    HOW TO DO IT?
UPDATE 2: Quickest way to change the "date created' on any file on newer MacOS systems.
    1. Open Terminal:
    2. Type in the date you want to change the file (SetFile -d '05/23/2023 12:10:54' )
    Or with the filename (SetFile -d '05/23/2023 12:10:54' /filename.txt)
    3. Drag and Drop the file/files into the Terminal window. Done! ;-)
    UPDATE (10.15.6)
    Thanks, ‪@johnmacleanmotorcycling9795‬ (PINED comment)
TH-cam is not allowing me to put it in the description.
    MANUAL:
    Creation Date / Modified Date
If you are changing the creation date attribute will also change the modified date attribute.
    1. to open Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
( cmd + space ) to open “Spotlight Search”
    Type in “Terminal” press enter
    2. Explain what is for creation date and modified date
    -t = for created date
    -mt = for modified date
Replace YYYYMMDDhhmm with the desired date information:
    “touch -t YYYYMMDDhhmm “
    “touch -mt YYYYMMDDhhmm ”
( copy without the question marks!! )
    3. Type the following in the command line “Do not press enter/return” !
    Example: 22nd May 1986 2:24 pm ( 14:24 ) or 22.05.1986 2:24 pm
    -“touch -t 198605221424 “
    -“touch -mt 198605221424 “
    UPDATE
If It's not working then try this out
creation date: (angle Bracket right) Setfile -d '08/31/2019 11:00:00' (angle bracket left)file.txt(angle Bracket right)
SetFile -d 'MM/DD/YYYY' drag and drop file here (changing Creation date of file)
touch -t is used to change the modification date now onwards
    -------------
Do not forget the space otherwise you get a message
( touch: out of range or illegal time specification: [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.SS] )
    4. Open Finder locate the file you wish to modify.
Drag and drop the file into the Terminal window, the file, and path will be added to the end of the line.
Here is an example of what the line should look like:
    Option 1: Single file
    touch -t 198605221424 /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time/all\ in\ one\ pdf_by_MaikKleinert.com.pdf
    Option 2: Multiple file
    touch -t 198605221424 /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time/Concert-Online-Course_by_MaikKleinert.com.jpg /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time/Film\ Photo\ Collective_by_MaikKleinert.com.png /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time/Instagram\ @MaikKleinert.png
Option 3: Folder ( Do not forget the /*)
    touch -t 198605221424 /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time\ FOLDER /*
    Then press enter!
    Done
To check the date ( right click on file and “Get Info” ) or press ( cmd+I )
Also you can Add /* to the end of the command. If you’re only targeting a specific file type include its extension (e.g. /*.jpg).
    Example:
    touch -t 198605221424 /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time\ FOLDER/*.jpgor
    touch -t 198605221424 /Users/maikkleinert/Desktop/How\ to\ modify\ date\ or\ time\ FOLDER/*.pdf

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! My wifi shut off and I couldn't turn in something on time for my class. I emailed the teacher to see if I could still turn it in and she said I had to have proof that I finished it in time. However, I accidentally opened the file and changed the modified date. This helped me get the correct modified date and I was able to turn it in! Thank you so much for saving my grade!!!

Excellent - Just scanned hundreds of old photographs all with today's date, not helpful. So this was an absolute breeze to apply slightly more realistic dates to some very old photographs. Worked on both date created and modified dates. So cool you also anticipated some of the silly errors we were likely to make, which I did, and this allowed me to work through my issues and finally get it right.

Thank you!! Was working on some OLD files from an OLD sony camcorder that saved in .m2ts and .modd extensions. Those were uploaded to cloud in 2012 and when I convert them to .mp4 or .mov today is the create date which throws off the timeline of my photos database. I found your video to be creative and helpful. There is an update to terminal and developer tools on MAC required to run the "setFile" command. Netting it out here for ease of reference from my terminal. type in the date, drag the folder and put /* with no space and whalah! setFile -d '06/22/2010 10:22:00' /Users/username/Documents/DateChangeTest/*

This can easily be done if you have Adobe Bridge. Once a file is selected there’s a command “change capture time”. It allows you to easily capture date and timem of the original file.

    • @MaikKleinert
      @MaikKleinert  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Mpower I know this in Bridge and Lightroom but for older files it is not working. If you have old scanned photos let’s say from 1985 you can’t change with LR or Bridge to this time ;) This was Video for him because I found this way online. A first I said off that’s easies via LR or Bridge but unlucky not

Hey, thanks for this clear tutorial, I have one issue. I have dragged and dropped files (jpegs) from a folder into a terminal and half of them got corrected but other half did not, despite trying to do it several times.. Anyone got an idea what could be the issue here? Thanks in advance

Natalia D thanks for your feedback. How many files are into the folder ? You can try to create a new folder and put the files in there are not corrected and try it again with the new folder ;)

Hi Maik. I need to change the created year to a folder's worth of photos due to the camera settings being wrong. All the other date info - time, month, day etc. I need to keep the same. How would I go about doing this?

How do I change the photo name from IMG_1234 to year, month day on Mac? The fastest way for me to organize photos is searching for the year, then I can copy all those photos into a new folder. For example when I take a screenshot it shows "screen shot year month day time. On my iPhone I want to change it to the same information.

I took an image yesterday but the properties say the last modified date was a month ago. Obviously impossible but forgetting about changing it, why is it wrong in the first place? Thanks

Hi Maik, The 'touch -t' worked on the 'Date Modified' but not the 'Date Created', any solutions? The files is jpeg. (Same as Kianchi Hiro and PROEDGEBIKER.COM). Also is that possible to change only the year without changing the rest? Thanks!

Have you tried this option ? *UPDATE* If It's not working then try this out
creation date: (angle bracke right) Setfile -d '08/31/2019 11:00:00' (angle bracke left)file.txt(angle bracke right)

I appreciate this instruction. Thanks a lot. However it would have been better for illustration purposes to use a simpler filename (e.g. 'testfile.png') without any spaces. Your chosen filename gives some challenges... :-D

Hi, for a Microsoft Word document, this is only works when you check the properties of the file in Word or when you select 'Get Info' in Finder. When you send a document to someone and attach it, the properties information it shows whilst selecting the file to attach it aren't the dates you changed them to via this method, it shows the original time stamps and the same happens once you send it the concerned file and the recipient checks the time stamps. How do you ensure there's continuity throughout?

If you modified the date of the word document and send it via email will the recipient be able to still see the original date of creation/modification? If so is there a way to prevent this from happening?
