I have been a lawyer just short of half a century now. I watched this program and I was very impressed. Try and watch it more than once and pay careful attention to everything he says. It can be very useful if the time ever comes. Great job!
Seriously, that hit me home. I didn't know my rights and wasn't really interested in studying my rights on how to deal if ever stopped by police because why should I, I am a law abiding citizen, until one day, two bastard cops decided to tackle me to the ground and hold me at gunpoint for one hour for no reason because I was getting my bus pass from my pocket but the thugs lied that I was reaching for a gun that I never had. I raised my hands up, and the pigs still tackled me to the ground claiming I had a gun in my bag and said that I attacked the officers with a gun even though I had nothing on me besides music and books. They held me at gunpoint for one hour, never checked my ID, nothing, and after they released me, they couldn't stop laughing. I am so pissed at myself that I didn't know my rights because I could have sued the pricks for millions. Now my rights are not useful because cops only assaulted me once in my life, was about 10 years ago. I would love this to happen to me again because now I am so ready and know exactly what to do, so my knowledge of rights such as, not to talk to cops, record them if possible, don't consent to illegal searches and remain silent, and always consult with a lawyer would be so useful. Stupid me didn't report them back then! I would love this to happen to me again!
Most excellent. Retired 44 years of public safety service. Bad cops make us good cops like us look bad. We good cops understand that the public safety is our job, but how we effect it is up to each officer. We realized that the public pays our salary and benefits. We are public servants. We must treat people as good as we can. Give benefit of the doubt to people. We must keep our emotions in check no matter what. We are the example to the public. In 1978 we knew this and were Adam 12 type cops. Not perfect but honest and truthful and owned our mistakes and offered apologies to anyone we offended or somehow did wrong by error. The public was quick to accept our apologies and understood we were people just like then. We gave respect 🙏 and we got it 98% of the time. The other 2% were normally thugs but we still gave respect and all ended good. God-bless you and your families 😊 Chief Jones
I was pulled over at night and followed Mr Murphy’s directions. Turn on interior light, car and radio off, window down, put hands on wheel and kept cool. The cop took my papers and came back and said, “I’m letting you go because this was a good stop. Get your registration updated.” Thank you Mr Murphy.

This video changed my life forever. I was being victimized by the police all the time and they couldn't find anything. So I went on to finding out the laws and the rights I had and was able to finally overcome them all.
Just for everyone's information, rule 1 isn't actually law. You can use profanity and rude language all you want, it's not illegal. Its just ill-advised.
@@brianwalendy3735 Doesn't matter. A good criminal defense lawyer will wordlessly point to the first amendment and it's smooth sailing from there. The constitution trumps any bullshit local rules/laws.
@@taloutezero in concept, yes. In reality, if the Constitution trumped local laws, I would not have a record for half the shit I do. Nor would I be risking jail by driving without a license.

Smart phones certainly helped with bringing the offenses to light, sadly there are those who still think filming police should be made illegal. I see it all the time on facebook.
Ian Battles Depends on where you live, but yeah. You don't have the right to shoot authorities who search your place, even if it's unlawful. If their search is unlawful, and they try to prosecute you for anything they find, you can easily dismiss that evidence in court though. So you have no reason to resist if they barge in. Just clearly tell them that you don't give consent, and hope they don't go further outside of the law to nail you.

I was in a really bad relationship for years and one night he became very abusive and a neighbor heard the struggle and called the police which I was actually thankful for UNTIL..... They knocked on the door and asked to come in... I said sure.... Once inside he asked if he could look around a little... I didn't realize I could say no and wasn't really worried about it.... 20 minutes later there are three cops tearing apart my entire house... And threatening several times to '' bring in the k9 crew'' I was like... Bring it on.. I was angry... No dogs showed up but after about 45 minutes they came across a bud of weed about the size of my thumbnail in a drawer.... I was handcuffed and taken to jail and my boyfriend was set free because it was My house and even though the weed was his... It was on my property.... So I got beat up by my x.. Then raided by the police whom I thought were there to protect me.... Then arrested handcuffed and booked... I fought it and tge charge was reduced to disturbing the peace.... So fucked up.. I've never again in 8 years... See cops as protecting and serving... Lost total faith... Id like to mention I had no prior record besides a dui from ten years before when I was just 21...my boyfriend had a long rap sheet...

