Well, you don't get it on the optics for a start. Apart from that, cameras are just machines. Anything lubricant good for another machine is likely good for a camera too.
Interesting video! Thanks for posting it. Do you know of anyone out there that ever explain the why & how functioning of those parts you didn’t remove (shutter retard and self-timer I believe)? Most videos seem to leave them intact like you did. I’m guessing they are a gear train that have a weighted wheel at the end? Kinda like the speed governor on music boxes, minus the fan/air-paddle. And the one for the shutter must be able to jump in or out of the full cycle, otherwise they would all be one second. Thanks again!
The reason is simple enough. The retard gear train in particular is a real bugger to get correctly adjusted if you remove it. Usually, if the shutter had worked correctly after its previous service, then it will do so again once you have serviced it properly. Problems can occur if someone has messed with the speed adjustments in an attempt to get a shutter working better instead of stripping and cleaning it.

$2 stores sell sets of three small brushes, nylon, brass wire and steel wire. The brass one is excellent for cleaning fine threads in aluminium.
