    100% agree. Currently sitting by my fire, in West Virginia. Spent the day on quiet roads taking in the spectacular fall colours. But don’t tell everyone, it’s a secret.

    Fall camping here in Texas is the BEST. Summer is too dang hot. I’ve done it, but only on the river where I can just spend the day there. The heat is finally breaking down here, so planning the first trip for next weekend. Can’t wait!

    Completely agree on the laid back and quiet nature of a fall overnight on the bike.

    I love camping in autumn. Love how nature prepares for winter. But I also love the cooler temperatures.

    Exactly. When I was younger I didn't mind camping in the summer (100+day/85night) sweating 🏀🏀's. Going car camping with the family to lake Whitney this weekend coming up and Colorado Bend the weekend after on my bike. Also have a date for Big Bend in Early December on my bike. Best time of year to camp.

    I stopped by Moto Camp Nerd on my way home from a few days camping and visiting wineries in Western North Carolina and West Virginia. First, the store is amazing and visiting with Ben was awesome. Everything you are saying is what we experienced. Pleasant temperatures for hiking in the fall colors and hanging around a fire at night, availability of lodging and camp sites, and getting the flannels out of the closet! Appreciate the video.

    Not sure if you mentioned it and i just missed it, but less flying bugs to annoy you when camping.

    I did a week in California Sierra mountain range around Lake Tahoe in October. Many campgrounds closed soon after Labor Day even though weather was still great. Able to find favorable weather with elevation. Only 4 (of 28) sites were occupied. Just checked overnight temp dropped 18 degrees two weeks after my stay there.

    I love my puffy booties! Got a bright obnoxious pink Baffin pair on sale (for obvious reasons) and will sometimes even wear them around the house and deck.

    Hurricane season really messed with camping in the SE. A drought has been happening in OH and the NE so fires are out. The whole empty campground thing...I'm not sure about that. Campgrounds are still packed on the weekends I think Ben just goes during the middle of the week and plays off the weekend warrior mentality to make himself look like an everyman.

    • @MotoCampNerd
      @MotoCampNerd  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @checkingreality I'd also so east coast is more condensed with people and less camping opportunities that are far spread out. Plus you get the leaf peepers in early fall with the changes. Funny how I remember droughts here in NC mid fall and into winter with fire bans as well right after hurricane season. I've had some really good luck with forest service campgrounds being completely empty on weekends during peak season and then some are slammed all week long. I think it really depends on how popular the area is for other activities and camping.

      It's been really nice lately. 70s during the day and 40-50s at night. Perfect riding and camping weather! Although we are in central NC so it's a bit cooler up in the mountains.

    I agree with everything you said, autumn is my favorite time to camp. Living also in the PNW, another point is the roads aren't dusty so getting to the campsite isn't a chore either. And it might be a coincidence but I find that my local FSRs are usually graded in the early autumn so you don't have potholes to complete with.
    I find the dampness of the air makes nature sounds different too, less echo-y, like having sound deadening vs not. I'm a warm sleeper as well, I was out in the low 40's last weekend and slept in my hoodie with my sleeping bag up to my waist and was just fine, though that was more due to having to sacrifice some of the sleeping bag for the dog.