The moral of the story: Under normal circumstances a warrant is required for any kind of police search, but this rule is void if you consent so *DON’T DO IT.*
@WTF Kyle because nothing good can come of it. You don't set yourself up to be jammed up by some dishonest cops. The following conversation actually took place between a police officer and myself while walking down the road, high. Officer: Hi, how are you doing today? Me: I'm fine, officer, how about yourself? O: I'm fine. We have a report of a burglary committed by someone that fits your description. M: That's not good. O: I'm going to need to see your ID I obliged O: Would you have anything to do with it? M: No, Officer. O: Do you mind if I look in your bag for any items that may have been stolen? I had a bowl in my bag. M: I'm sorry, Officer, but I do not consent to any searches. O: It's just to clear your name as a suspect. M: I'm sorry, Officer, I'm not consenting to any searches. O: What do you have to hide? M: I respectfully decline to answer any more questions without a lawyer present. Am I being detained, or am I free to go, Officer? O: Have a good night. M: You as well, Officer, I hope you find him. Then I left. Could have been arrested for the paraphernalia had I let him search my bag. There was also never any article in the newspaper about a burglary that night.
I was once stopped at a bus stop by police in the late evening. Was fully cooperative. They checked my ID, then thoroughly searched me, including every bit of my purse. Then they interrogated like why am I being here at this time in the part of the town where I don't live. I had to explain everything and was very stressed. Couldn't imagine that I'd have to give them reasons for simply exercising the freedom of movement. It can get very intimidating if you start answering questions. I was totally clean and sober. They let me go, but it was pretty stressful. So drawing a line to interrogation and searching would be probably a better option.
Love the "Report Misconduct". Unfortunately, I've run into a situation where I was LITERALLY turned away from 3 precincts when trying to file a report. I was held in my car for 1 hour 42 minutes with 6 squad cars surrounding me. I didn't get a ticket and I explained why I was parked where I was (legally, keys out of my ignition). I was writing a sympathy card to my best friend who owned the home and had just lost her father. Apparently, a neighbor didn't recognize my car and called 9-1-1. I was polite. Had no weapons. Handed over my DL even though I didn't have to b/c I was not driving. I'm also a grandmother who is white but drive what I was told is a gangster car(?). I doubt many gangsters are driving around in school bus yellow coupes, but whatever. They wanted to search my car. I asked why. "We just do." I said no. I think the young female officer who arrived first called for backup for some reason. After all the other officers came with lights flashing, it seemed she started looking for any thing to "get me on". I asked several times if I could leave my car and go into my friends house. Nope. I was told I was NOT detained BUT their police cars literally had me pinned in and they wouldn't move for 1 hour and 42 mins. One officer stayed leaning on my door to keep me from opening it and getting out. I had bare the brunt of a young officer being over zealous I went to the appropriate precinct to file a complaint and got the rum around and sent to two other locations. At the third place, I was sent back to the first precinct. If this is how they treat an old grandmother they find fully and legally parked writing in a sympathy card, I can't imagine how they treat young minorities. This little yellow convertible was my mid-life crisis car, I suppose. After the above happened, I got pulled over once every 3-4 months -- never cited. Three years ago, I got a vanity plate that is "LAWRUP" and haven't had a single stop since.
One thing he should have said DO NOT move your hands out of the sight of the officer withought letting him know what you are doing first. Cop - License, Registration and Insurance You - Officer my license and insurance cards are in my back right pocket in my wallet and my Registration is in the glove compartment which would you prefer I get you first? ( NO ATTITUDE )
This is true. When I'm pulled over--especially at night--for mine and the officer's safety I turn on the cabin light & place my hands either on the wheel or ceiling and. I always tell them what I do before I move, "My insurance is in my glovebox." before rifling through it. Also, unfortunately, many people who act super defensive and watch these videos typically are trying to get away with something...lol.
Rule 1. Be polite and calm. Rule #2. Wear a smart phone chest holster with your smart phone in the middle of your chest that you activate with a voice command which then automatically records video and audio of your interaction with the police and automatically stores it in the cloud. This is your best first defense.
If you're in a vehicle, a rearview mirror cam and dash cam are enough to record you. Also, you're allowed to whip out your phone and record a police encounter while an officer is on duty. If you're in a state that has private citizen consent laws, then you'll need to announce to bystanders that you're recording an incident, so that legally you're protected from being accused of filming people without their awareness. Otherwise, an officer is not legally allowed to stop you recording or to take your phone from you. They might try to claim obstruction of justice, but you're well within your rights to keep recording and to let the officer know that if in fact you are obstructing, the video will act as evidence of that fact. The officer knows full well that a judge will throw out the "obstruction" excuse, bc it doesn't hold water. Stand your ground, but do not resist if things do escalate, as your safety is an absolute priority. Make sure you have an app that stores deleted videos or photos in a secret backup folder, in case an officer tries to confiscate your phone and erase any evidence within it. An automatic backup to a cloud is also another option, but just be sure to consider having an app as backup, bc clouds can fail to upload or may not be able to save any data if memory is full.
Other rules include: Nothing is "Off the Record," Police lie all the time and claim stuff is off the record when it's not, Police can legally lie to you saying they have a warrant or probable cause when they don't, and yes, the police are specifically looking for trouble (makes it easier to give you an arrest or citation). Don't give it to them. Also, the "good cop/bad cop" dichotomy is a tactic itself. One cop will specifically act warm and friendly to gain your trust and cooperation as well as to distract you, while the other will be up to something and/or waiting for their moment to intimidate or arrest you. Cops never betray each other, and sometimes 1 cop alone will take on both roles to throw you off. Remember this is a game to them, and especially in poor areas, cops sometimes challenge each other on who can write the most citations, make the most arrests, or pull the most people over.
@@danielhoward8354 Oh of course, not doubting that. This is more during interrogation, when one cop pretends to turn off a recording device and then goes, "this is off the record." You as the detainee/arrestee are NEVER off the record.

