Without a word of exaggeration, you are a GREAT teacher. You know your subject and have a great way of communicating and explaining yourself. You are an inspiration. I love your charisma and sense of humor too. keep up the great work. I just liked and subscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Dear Who? What? When? Why? How? Thank you for absolutely making my morning! I'm just revving up for the day and a notification of your wonderful comment came in - now I have a lot in my step as dance into the day. Thank you!!
Thank you for this amazing video. So true,, so honest, so helpful. And by the way, IT IS THE VERY FIRST TH-cam VIDEO I FIND WITH 0 DISLIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unique!
Love this particular video. After 20+ years in acrylic mixed media, making the change to pastels found me feeling surprisingly vulnerable and hesitant. Loved the practical reminders in this video.
Soooooo good to hear! Dive in and DO! With your art background, I think it's getting used to the medium which means getting in there and pastelling. You have all the art-making skills to help lead you on this journey of exploration.
Fantastic Advice. I think the one about not allowing society dictate what you want to paint is good and taking risks in painting. The problem with me is that I feel that I should paint something that has more meaning/ less superficial subjects. Perhaps your advice to explore different subject will help.
So glad you think so rojodosh. And thanks for pointing out the things that spoke to you. I hear you and understand when you talk about feeling you should be painting something more meaningful. Paint what moves YOU. In doing that, and painting them with passion and intention (understand why you are painting what you are painting) they will begin to take on a deeper meaning. Let me know how it's going!
Thanks for this excellent and inspiring video! This really what I needed to hear. Very helpful tips! I want to get deep into understanding colours, composition, etc. and I do read up about various artists and their styles and watch tutorials. I am so glad to hear from you that for beginners it is good to learn from great artists by trying to copy their painings and styles. I am doing that currently. Thank u :-)
That's so great to hear Mala!! The main thing is to PAINT! Definitely look at good art but it's in the doing that you develop your creative muscle! And copying with intention does give you insight into composition, value structure, colour choices. So yay you!!
"listen to your heart and soul" I feel like I've lost my style and that I am completely starting over. I am trying to make a living off of my artwork. I've fallen for the fads and now I am lost. This was very helpful and I hope one day my style will come forth and make my feel that I am unique.
I am so glad to hear that this video struck a chord with you. I am sorry to hear about where you're at and feel your pain but know there's a way through it. If you can, take some time to play and paint. Paint without judgement or expectation (easy to say but try doing this). I would suggest not showing anyone else this work. Just do it for you and see where it leads. Keep at it and a path will show itself. Your very own path.
Thank you so much to my new found inspirational pastel art tutor…your words have certainly inspired me to continue with my own personal “pastel medium” challenge. Thank you for helping get my mojo back ! Cheers, from Australia
Great advice - paint, paint, paint is certainly true. I have painted more this year than I ever have, and finally I think I have some methods of working that feel true to me. It does take time though!
+Joanne Lillywhite Yes the more to paint the more a look, a feel, start to coalesce. And yes it takes time. But painting everyday speeds up the process. Joanne you certainly have a style!!
Thank you for letting me know that my personal journey is on track. I was afraid that all of my side journeys (learning about color...etc.) are really the way to go and necessary for my growth as an artist.
Thank you, Gail. All of these tips were so helpful to think about. You shared so much artistic knowledge and vision in this video. I agree with the person below. The statement that your style will find you says a lot. Thank you. I really like your style that you have in doing your videos.
Tzipporah thank you so much!! I'm always so glad to hear that what I share is helpful. If you paint, and paint some more, your style will find you! And as you grow, so will it. And, one more thing, often people will recognise your style, that you have a style, before you do!!
I'm going to write down your tips as ten commandments on my board so I see them everyday. Thank you for your nuggets of art wisdom. Very helpful for me who's starting out at a rather late age😁
I Gail, I love that video. You are so inspirational and approachable. Thank you for sowing the seed of COURAGE. I live on your island...maybe I'll meet you one day !!
Hazel I'm delighted that you are inspired to gather your courage and go for it!!! And being so close geographically, once things get easier to connect with others, I'm sure we will meet 😀
Thanks for your great advice, wisdom, and positive outlook! It's really helped my perspective as I'm studying painting for a year and have been desperate to 'develop a style', but i just need to stop worrying and just enjoy the painting :-)
Very inspired by your content, I am directed to paint what gives me meaning this is what is of utmost importance to me! Thank you! I love the idea about painting series. You are the Best!!
Thank you so much Denise!!! And yes, painting in series is a helpful practice. One of the days we will do that in the IGNITE! membership. gailsibleyartschool.com/waitlist_page/
Thank you for being so articulate and explicit and for forming the search into steps and moves. Yours is the most helpfull video i came across and i really appreciate❤ again thank you and g-d bless you.
And another thing - thank you for bringing that old school way of teaching into that new-age-please-like-me media.... i highly appreciate that true-to-yourself voice. You are a great clear teacher.❤
People get hung up on finding a style. Just paint and paint lots, take lessons, look at lots and lots of art. Try different techniques, keep learning always, never stop learning. As the lady said. Your style will find you. Then try something different...
Loved this! I got a lot of encouragement and confidence building ju-ju from this motivational video!! ALWAYS look forward to the "bloopers" at the end!! Thank you, Gail! Paint Paint Paint!!! Perfect advice!
Excellent words, Gail...! I found my stile in photography after knowing photoshop better and better...and all of your advice happened during my way. The same is true in painting...! You are so right...thank you for your nice presentation...:-)
Bo glad you enjoyed it! And yes, she does have GPS and she will find you. In fact I'm sure she is already there. Just breathe, paint, and let her emerge 😊
@@GailSibleyArtist sorry for my super, super late response 🙏 .. well, i like your analogy of painting ang cooking 😁 and of course your reminder for us to always practice practice and practice. And TAKE RISKS 😎👍😍 Anyhow, stay healthy 🙏
Thnk u im inspired im about to paint a lot! I usually paint once a year and i only paint when my brushes calls me but now i will paint regularly to express myself and to find my style as time flies thnk u godbless madam!
I'm so glad to hear you will try to paint regularly. I know sometimes it's difficult to make it happen whether it's finding the time or the motivation but it will pay off for you. So try to schedule in painting time. Even if you don't feel like it, show up in the studio. There's always things to be done there and before you know it, you'll be picking up a brush!
+Jeramie I Vy I usually suggest Unison or Sennelier (the half sticks) or Mount Vision. Have a look at my video about this subject! th-cam.com/video/AoVSzetSRCE/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for this inspirational talk. I loved how you said you should paint whatever excites you, even if it's violent images. I have had an interest in murder shows and horror movies and have considered incorporating that into my art. Your words inspire me to explore that in my work.
