As soon as I found out that this team was the worst shootout team ever AND Kovy was the best single-season shootout scorer ever, I literally said "NO WAY"
I know this team is super recent, but the 2022-23 Flames deserve a video. I cannot stress enough how frustrating this team was to watch as a Flames fan. For reference, that Flames squad literally set the all-time record for most losses when outshooting an opponent by 10 or more with 25.
Watching this hurts less knowing that the Devils managed to pull themselves out of the pit of dogpoop as of now, but this still hurt. Watching Brodeur having age finally catch up to him was like watching the family dog get old. Thanks for the video.
A very very brutal season. A great defensive team that was very slow and old. And honestly the reliance on Brodeur probably cost them a playoff spot, Cory Schneider in his prime was a top 5 goalie in the NHL. All they had to do was win 6 of those shootout wins and they land a playoff spot. Offensive scoring was nonexistent except for short bursts. Also excellent video.
Devils should have started a rebuild once Parise signed with Minnesota and Kovalchuk left for Russia. They should have learned from the late 90’s and early 2000’s Rangers that signing aging stars to bloated contracts doesn’t work.
It's the 50th anniversary of the Scouts/Rockies/Devils franchise this season, so I'm gonna be putting the spotlight on the a fair bit! Along with the other team who shares that anniversary...
Few notes from a devils fan during this time. 1. Beautiful tie back to kovalchuk. It wasn’t lost on us. Every devil fan knew just how good he was at the shootout and his absence was definitely felt. Don’t forget this was the year of the tj oshie shootout Olympics, where kovalchuk was one of repeated shootout goal scorers for Russia. 2. In the credits of the video you should’ve/forgot to mention that this streak would snow ball into the longest shootout losing streak of all time. 18 in a row. March 2013-October 2014. In fact I was so used to this team being shit that the goal at 20:50 legitimately took me off guard too 😂. Overall amazing vid tho. Love ur stuff.
Yes, you’re finally doing a vid on my favorite team! But of all the seasons to choose, I definitely didn’t expect this one. This set the Devils back YEARS; 2012 was their last chance and it was time to rebuild. I think this was the year that effectively confirmed that the window was closed.

@@NorthernKnights I only remember this because the Red Wings were horrible in the shootout during the lockout shortened 2013 season and the 13-14 season and I remember looking up shootout stats and seeing the only team worse at shootouts was Infact, the Devils.