It is absurd that we are the ones who need to calm down (some) law enforcement officers.
So I noticed a few things here that weren’t mentioned. When the guy gets pulled over (in the “good” example: 1. Doesn’t keep his hands in sight and on the steering wheel. 2. Makes sudden movements when reaching for his ID/Licence. 3. Reaches behind his back to pull his shirt up when he steps out the car door. 4. Stands with his hands behind his back while speaking to the police officer. I’ve seen enough cop videos to know people have been shot by twitchy cops for much less than that. ALWAYS keep your hands in view and make slow, calm movements.
Furtive movements police call it. AKA you reach for waistband you die usually used to defend themselves against unlawful shootings. Or the fear for your life examples etc.
Think this needs an update mentioning this because it's been the cause of ALOT of shootings. Even if your innocent and did nothing wrong. (This doesn't matter to them) Cops are gangsters but legal. Remember they have been found to be in them.
"Officer, am I being detained?" "No, citizen, you are not being detained." "Officer, am I free to go?" "No, citizen, you are NOT free to go." "So, officer, I am being detained." "No, citizen, you are NOT being detained, but you are NOT free to go!" WHAT???????
detain is a step away from arrest, free to go is about the situation. the way the comment is made it can seem confusing but it what about this: there's a robbery, you match the description. You may not be detained but aren't free to go till the officer can clear your involvement, which can be as simple as finding the actually robber. (walterrific had this happen, he was stopped for matching description, he wasn't free to go but was never detained)
@@Kipple-wp7pd No. If you are not free to go, you ARE being detained. If you are not being be detained, you MUST be free to go, or you ARE being detained. To say otherwise makes no sense! You can't "resist arrest" if you are NOT being detained!!!
I want to say thank you to you Mr. Murphy, a few years ago I came across this video. A few weeks later my sister was driving me somewhere and we were pulled over. Even though my sister is six years older than I am she freaks out when authority is in her face. He told my sister that he had pulled her over because our license plate was missing. I informed him that the license plate was on the dash and since we had gotten into a wreck it was a little bent but we were told by another cop it was alright. He told me to shut up and that he wasn't speaking to me, I respectively told him that he didn't need to be rude. He then pulled his gun from the holder and told us to get out of the car, he then told my sister that he would be going through the car. I told him that he had no reason to do so and that and he did not have permission. I asked him if we were detained and if we could leave. He decided to tower over me and told me to sit down and shut up so he could speak with the adult. I repeated that he did not need to be rude and if we were allowed to leave. Through this all my sister was freaking out and shaking because a very tall big man stood over us with his weapon pulled. The whole thing was very scary but with your rules I was able to handle the situation in a way that we were able to get out of there without getting our car torn apart. So thank you very much :)

