The resurrectionist sounds like the island of Dr Moreau crossed with Frankenstein! Doctor Moreau is about rearranging animals to make them more human like and is very very dark for its age. In the US the dark Magi series is included with my audible membership, there are two other books but there are only audio books for the first three.
