One of America's greatest and best composers. You have only to listen to All The Things You Are, Long Ago and Far Away, People Will Say We're in Love, and Showboat!

Show Boat was just on TCM channel tonight and I was blown-away at the quality of the music. And the number of quality songs that Mr Kern used in that musical. Good music never ages and Show Boat is awash with great music

Thanks to the late conductor John McGlinn, I gained such an appreciation for Kern through his recordings of Showboat and Sitting Pretty, and selections from Sweet Adeline, Sunny, The Cat And The Fiddle, and Very Warm For May, among others (all using the original orchestrations). I love the discarded songs from Showboat, including "In Dahomey", and "Creole Love Song". It would be my dream to get a complete recording of Very Warm For May, from which sprang "All The Things You Are." PBS featured some Kern songs (and overtures) in their phenomenal Broadway Classics show (with McGlinn).

The Dean of the Musical Theatre. The body of unpublished works must be heard...

I'm curious why the musical selections were omitted here. The Vincent Youmans video included them.