But you raise an interesting point, you have made a false statement which you believe is true because you based it on the perceived power of said government. You have been brain washed into believing the government is so mighty that it could not only find, but also track and arrest the poster of a message within an hour. They are not that powerful, not even close. But, they are trying to become that powerful. They want 24/7 surveillance of absolutely everything, and it's getting close, but this is why we're waking up and seeing that it is in fact a police state and doing everything we can to reverse the tides of this degenerative change.

As a police officer, I have to say this is actually a good video. Nothing wrong with the public knowing their rights, I encourage it. If I have a legal right to be there and Im doing my job within the confines of the law and my training then I am not violating your rights either way.
Sorry about those three other idiots. I respect your opinion and i am glade to see there are some good people still in the force. I hope you two earn promotions to one day train and lead other officers and spread your ideals.
Robert Graham Everything's about money. Being a police officer is a job, of course they do it for the money, but they don't get payed extra every time they stop someone. Whatever your job is, you're probably doing it for the money as well. But I've hear several police officers that say they do it to help people as well as for the money. They think of it as killing two birds with one stone. You get to help people, and you get payed for it.

Refusing random searches might be difficult in other countries, but I think the moral principle behind the idea is universal.
This video is very informative and helpful and I will definitely try to remember these tips, but it still doesn't solve the question "why do we have to act this way in the first place?" I'm second generation Japanese-American. I visit Japan every 2-3 years due to all my relatives residing there. There's a 180 degree difference on how Japanese police treat the public and how citizens treat the police. I've been stopped before by a Japanese officer because I flicked my cigarette butt. He said "I'm very sorry for the intrusion, but you cannot flick cigarette butts. It's against the law. I'm sorry may I see your ID?" An officer in the states would've said something like "HEY! Why did you do that? You didn't see me standing there? Show me your ID!" I said I don't have a Japanese ID but I do have my US driver's license and passport (he then looked a little confused because I speak fluently and look 100% Japanese). He checked them and asked me what I was doing in Japan. After his very polite police interrogation, he gave me a 5min lecture on how cigarettes are bad for you and that he used to be a smoker. The encounter ended him asking if I knew my way back to my aunt's condo. To me he was the textbook example on how police officers should approach and treat the public. He never gave me an order, he asked. I know police officers in other countries act like this too. Police in the US really needs to learn from other countries.
The answer to your question is right in your post "and how citizens treat the police" People are terrible to US Police officers all the time: they waste time asking stupid questions they already know the answers to, they refuse to provide their identification, they argue, they lie, they act like a-holes, and they try to kill the police officers just so they don't have to go to jail.
@@crand20033 Tell me; how does it make more sense to be more unnecessarily rude and disrespectful to people you think are more likely to be armed? :) The problem with U.S. police cannot be blamed on the general population.
Wait, so when I was in my sophomore year in high school, the cops had me turn out my pockets, answer questions without a guardian or lawyer present, and I could have refused that? That's messed up.

