My first car was my parent’s 1980 X-11. For my high school graduation present, my dad had the car painted and graphics updated to match the newer X-11 style (it was different for the 1980 model). 4-speed…would do some serious burnouts! Ours was reliable up through 120,000+ miles!

Thanks for sharing this. Brings back plenty of memories. Bought a silver 85 that sat on the dealer lot for almost a year because it didn’t have air conditioning. My new wife and I got to enjoy the car for only a few months because it was stolen from our apartment parking lot. Yes, it was stolen. The theory was the thieves were after the wheels, but since I had put McGard wheel locks on it, it was faster to just take the whole car.

I had a 1981 Citation, light blue, bought brand new, $7000. It had a 4-cylinder 2.5 l. engine, factory 4-speed trans., no AC, bench seats. It was a 4-door family car. I kept it 25 years and it still looked new. It had 57,000 miles. A very quiet, smooth riding car. When sold, it still had the original tires. It could get 33 mpg on the highway.

Stunning, and what a gem! That tuned exhaust was also stainless. Could only be more perfect with a 4-speed. I had a red '81, bought it new. Mine had no problems for 16 years and 130k miles, until it was rear-ended at a stop light. Was a sad day.

1985 was the last yr for the citation. The x11 package came with a one year only 2.8 LTR V6 with multi port fuel injection. Also, the citation dashboard finally had horizontal hvac and radio controls. In my opinion, 1985 was the best yr for the X11!

My father had a silver 1981 X11 with the 4 speed transmission. Neat car just not all that well built of one. I remember we had a lot of issues with interior bits falling off or not fitting together all that well. So it is a quite a feat this one looks so good. We did have everything fixed, but have seen lots of Citations where the owner never bothered. These originally had the rear hangers on the shelf, they usually broke pretty quick. So I am guessing the owner found a non stock solution.
These did do very well in theit claaa at the SCCA races at Summit Point raceway back in the day.

As a 5yo whose dad had brought home the launch brochure I wondered why there was no 5-door X-11. As much as I'd like to think I was a prodigy who realized GM was sleeping on the sport sedan trend even at that age, it was probably simple pattern recognition.
