Part 4: Hull Extension The Materials - Thermolite, FF360, Fibreglass, CSM, Woven Roving, Biaxial,

In this video we're looking at the materials I'll be using for my hull extension project. This includes the fibreglass matting, Thermolite, FF360 core materials and the basic resins. I talk about the fibreglass and how it gets it's strength from the direction of the fibres and we look at all the different mat and clothe types including CSM (chopped strand mat) woven roving, biaxial, double bias and quadaxial cloth.
I look at the laminating schedule for my boat and the tabbing into the stringers and bulkheads. I also make some quick comments about future laminating of the bulkheads with 600 gram CSM and 600 gram quadaxial cloth.
In the next video I'll be preparing and glassing the Thermolite bulkheads which form part of the structure to get it ready for installation while we wait for the weather to clear enough to start the installation into the boat.
The hull will be widened by adding a sponsons to the sides and all the fibreglass work will be added to provide additional structural strength and structural integrity. With this we will be adding a higher chine which will be just below the new water line of the boat. The main reason to keep the new chine below the water line is to prevent chine slap which is an annoying problem that occurs when chines are slightly above the ware line and waves come up and slap against it creating an annoying sound, especially if you're trying to get some shut eye.
In addition to this we're using all composite materials throughout These products are designed and manufactured to ensure they don't absorb water. These products will include Thermolite and FF360 - but more on that later.

It doesn't actually show a stringer lamination schedule but it shows the FF360 H60 foam that comes with 1050 gram laminates used for stringers and tabbed in using 2 X 150mm 600gram Double Bias tape