Do you hear about white teens getting killed by the police ? Or you girls getting arrrested improprerly mistreated ? Have you personally ever been harrased by police ? I have ! So if I had MIXED nieces and nephews I would ! It’s no way I can have white nieces an nephews because I’m black and my family is black !and if someone was to adopt a white child then YES they will he shown this too , because they’ll be getting raised in a environment around most black people and they will be around black People so they need to learn and understand too . I’m confused on why showing my nieces and nephews a video on how to comply with the police correctly bothered you !
R Cruz stop acting like you don’t understand the issue between black people and cops if you read anything that I said then you would some what have a different outlook . You was being asshole when you asked what how to conform ? When you know why I said my black nieces and nephews. Just from having been a janitor in a police station I know that not all the police are angels. I had a levi gene jacket that I forgot at the end of the work day. When I went to work the next day, I expected to see it on the coat hanger, but it was gone. It had been stolen. It was not left in the public area either. I told the sergeant and we looked in the evidence locker, but it was not in there. The sergeant was very embarassed and said some of the worst thieves he has ever seen have been cops. I did not complain to the lieutenant; I figured he would not like the lowly janitor saying bad things about his precinct, and have me fired.. The trouble with the police is that they are just as human as the people they ticket and arrest. There were a few other things that happened that made me feel an ambivalence about the poiice I figure that obeying the law is a good way of passive resistance, and hopefully will minimize the the chances of being put under the thumb of inferiors.
david caldwell such a mature and intelligent response to such shitty circumstances. I'm sorry that happened to you 😔 but you handled that very well I would've lost it
YES< I have seen, as a bail bondsman earlier in life, how "administrative" officers routinely steal from citizens, usually incarcerated over minor traffic crap. THEY, however, are ALL Corrupt.
Why do you think that Police lockers have pad locks on them?! Don't leave any gear in a patrol car after your shift for it will be "stolen" even with my Name and ID Number burned onto it (a personally bought nightstick). Cops are the biggest thieves around! -Retired Deputy Sheriff.
If a motorist is stopped by police and then refuses consent to search, please explain what the motorists next move or lines are when the cop says:" Ok, you refuse the search. So I am going to summon a drug-sniffing dog to do a "free air" sniff around your car. You are not free to go. The canine unit is being summoned but it will take 3 hours to get here because of another call." Can a cop threaten to keep me waiting for 3 hours? How does the line, "Am I being detained, or am I free to go," how does that line work now? Can he legally keep me waiting for three hours? What's the motorists next move now?
You cannot be detained indefinitely. First thing you do is clock the detainment (keep track of the time it starts and ends). The second thing you do is verbally request they locate and present a superior officer and then you yourself call for one.
Rule #11, NEVER go to the station to try filing a complaint! All that's likely to happen is you're given the run-around, and from that point on the cops will make it a point to harass or even outright terrorize you... even going so far as to arrest you on false charges!
It is best to retain an attorney and have that lawyer file the complaint for you. Police are well known for retaliation against citizens who complain. However, they are scared of lawyers, and if they know you are associated with an attorney, they will back off.
I never trust the police. I even dumped a girlfriend for becoming a police officer. I parted ways with a friend for becoming a police officer. I'm on the straight and narrow and don't trust the police. My ex girlfriend and ex friends behavior changed dramatically after becoming cops. My girlfriend was asking me questions like she was interrogations....."what's that in your pocket?" "Where are you going?" "Where were you at 6:00?" ECT. It was crazy!
LOL I was younger then and was juggling 3-4 different girls at once. I told her when we met I was young and wasn't looking for anything serious. I DID care about other peoples feelings and was kind to all of them.
Maybe you just have no sense of humor....another SERIOUS topic blown out of topic by some loser troll, who's only recollections are of the word J.O.K.E. You also cannot tell sarcasm! No wonder you can't get a date....You go to the $1.00 theatre! LOL
Also I recently had an encounter with the police, They were accusing me of me of something I did not do. I knew I couldn't talk my way out of it. I said I was going to retain legal counsel , and the matter was dropped a couple of weeks later. Thanks for the tip.
@@jamie91995 It's hard to remain cool and calm, when you got 2 cops yelling in your face, and they were irate when i said, I'm getting a lawyer, but no charges were brought.
Hey Billy Murphy, Haven't heard that name in awhile. Thank you for giving our brothers some good and valuable information to help save their lives. God Bless You.
I've noticed in other youtube videos people asking the officer if they were being detained or if they were free to go and the officers just ignored the question and just didn't say anything at all. What can you do when that happens? Can you take that as a no, you're not being detained and leave? or do you still have to stay?
Be compliant as he said, one of the other rules said don't run away. If they don't answer and you just walk away then your giving them probably cause of suspicion. The more the officer does that is against the law, the worse off it is for them when you say "I'd like to talk a lawyer" and the more likely you will win the case because the officer did not follow the law, their training, or the proper guidelines that are set for them. It's the same thing they said as where he said "I do not consent to search" and the officer did that anyways, he just committed something illegal in theory, your lawyer now has something strong to use against the officer if things do escalate. For something that never actually happened.
