  • I share my thoughts on shoe trees, focusing on the value of different styles including everything from a classic cedar wood generic fit up through a full bespoke shoe tree. I showcase shoe trees from Carmina Shoemaker, Yim Shoemaker, Antonio Meccariello and Ichigo Ichie Shoemaker.

On the first part, I saw the comment mentioned and rolled my eyes. That's part and parcel with engaging in social media platforms. Every one has a voice, and even the most malicious/uninformed can be heard. The way you're handling it in taking time and forming a coherent response is admirable.
With regard to shoe trees. Modum Shoemaker looks to entering the remote bespoke range of shoes, and my query for them is if their trees are bespoke lasted. I'll be interested to get their response. Definitely think the determination of buying lasted shoe trees comes down to the value (emotional & financial) you place on your shoes.

Appreciate that! Yeah unfortunately that’s the case. It’s one thing to purchase or have the shoe and make a claim like it’s not as nice or not what you expected. But to make claims about shoes that don’t even exist yet, and make accusations that make zero sense based on the factual evidence is nonsense.
I’m not that Familiar with modum, but that would be good to know!

As my shoes are most slim and narrow it's great too see those slim pointy shoe trees. I need those, thanks for the tips

For sure! I don’t want to break my own suggestions but more often than not I’m positive these rumors and accusations have to start with someone who is just jealous of the skill or work.
Why else would anyone take the time and effort to make it up

What shoe tree should I get for my soccer cleats ?

Probably none. Just some deodorizers. There’s probably no leather in them

Specially made shoe trees are good for completeness, but in most cases standard trees will perform the vital functions of maintaining some shape and moisture licking post wearing. The evidence for this is the active used shoe tree market (here in the UK at least). A few people with large collections will rotate shoe trees rather than leave them in. As important is caring for your footwear with whatever you have available and some handy tips to mind.

100%, anything is better than nothing and I have shoes with a tree in it right now and they’re still alive. My perspective for my own pairs is if I were to get a mtm suit, would I use a wire generic hanger or would I use a proper hanger to keep the jacket in the same drape as it was made. The wire hanger would definitely keep it off the floor and work though. It’s just a matter of preference

@@Shellvedge Indeed. Circling back to shoe trees. Weight is a consideration for travellers. I know some makers will hollow trees out. Any views on this?

@@teenoso4069 it’s a great point to call out, personally it’s not a huge priority. I have a few extra sets of trees from acme and stc, not on purpose but it just worked out that way. So I can use those and still have a great fitting tree on the road. But ultimately, bespoke makers will do it upon request

@@Shellvedge The wire generic hanger without proper support (wider shoulder area) would ruin the suit over time much quicker. It's even more important for suits to have better support than shoes. Generic shoe trees vs lasted and wire hanger vs better made wide shoulder hanger.

@@rsforpr0s thanks Jan, it may not be the perfect analogy but it conveyed a similar concept which was the point. Appreciate the input
