Maddi The Nerd it's really not that hard. You just need to open the cartridge, take the board out inside, carefully take off the old battery which is really easy, just have to be careful and then solder a new one on.
The reason it wasn't given a point is because you have to also carry around a special screwdriver to replace the damn thing. A portable recharging dock would've been way more useful and would've totally been possible at the time.
When I was like, 8 or so, I walked in to a Game Stop (first mistake) and asked the guy at the counter for help (second mistake) finding a protective case for my Gameboy Color (new at the time). i think you were way too hard on the judgement scale for this, you didn't buy it new so of course you can't expect everything to be 100%, you should have judged things based on thought, not function years after it was sold. I'll point out what you didn't mention. 1: Gamecube adapter: Good for at home, lets you use your GBA SP and even your standard earlier model GBA in your Gamecube. Useful in it's intended purpose. Though it's a 3rd party item, still, pretty good. 2: Car charger: Many cars have cigarette lighters in them, it's that button that is removable, it has a coil inside that heats up, and is then used for lighting one's cigarette. It was made standard for all cars. The Car adapter uses that electrical current used to heat up the heated coil of the button, but uses it for a more modern practical purpose, to let you charge your GBA SP while on the go. Useful for all ages, from the small child you have who likes retro style games like the GBA's library, to the retro adult who might just want to recharge their GBA SP while on the go, and play anywhere. If you have a car, you have access to electricity to power your GBA SP or recharge the battery. Heavily practical, often you should keep it in your car. 3: The GBA Link cable, likely comptable with GBC hardware, though GBC link cables are forward-compatible with GBA and GBA SP, still, a link cable is ideally useful for if you want to go trade and battle Pokemon, which is what most people used their Gameboys for after the Pokemon games were released! The Gameboy family of hardware became known as "Pokemon machines" for many years. Interesting fact, if you have a Gamecube with a Gameboy Player hooked up to it, you can hook your link cable to the Gameboy Player directly, making for a useful link. You can also use the same link cable to connect 2 Gamecubes together via the Gameboy player peripheral! EXTREMELY useful! 4: Game cases: These things are used to carry your game library in your pockets while on the go. If you're a kid, then being able to carry your GB to GBA games on your pocket while on the go is practical, but you should remember to check your pockets before throwing your clothes in the wash! Useful, but only in the regard that they make it possible to carry more of your GB library with you on the go without a bulky case to hold your entire collection. Considering those cases can hold either 1 Gameboy/Gameboy Color game, or 2 Gameboy Advance games, it's pretty useful if you have a select few favorite games you want to carry with you at all times! 5: Rechargeable battery pack for GBA SP, EXTREMELY PRACTICAL! When the rechargeable battery in your GBA SP shits the bed, and will no longer take a charge, you'll be glad you have a spare battery to charge! Ideally at home. Useful for home, maybe on the go. Logically sound to have a spare battery. I feel your judgement was a bit cruel, possibly ignorant in this matter... 6: Headphone jack. That was useful on the GBA SP, though Nintendo made a more flexible one as a short cable. The 3rd party ones were rigid, which posed certain problems. Still, it made it easier for you to listen to your GBA games while trying to keep it private so your game music wouldn't annoy anyone else. And the sound level was fairly quiet so that children can hear their parents voices during gameplay. Often useful. 7: The game cart mount for GBA SP, letting you carry some select games you like. Practical to a degree, though it should have been able to allow connectivity to the other included game cases. Practical, but it could have been more practical if you could attach your game cases to it too... 8: The lanyard/neckstrap. Practical for adults who want to carry their GBA SP around everywhere and have it visible, like for challenging other GBA SP players to Pokemon battles. Beyond that though, it's too long for small children, and may pose a choking hazard for some. Still, useful for retro gamers, not so useful for small children. 9: Faceplates... Not exactly practical, used entirely for style. I wouldn't want something just for style, but some people like the added customization options of their faceplates. Now a days you can get non-intrusive skins for your GB from the classic model, all the way to your modern 3DS XL, new3DS, and even the Nintendo Switch can adorn a skin that is non-intrusive. Good for style, not very practical though... 10: Screen protector: Useful, but if it's already scratched to hell, it's likely seen a lot of hard times. If it can still adhere to your screen for the sake of protecting it, it's serving it's purpose. Practical to protect your screen, but not too practical. Optimal for those who are paranoid about their screen getting either too many fingerprints, or worried their screen will get scratched up. 11: The hip clip. A useful thing to carry your GBA SP around, resembling a hard holster for guns, looks cool, and frees up your hands. Combine with the lanyard/neck strap, and you'll not have to worry about it being stolen. Great at retro conventions where you might be playing link trades/battles with people in Pokemon up to generation 3! Practical, but can be made more so if you combine it with the neck strap/lanyard! 12: The FM radio: it was fairly useful if you liked FM radio, which is FREE. The only downside is you need to stay within the signal range of the radio station. Useful for if you like FM radio, not so useful for anything else... 13: The magnifier! If you have poor eyesight like me and your glasses get broken, or you just to happen to prefer the convenience of a larger screen, this will be a godsend! Especially if you have trouble reading text! Awesome if you have dislocated lensed too like my deceased brother had. So if your eyesight is not the best, and you need a somewhat bigger screen, the screen magnifier is an ideal peripheral for a GBA SP. Practical, and you can use it as a standard magnifying glass if you need to zoom in on something within it's limitations. You were a bit ignorant on this part, as you didn't even bother to try without your glasses, or are they just for show? 14: The Stereo speaker attachment: Speakers have a magnet built into them, and sadly, after enough time passes, speakers will lose their ability to produce sound, especially if they do not receive enough electrical input. Many speakers rely on an electric boost to keep functional, and sadly, so many speakers like for headphones or earbuds end up dying from things like overexposure to moisture, or the wiring inside erodes from either too much use, or too much moisture. The squeak from the speakers may be the speakers trying to charge up enough energy to produce the sound, but you didn't give it a chance. Though given how speakers are, it would also make sense to see if it was possible to replace the internal speakers of this attachment. I would do a teardown of those speakers if I had them, see what makes them work. It's well known that the built-in speaker for the GBA SP has a pressure-attached speaker, no soldering required, if the stereo speakers uses the same kind of pressure coils as the built-in GBA SP speaker, then getting replacement parts to modify this part could be easy... 15: The "Wing Grip", good for a more ergonomic grip on the device. I wish Nintendo put a more ergonomic grip as a built-in function to it's family of portables like the Gameboy family. Makes it easier to grip your GBA SP. It must be said, a lot of these things are practical on the whole, but maybe I'm being more lenient with the peripherals.