1. Don't be nervous or hostile in any way. Just stay calm and keep your hands on the steering wheel. 2. Record everything that is happening, have a dashcam in your car. 3. Don't ever pull your window low enough so the cop can reach in to your car. 4. Always show your license and registration. If you need to reach your glove box, always give a heads up to the cop. 5. Don't ever answer a single question, state your right to remain silent. Demand a lawyer if you're under arrest. 6. Refuse the cop to search your car, he/she need a warrant or probable cause. 7. Ask if you're free to leave. If not, ask if you're being detained. 8. Never expose yourself. Don't say anything if you absolutely don't need to. 9. If you are under arrest, ALWAYS COMPLY!!! Your life depend on it. The most important thing is that you're the one doing the right thing. Don't ever give the cop a reason to hurt you. 10. Report the misconduct and use the footage as evidence. And just an extra tip: Never assume all cops are bad if you happen to encounter one or multiple bad cops. They're not all evil. Believe it or not, but they do exist to protect citizens, including yourself.
Cops, real cops, actually do act in real life, and yes there acting may be as bad as a sales rep in a clothing store who says hi to you like they've known you all their life. Too many people fall for the Good Cop friendly banter. If there weren't schmucks in the world the cops would different tactics. People who are friendly are people I never trust. You don't have to be friendly with a real friend, and you don't have to say thank you when they let you borrow their car. Friends don't need to use these verbal contrivences. Too friendly = what do you want from me. They go after the low hanging fruit. Most Bankers on Wall Street get off with a bribe, I mean a fine. How long did it take for the serial rapist Bill Cosbey to go to jail. And what about the Catholic Church child abuse scandal that has lasted over 2000 years, and is what inspired the Marque De Sade to write his novels which would be considered child pornography if they weren't of historical, cultural, educational value; and a part the Western Cannon of Literature. You can't stop history from happening. That was two senstences ago.
Let's see here, an officer can LIE to you but you can't lie to them, and if you do, you face severe punishment and jail. Meanwhile, the officer can utilize his/her lies that they told to you and can be used against you in a court of law. So in essence, an officer can commit perjury and file false statements about you and ruin your life without any repercussions. But in court, the officer takes an oath stating his reports are true. Not only is this not only a conspiracy on the officers part, it also nullifies ANY oath that officer has ever taken. Criminal acts committed by an officer "upholding" the "law". The law is so damned lawless. What a damned joke. No accountability whatsoever. But the "law" wants everyone else to be law abiding citizens. Don't do as they do, just do as we say. Freedom? From what? Your not free, we have ALL been enslaved to CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!!!!
+Totino's Other Boy I'm glad you finally found yourself and accepted your faults........it's the first step in recovery from ignorance. You see as a rule, when someone such as yourself judges someone they don't even know, the accuser is the one who is actually guilty of what they are accusing the other. Think about it........................😂😂😂
You just proved my point with your pathetic little snarky comment. I don't have to know you, I can look at multiple of your shitty TH-cam comments and make a pretty accurate assumption about you.
+Totino's Other Boy No need to cry big boy. But I do thank you for envying me enough to read all my comments. I will take that as a fine compliment. Thank you! P.S.- I see your face is turning red, you might want to lay off of the crack! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This guy says don't assert your right to ask for a name and badge number because it will piss them off! WTF! Always get their names and badge numbers so that they know they are accountable.
tradecenter7 He just said don't ask them for it. But you don't have to ask them for it. Usually cops will have name tags on their shirt which should say their name and badge number so you could look at their tag.
Call the Communications Center, they can tell you all the officers who responded to your residence, or just make the complaint, and the Supervisor will get a printout of the call with all Officers who were present at the call. They will usually know already the offending officers, if they are a good supervisor. But, there is usually two sides to every story though. :)
@10:20 Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is incorrect. From my understanding, you must invoke your right. To simply remain silent doesn't set in to motion the effects that invoking your right does.
I got rolled up on after a night jog before driving home. Right when the cop said “you seem nervous” I immediately asked “can I go?” He said “we’re just talking”. I said “goodnight!” N carefully peeled tf outta there lol
"They can't come in without a warrant", but if they do have one. MAKE SURE IT"S REAL!!! Not just some copy they made on a copier! They do that shit! AKA wet ink signature.
This is one of the best videos I have seen on this. Be polite and cooperative, but it's also important to know your rights. Too many people either go to one extreme or the other. They are complete jerks to police and end up creating unnecessary problems for themselves. And then you have other people who are far too cooperative. They make incriminating statements or consent to searches when they shouldn't. As for showing an ID, just show your ID if asked. That's not the hill you want to die on. My bank teller requires an ID. I'm not going to be worried about showing it to a cop. But definitely file a complaint concerning misconduct. As for them coming to door, you might want to answer to find out what they want. But don't invite them in unless you need their assistance, and don't consent to a search. And be very careful about what questions you answer. If they are trying to interrogate you or are trying to accuse you of a crime, exercise your fifth amendment rights and end the conversation. If the police enter without your consent, don't resist them. But make it clear you are not giving consent. If you are uncertain whether they have the legal right, this might help you later in court. Evidence illegally obtained can be thrown out.

