      @@AstarteElviraLyana There are actually two branches of medicine in India
      1) Ancient Ayurveda - Very useful as a preventive measure only. Prescriptions are easily available at home, and are quite effective.
      2) Allopathy - Useful in emergency and when ailments have occurred. Useful for its modernity.
      Problem arises when people don't follow prescribed lifestyle of Ayurveda, fall sick, and then start following it, which by this stage is not that effective. People die, and blame deaths on doctors.

    Mattress protector, then mattress fitted sheet, then basic sheet. I own several sets. I change them out every 2 weeks and more often if needed. Never let your mattress remain uncovered. Yes, if you have kids their pee, vomit, juice and milk will occasionally get thru all layers. But that's when you spot clean it at that moment so don't let it dry up and stain. We've had our mattress for 8yrs and still looks new. Bed sheets come at all different price points....no excuses!

    My first question was how you make the cleaning process more cost-effective than simply buying a new mattress; then I saw you're from Trinidad & Tobago and that answered that. Island living is EXPENSIVE, especially when you have to have large or heavy items shipped in.
    So my next question: When you say a "three piece sheet set," what is the third piece you're referring to? Most of the times a 3pc set is for a twin size bed, and the third piece (besides the fitted sheet and flat sheet) is the pillowcase, which wouldn't do anything to help keep the mattress clean.

      Personally I have 2 mattress protectors; one fitted vinyl one, and over that a fabric one that sort of acts as a very thin mattress topper as well, and then the fitted sheet of my sheet set.

There are mattress protectors that zip around the whole Mattress and doesn't sound like sleeping on plastic bags. I check for bed bugs even though I do have a full wrap around zip protector, just to be on the safe side. If you know how to clean, not saying you don't, but some don't, than it's really easy and fast to make sure your getting everything quickly. I only spray it with a bed bag over it and I seal it tightly. Once I leave it alone for about 30 minute in the bag that's when it's aired out with the ceiling fan going and windows opened. Yeah, I am really wondering several things, although I probably can just explain it with people being people:
    - Why sleep on the blank mattress? Just putting protective sheets on it can keep it so much cleaner and you can swap them often. It's the same as having pillow cases - totally normal. Or was that the case but just insufficient at blocking dirt to seep through?
    - How weird is the financial situation where someone neglects their mattress horribly and then when it looks like ready for the trash doesn't get a new one but pays for a thorough cleaning service that might still not resolve a 'hidden pest breeder'?
    - Who would even want to sleep on a mattress that looks that awful and wouldn't have decided to at least put a clean sheet on it at that point? And are these cases where people have to make the experience once and then learned their lesson? (I guess one can still run a business on enlightening people once. New fools are born every day, so to speak.)

    • @elaynem91
      @elaynem91 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I wondered about the financial aspect of it too; I kept thinking "Just buy a new mattress, ffs, it'll probably cost about the same." But then I saw that he's in Trinidad & Tobago; things are MUCH more expensive to replace on islands than on the continents. I know someone who lives on Bonaire and getting a new refrigerator cost her several thousand dollars and three months; I could have bought the same fridge myself for under $1K and had next-day delivery. Plus there's the issue of garbage: On a smaller island, if everyone throws out their mattresses every 7-10 years, pretty soon there's no land left, and transporting it away to a "mainland" landfill will probably be just about as expensive as shipping in a new one.

    Anyone that keeps commenting on the lack of sheets, you have to understand what it's like in a 3rd world country. Having a mattress is a luxury. Needing extra fabric that isn't used for making clothes, just to cover the mattress? That's just being greedy!

    Is it normal for a mattress to look this bad? Just last year I finally got a new mattress after like a decade, and it was literally the same exact color as the new one, it didn't have any stains at all, and it definitely wasn't completely discolored like the one in the video was. I never used a protector either, and slept on it with my dog for the decade that I had it. I know smoking in a house would cause severe discoloration, but other than that I just didn't think a mattress would be that dirty normally?
