""You Can't Win" has definitely grown on me over the years, but I'll admit I'm saddened they've all but buried "I Was Born On the Day Before Yesterday." (The musical's _original_ song that introduces the Scarecrow, with "You Can't Win" being written for Michael Jackson in the film adaptation and which the _The Wiz Live!_ used as well).
You Can't Win was not written for Michael Jackson. It was written for the original Broadway production of The Wiz for a different character, and was cut before the show premiered. When they made the movie, it was decided to put it back in the score for Michael to sing as Scarecrow, and it replaced Scarecrow's song from the show.
Incredible vocals and that band is having a blast. Thanks for sharing! Btw, your voice is great too but as another audience member, I ask that you not sing during the show. When this comes to New York... I'm going to be the one dressed as the scarecrow, holding up The Wiz album and singing along with the chorus! There's a reason why many cast members at many different shows call me the best audience member ever! Girl if you want to sing along, sing along! Take it from not only a theater performer, but from a guy who was the only dancing during MJ the musical and doing the conga with the On Your Feet Cast when they came into the audience! The cast members love it and it energizes them more to give an amazing show!!!
Coming from someone who works on Broadway. Unless prompted to, it’s very rude and disrespectful. The performers like when you applaud, cheer and show enthusiasm at the end of the numbers and show. Not interrupting others around you during their songs and scenes. The theatre isn’t a concert setting. Yes some shows are set up like a concert where that could be appropriate and encouraged. other rise don’t sing along.
One thing about this particular production that irks me is that it kinda misses the entire point of the original story. One of the biggest themes of past Oz adaptations is that Dorothy's friends have always had the virtues that they had been searching for, and they never needed The Wizard's help at all. They just needed a little validation from a trusted source. THIS VERSION actually goes out of its way to establish that Evilleen really did steal their virtues. Not only does Evilleen gloat about her handiwork upon meeting them, but The Scarecrow is the only one immune to her mind-control because "you can't brainwash someone with no brain." Then they suddenly realize that they feel incredibly different immediately after Evilleen is defeated, with the Tin Man remembering his family and the Lion feeling a newfound sense of bravery, BEFORE they get their pep talk at the end. Speaking of their little pep talk, that brings us to The Wiz himself in this version...... WHAT AN A$$HOLE!!! Yes, he's supposed to be revealed as a fraud, but he's also supposed to be redeemed by helping the gang realize that they've always had what they wanted, by giving them tokens to help them remember that, and by offering to take Dorothy home to Kansas in his balloon. He doesn't do ANY of that in this version. As a result, the song "Y'all Got It" is reframed as a moment of gloating, as if to celebrate that he doesn't have to accept any responsibility for deceiving them. Seriously, he just peaces out after the song, leaving Dorothy and company in total shock, until Glinda arrives.
oh so they ruined it? Ugh. Just like what Andrew Webber did to Oz. I saw a red flag when they had the same actress play both Aunt Em and the Wicked Witch.

Meanwhile, the double-casting actually isn't anything new. While it all depends on the production itself, some past productions of "The Wiz" have the actress who plays Aunt Em would go on to play Glinda. I'm not sure why they chose to double-cast Aunt Em as Evillene in this production as it kinda adds a weird subtext of how Dorothy sees her Aunt, but at least they gave Glinda a bit more to do in exchange.

Both characters resemble a harsh reality of adulthood, determined to stamp out childhood innocence. By double-casting Wendy's father as the evil pirate, it creates an allegory of Wendy's fears of growing up. By double-casting Aunt Em as Evillene, it sends this message that Dorothy doesn't see her aunt as anything more than a hateful individual, even though the entire PROLOGUE of the show demonstrates Aunt Em's care and compassion for her.

This choreo is sadly sadly missing the mark. I mean there isn’t any at all. The tornado was absolutely dreadful, none of the big numbers are using the skills of the dancers. I just don’t understand waiting all this time to bring this back and it’s not up to par. It has its good moments, but I can’t get past how bad the choreo is.

She was standing on the top level of her set, and starting “melting” and ultimately, she seemed to of went down a trap door slowly at the end.