Just for everyone's information, rule 1 isn't actually law. You can use profanity and rude language all you want, it's not illegal. Its just ill-advised.
Ill-advised, check.
Not everywhere... Some localities have it on the books that inflammatory language is construed as assault.

The following conversation actually took place between a police officer and myself while walking down the road, high.
Officer: Hi, how are you doing today?
Me: I'm fine, officer, how about yourself?
O: I'm fine. We have a report of a burglary committed by someone that fits your description.
M: That's not good.
O: I'm going to need to see your ID
I obliged
O: Would you have anything to do with it?
There was also never any article in the newspaper about a burglary that night.
goddamned government, so now bowls are illegal too? first the plates, then the pots and now the bowls smh
Matthew Carty Little did you know, it was the police officer that robbed the house and was trying to trick you 😉
that was beautiful.
Can the cops do that, come up with a fake burglary report just to trap you in?
I had bare the brunt of a young officer being over zealous

DO NOT move your hands out of the sight of the officer withought letting him know what you are doing first.
Cop - License, Registration and Insurance
You - Officer my license and insurance cards are in my back right pocket in my wallet and my Registration is in the glove compartment which would you prefer I get you first? ( NO ATTITUDE )
This is true. When I'm pulled over--especially at night--for mine and the officer's safety I turn on the cabin light & place my hands either on the wheel or ceiling and. I always tell them what I do before I move, "My insurance is in my glovebox." before rifling through it. Also, unfortunately, many people who act super defensive and watch these videos typically are trying to get away with something...lol.

+R Kurtz Great point by you and Levi below.
Oh, I was going over 100 mph? Oh, oh, I'm going to jail.
Rule 1. Be polite and calm. Rule #2. Wear a smart phone chest holster with your smart phone in the middle of your chest that you activate with a voice command which then automatically records video and audio of your interaction with the police and automatically stores it in the cloud. This is your best first defense.
nobody’s gonna do that lmao
@@quinn1166 right they thought they ate
@@quinn1166 its a joke
It's better to have a dual dash cam instead.
That’s disgusting abuse of power
Thank you.
SURE there is stuff off the record but only what they want to leave off
@@danielhoward8354 Oh of course, not doubting that. This is more during interrogation, when one cop pretends to turn off a recording device and then goes, "this is off the record." You as the detainee/arrestee are NEVER off the record.

It is absurd that we are the ones who need to calm down (some) law enforcement officers.
The problem is.... We the people have to prove that we are innocent, when it's supposed to be the State or government to prove your guilty
Your statement will prove more so evident as the US moves more and more to fascism!
So I noticed a few things here that weren’t mentioned.
When the guy gets pulled over (in the “good” example:

So thank you very much :)
what sucks is that innocent people have to fear police and if we make a simple mistake or get upset, we could die. it's really messed up.
The sad thing is that this video is important.

To all participants involved Thank you for producing this video!! It is very informative about exercising my rights. To know these rules are as important ever these days, so y’all are providing a very appreciated civil service. So good on ya’!!
one rule to remember cops are not there to become your friend, take the 5th.
You can't if someone else is standing right next to you accusing and pointing the finger you.
What’s the fifth?
Every teacher in every public school system should be required to show this to every single graduating class, it would help prevent alot of mishaps
Might better to start in middle school, with repeat viewing of the videos every single year. A course required to graduate. Sad; we don't teach civics in this country anymore, and that is why the GQP now can lie with impunity, and the mass of people are ignorant of how government works.
Still shouldn't be a police state. Why are cops allowed to harass you. And where is their punishment if they didn't honor your rights.
+Bob Farrell you have no clue what a POLICE STATE is
+R Kurtz If he lives in America (especially the east or west coast) he knows a police state very well.

