You are amazing for doing something out of your comfort zone!! I cannot dance either. I would have thought that I as a runner would be coordinated and able to dance. Nope, not a chance. I have two left feet. Love the moments you have with your kiddos. It brings me back to when I was their age. Enjoy your trip to Amsterdam; it’s on my bucket list to visit as well as a few other European cities!!

Sunday mornings are my favorite! I wake up early, since, you know, my timezone is three hours later, so I want to get to the video as soon as humanly possibly after it's posted; but as soon as I do get up, drag myself out of bed and tend to 678 needs of my hungry cat, I can finally sit down and watch the new video that you have posted, and that is truly the highlight of my weekend. On a side note: Do you normally just have normal Wednesdays let out? Just asking because where I live we have Wednesdays let out of school 1.5 hours early every week…
I absolutely love your videos. Since I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher up until last year really. I'm 16 now, and the idea of spending all day teaching kids is still in the back of my mind. It's what I truly want to do. However, with recent occurrences, I don't even feel safe in school anymore as a student. I have two years left, and that might be all I can take. I cannot imagine living with that fear every. single. day for the rest of my life. Not to mention the responsibility of so many little, fragile lives in such a dangerous era. I don't know. I graduate in 2021 which means if it really comes down to the wire on a career choice, I could wait to see how things go in 2020. How do you do it? I would love to know if these are real things you worry about and how you keep going to work everyday.
Do you have any English language learners or students with disabilities in your classroom? If so you should totally do a video on how you help them! I teach English as a new language and I would love to hear it from an elementary school perspective since I teach high school!
I student teach 5th grade. I have a student with autism, one with a hearing impairment, a few have learning disabilities, and all most all are EOS (English as a second language). The best thing that I've seen is to have them up front, allowing modifications as needed, to talk through all assignments, and if they do poorly on multiple assignments from the same subject, to pull them and do a one-on-one teaching and see where they need help.

Sorry but just saying I'm mad about that since I'm smarter than high functioning autism people, my IQ is 128. I, also hope your student has a good day next time you see him, tell him have a nice day, it's weird to say that a random 11 year old on YT said that but tell him to have a nice day for me!!

That is what is proper and correct to say here in New York. Not my fault you don’t like that. Take it up with the state. A disability isn’t just autism. Do some research before you get mad.

Those drawer labels are like my absolute favorite thing! I use them all the time! Another idea for storing extra papers is to use a file folder system. I label mine 1-31 (days in the month) and then papers just get placed in the day of the week that it was passed out.
Definitely a great vlog as always! Get well before your trip. I’m just getting over a sore throat and cough and I had to come home early from my mission trip because of it!

I totally understand. However, with now balancing grad school, I don't have the time to produce an hour long video every single week. I would argue that they are still just as personal and raw... I'm growing as a teacher and don't experience the exact same struggles anymore. I also am choosing to keep certain things personal for confidentially purposes.

Ms. Feries (sorry if I spelled that wrong). Throughout the video you expressed the goal of trying to get home earlier. My mom is a teacher too and she goes to work extra early before you have to come in and she plans then. This way she can get home right when that day ends and the students are gone/on the bus. She does this so she can come home early and also because when all of the other teachers come and she is in the hallways she gets stopped a lot to talk and she gets nothing done. It’s just an idea but also I just wanna tell you how inspiring you are. You seem like that awesome teacher that every student hopes to get. Someday I wanna be an awesome teacher just like you❤️
I was at a dance competition and we were in a classroom as our dressing room and there was a light switch like yours and nobody knew which one to push to get the lights on (we don’t have those kind at my school) and since I watch your vlogs I always see you click the first and third one so I clicked only the first one and the lights came on! I have a student job that is “secretary”... this kiddo answers my phone when I’m with a small group. Of course, I usually still have to go to the phone; but many times the student can take a message (So-and-So is being dismissed, etc) So helpful!! 🤗
It's really funny how American schools don't encourage children to eat healthy food and reduce waste, but I still love your channel very much indeed! 😍

+Pocketful of Primary Michelle , I always like to put it like this . It's like a loaded suitcase . You have to unpack something out of it in order to make space to put something else in . Otherwise the suitcase will not close all the way and everything that is in it will eventually fly out . It's kind of the same thing when students are carrying other things in their heads that block them from receiving a lesson and they have to let out whatever is blocking them to make space in their head to receive whatever you are trying to teach them . I wonder if some fellow teachers can help me out. My students take an exam every few weeks. They are mostly at-risk youth, and the exams occur very early in the morning. I can tell most of them haven't eaten breakfast, and this greatly effects their scores. I want to bring in some small breakfast for when we have these exams. BUT I don't want to bring in something unhealthy, like donuts or breakfast sandwiches. What are some health(ier) alternatives I can bring in to keep my students satiated and ready to tackle the exam?
Thanks guys! I hadn't thought about granola bars. I did think about bringing in a fruit tray or a bunch of bananas. Maybe I'll do like a mini buffet- fruit, granola bar, and Greek yogurt.
Just a little note: Get a keepy cup and save the environment! You are always getting a coffee or some drink in plastic cups! If you do it then some of your viewers might switch too! Every little action can make a change!
Getting coffee is usually a spontaneous decision in the morning so I am not always prepared with a refillable cup. However, I have plenty of other ways I am saving plastic (reusable containers/bags in my lunch, refillable water bottle that I carry daily, etc.)
Fair enough! It would be fantastic when you do something sustainable that you point it out to your viewers! I'm on a green buzz and see that as a teacher we have such a platform to spread some green ideas and as a TH-cam you have another exciting platform!! What is your schools policy on lesson plans? My school has us turn in plans for the coming week the Friday before, but the district i student taught at didn't require formal plans at all unless it was an observation.

I exhibited that or the equivalent of that back when I was an autistic student in school . And really in any event when you allow your students to " unpack " what is in their heads that is blocking them from focusing you are in your own way
de escalating by avoiding something worse from happening .

I wonder if some fellow teachers can help me out. My students take an exam every few weeks. They are mostly at-risk youth, and the exams occur very early in the morning. I can tell most of them haven't eaten breakfast, and this greatly effects their scores. I want to bring in some small breakfast for when we have these exams. BUT I don't want to bring in something unhealthy, like donuts or breakfast sandwiches. What are some health(ier) alternatives I can bring in to keep my students satiated and ready to tackle the exam?
Granola bars
Oatmeal package, make healthy muffins with less sugar or bring fruit bananas apples and oranges precut
Bananas (cheap, easy, healthy) and granola or breakfast bars
Thanks guys! I hadn't thought about granola bars. I did think about bringing in a fruit tray or a bunch of bananas. Maybe I'll do like a mini buffet- fruit, granola bar, and Greek yogurt.

Just a little note: Get a keepy cup and save the environment! You are always getting a coffee or some drink in plastic cups! If you do it then some of your viewers might switch too! Every little action can make a change!
Getting coffee is usually a spontaneous decision in the morning so I am not always prepared with a refillable cup. However, I have plenty of other ways I am saving plastic (reusable containers/bags in my lunch, refillable water bottle that I carry daily, etc.)
Fair enough! It would be fantastic when you do something sustainable that you point it out to your viewers! I'm on a green buzz and see that as a teacher we have such a platform to spread some green ideas and as a TH-cam you have another exciting platform!! What is your schools policy on lesson plans? My school has us turn in plans for the coming week the Friday before, but the district i student taught at didn't require formal plans at all unless it was an observation.

Amsterdam has been on my list of places to travel for a while! Billy surprised me with a trip for Christmas this year! We've got a huge list of places to visit and food to eat while we are there :)
