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ - yeah, I would’ve said the Steelers were a great landing spot for Ben back then just as I would say the current (last several seasons) Steelers would not be a good spot for Ben. I don’t see any resemblance of the franchise that Ben stepped into.