Cool video David. Thats a lot of plastic. quite a monstrosity at the end. i dig it. love the crotch shots too.. I mean hip thing. looks like your packing...Mike who? i stick to the sock method my self. to accentuate.
Game Dave Yeah i dunno.. some day we'll have to compare it to the Lynx, game dot com, and nomads.. suppose that wii U whatcha ma call it is pretty hefty too. but not sure what were talking about anymore. thought we were talking about bulges.
The battery pack is for when the battery pack already in your Game Boy Advance SP starts to bloat and not hold a charge for anything; and would need to be replaced as a result. This of course means it will be collecting a lot of dust before you actually need it because the battery packs in the Game Boy Advance SP systems are actually surprisingly not that prone to bloating, but it's still good to have a spare just in case it happens.
I had that box of accessories when it was new and I gotta say those speakers that didn’t work for you were my favorite they really did help, as well as the grip those things were the best thing for me to play Metroid fusion all day
I received this same kit back in the second grade and remember using that FM radio on the playground quite a bit and while on the bus to and from school. Always thought that was a neat accessory.
The radio works using the headphones as an antenna, so if you had them untied, you'd pick stations up better. Still have mine from years back and works still as well.

me being a small channel myself, I find more quality content on less popular channels. and you are one of them. thank you.
10:05 imagine a copyright strike for that lol
Holy shit, I didn't expect a Suikoden game. A very very underrated series
the screen protector would actually be useful. Just because it was used doesn't mean the new one would not b.
Tyler you right, he was assuming this thing was in mint condition despite it being bought from goodwill
In fairness, the magnifying glass could be good for kids that had vision problems but wanted to play their GBA
we get that its a GBA sp, you don't have to keep saying it
That's kind of a running joke of the video.
This was the first video that got me onto you dave, so glad this came up randomly one day :D
Q:What GameBoy actually needs a magnifier...
A:The Gameboy Micro
my father used to take me on road trips a lot growing up. All of these accessories would ha e been awesome to have for my SP
I have the game holders. One of them won't even close.
Let's go the mall mom! I have my games and my game boy.. Let do dis maaaa! *Looks At Camera*
For the radio attachment, undo your earbuds. It might actually be using the headphone cord as the antenna.
This now is a PC, not a game boy!
"it scratched up my junk. not my junk but my junk"
litterally 5min later, sticks his junk in front of the camera over and over
10:10 sounds straight out of Bioshock Infinite
so trueee
I used to have those speakers when I was younger and they never did work, not even when they were still new.
girls can watch this too why isnt it called gameboy girl
Why not?
lel
Quatroking Rs #triggered
Never saw a game boy advance sp girls edition?
Quatroking Rs does nobody know the reference here
4:28 thats a good thing. What if your bateries dye and if you are on a plane or bus this is good but for some reason its bad
FM should be a point because you wouldn't just pick up Christian channels
BenevolentDick I imagine the Game Gear would over the most heftiness.
Game Dave
Yeah i dunno.. some day we'll have to compare it to the Lynx, game dot com, and nomads.. suppose that wii U whatcha ma call it is pretty hefty too. but not sure what were talking about anymore. thought we were talking about bulges.
BenevolentDick That's always what we will talk about.
Game Dave
I'd stick with cucumbers but i always get hungry.
I kinda think youre overly hating all these items for no reason lol
I had that box of accessories when it was new and I gotta say those speakers that didn’t work for you were my favorite they really did help, as well as the grip those things were the best thing for me to play Metroid fusion all day
i feel like this guy is trying too hard
He is
Yeah
I received this same kit back in the second grade and remember using that FM radio on the playground quite a bit and while on the bus to and from school. Always thought that was a neat accessory.

That place is probably haunted
Lansa, I believe a camera man
Bro, thank you for relieving my childhood once again :)
Good Lord, who taught you to pronounce Suikoden? (Sui-ko-den)
Most of your complaints about stuff like the screen protector was because it's old and you got it at good will
When his wife has a miscarriage
"NO POINTS!"
Thank you for attaching as many as possible lmao I was wondering if it worked together lmao