R Kurtz Even people in North Korea get on the deep web.

As a fellow officer, I agree wholeheartedly.
Sorry about those three other idiots. I respect your opinion and i am glade to see there are some good people still in the force. I hope you two earn promotions to one day train and lead other officers and spread your ideals.

Everything's about money.
***** Thank you for being one of the good guys. I hope you spread your ideals.
Wrong, fella, WHEN DOES IT OCCUR TO ANY OF YOU THAT IF YOU KNOW THAT 99% OF CITIZENS TO NOT KNOW THE LAW, AND YOU DO, WHAT GIVES YOU THE MORAL RIGHT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM, THEIR IGNORANCE. WHY WON'T ANY OF YOU TAKE THE HIGH ROAD AND INFORM CITIZENS OF THEIR RIGHTS? WHY DO YOU THINK IT'S OK TO LIE, AND NOT BE PROSECUTED FOR IT, WHILE A CITIZEN IS?
THESE are some Primary reasons why 70% of Citizens despise and distrust you. YOU Earn it. QUIT abusing citizens personally, constitutionally, and morally, and then you will earn our trust. Your lying and violence is pissing everyone off to the extent that you had better haul ass out of the country, once the shit flies. I give that another 2-10 years. Do yourself a favor, read professor James Duane's book, "you have the right to be innocent".
Thx for the advice. Will look it up.

Because he knows most people in Japan don't have guns so you are no threat to him. In America, there are more guns than people.
No training for cops here in the USA. In England, TWO YEARS of training!

Technically you would be being detained for further investigation.

LOL I was younger then and was juggling 3-4 different girls at once. I told her when we met I was young and wasn't looking for anything serious. I DID care about other peoples feelings and was kind to all of them.
Quinn Machado
Yeah.. That's real chivalrous of you, Don Juan.
@Andrew Curley.
All said and done.....the only thing you picked up on was my joking comments! Did you learn anything? Or just a hater troll?
Quinn Machado
I read your "joke," but I didn't find it funny. Maybe you should work on your delivery.
Maybe you just have no sense of humor....another SERIOUS topic blown out of topic by some loser troll, who's only recollections are of the word J.O.K.E.
You also cannot tell sarcasm!
Did you learn ANYTHING about the police? Or are you just a joke?
Like I said.....I'm a Respectful playa.....$3.50 for corn & Pop??? Damn!
"They're kinda' like a legal condom. Say 'em with me!" "Legal Con- I'm going to remain silent. I'd like to see a lawyer."
It's like a condom in that you're probably still going to get fucked, but you'll have a degree of protection.
No it's not, not if the actual perpetrator who attacked you is right next you to pointing the finger at you.
Hey Billy Murphy, Haven't heard that name in awhile. Thank you for giving our brothers some good and valuable information to help save their lives. God Bless You.
Surprising that the cop didn;t plant something in his car or on his person like they often do.
it has happened
This is a good video, I recommend this for everyone. Thanks for showing this video.
Legend has it he still that cop still has that dude's License and registration 🤣🤣
For real? ...........lol
Very informative, certainly changed my perspective
And just an extra tip:
Never assume all cops are bad if you happen to encounter one or multiple bad cops. They're not all evil. Believe it or not, but they do exist to protect citizens, including yourself.
Man this shit is real. God bless whoever made this. Word to moms. To all my peoples, just do what you're supposed to.
GIve it an "A" for production value. A "D" for the acting and a "C" for the cheese.
Underrated comment
@Eric Wesson 1-800-Boris Law LOL
@@robishere7339 Wall Street gets off with bribes...I mean fines...😂😂😂
Best quote of the day!!
This video is for ignoramuses.
Here, we have a pretentious pseudo intellectual.
There are plenty of case where uniformed cops lied to people trying to get a confession.
Thank you! Stick around awhile, you might actually learn something from someone who is much, much wiser than you......................
I think everyone should watch this. Especially BLM and inner city youth.
Wow
30:04 longest chain i have ever seen on a door! Lol
I know it was all for the camera but, its funny
