I love the idea of leading with a value proposition instead of a niche. I think mine is becoming entertainment and inspiration 🌟 I mostly do studio vlogs about my art but I don't want to trap myself into only doing art, especially when I don't always feel like painting 🎨 Thanks for the tips, Jade!

Thank you for this! This was a great video for me to watch as I am still VERY NEW to this whole YT thing. I just uploaded my 12th video and I'm not going to lie, the discouragement is real. But I continue to tell myself the very things you say in this video. I'm new, no one knows I exist. I'm not going to magically know how to do all the things but what I do know, is that I don't intend to stop. I've got ambitious goals I want to accomplish and this platform is going to help me do it.

Hello. Love this video. I started my channel in January this year. My goal was to upload ONCE a week or maybe twice. LEARN to edit and batch create and simply inspire. The growth has been slow. But I'm achieving my personal development goals which is what matters. Thanks for all your tips. 🤗

LOVE these tips! I've seen a few different videos on this topic and they all seem to say the same things, so I really appreciate your fresh perspective. Especially the tips on making micro improvements, and value offerings over a niche. Can't wait to implement these myself, thanks for the vid 💛

When we’re starting a channel from scratch is interesting to experiment new things, right? But what if we’re here for a while, how do we know how to niche it down (like a really good format we should keep doing, not really niches), our biggest strengths, the next steps?

I am a professional marketer and content creator (for a company, not by myself by the way), and the analytics would tell you the answers! At about 24-48 hours after posting a video, look at the analytics for that video. What is the impressions click thru rate? That will tell you if the title/thumbnail is working or not. Higher the better. What is the average view duration? That shows how long the average viewer is willing to stick around and watch the video. Longer the better. You can also look at the little time graph that shows when viewers drop off. If you notice that viewers drop off after your intro, then you know you need to make a change there. Viewers will always dwindle as the video goes on but the sharp peaks and valleys will tell you more info. Then you have engagement per video. So did people subscribe, comment, like, dislike, etc. This tells you how engaged with the video people are. Are they subscribing? That means whatever you did or say convinced someone to follow you and see more. More engagement the better (unless it’s negative like unsubscribes and dislikes).

I would probably work slowly, if I was trying to find my “sweet spot”. So if I notice that a specific type of video has more views and thus a higher click thru rate, I’ll check to see what’s the difference between that video and the rest of my videos. Maybe it’s simply the thumbnail and title are more interesting. Or maybe the entire topic is more interesting. Then I would test and make two more videos following the same topic/title/thumb. If I get similar results, then I continue to do those things. Once I am consistent with those new changes, I move on. Which of the videos now has the best average view duration? When do people drop off? That’s when I pay attention to my content. Maybe people stick around during my talking head section, but jump off when I transition into more of a b-roll, vlog format. Or maybe everyone only says for just my intro which is a cold open, but the secondary set up to the video is so boring people don’t even care to see what the cold open was about. Then I change these things one at a time and test them. A three video test is good for every change to see if it’s actually working.

The worst part of making micro improvements is looking back at your old content and cringing. The pacing in my first few videos were so bad that even I lose interest as I watch them, hahaha.

Thank you for another amazing video. Recently, my average watch time has been going crazy. My last two videos had an average watch time of over 115% for the first few days. After that, the rates started slowly coming down until now they are at around 45 to 50%.
