It wasn't a great performance, it was great opportunism (for the second goal). Ronaldo's performance against Atletico in the 2017 first-leg was genuinely excellent, but Madrid's midfield were the stars in this final.

Besides a few matches, Ronaldo in 2017 was kinda overrated
46 games… 42 goals (his worst goal to game ratio in his career at Real Madrid)
He wasn’t consistent anymore at scoring in each game (rather scoring 2 or 3 goals in a few matches)
He could no longer shoot from long distances and his dribbling looks so baggy, slow, and unathletic
People say that 2016 - 2018 (after his knee injury) was his goal scoring prime, however, he didn’t even score the numbers of goals he used too and he degraded his ability to play.
He was no longer that fast, powerful, explosive, goal scoring, and skillful player he once used to be at Real Madrid.
I know that Ronaldo changed his play style due to a knee injury in 2014 and he was still better than 95 percent of players in the world. But I can’t believe people can call 2017 Ronaldo his prime, overrated season.

Just to clarify, people mention the knee injury yet they never explain why it would hinder his dribbling. Any kind of patellar tendinopathy is most inflamed during the leaping and landing phase of a jump (hence why the condition is called "jumper's knee") - Ronaldo made virtually the same number of dribbles in 2014/15 as he did in 2012/13; what did go up were his headed goals and aerial duals, which is the opposite of what you'd expect if he had chronic tendinosis - and you certainly would not celebrate with a power-stance leap.

Interceptions, duals, distance covered, passes into final third, long-range key passes, throughballs, forward passes + KEY forward passes, pass accuracy, chance creation...all leading midfielders in this respect (except for Messi as a non-conventional playmaker) in Europe domestically and especially in CL didn't represent Barcelona in the 2010s or the CR7-LM10 era...many did play for Madrid (see Opta, CraqueStats, 5-30-8, etc.)

CR7 was never a great footballer, he was offensively a very effective footballer because of his athleticism and versatility but with the ball at his feet, he's a percentage-player without velcro close-control, playmaking or accurate shooting (shots-per-goal, xG, conversion rate). The GOAT argument is a little silly though because goalkeepers and spine players are more important in tournament football than superstars, as much as people are seemingly oblivious to that.

Deduct headers and penalties, he has 150 fewer open-play goals-on-the-ground than Messi (which puts him closer to Lewandowski, Suarez than Messi considering goals- per-game) despite taking around 1500 more ground-shots in his career. (No player in recorded football history has taken more ground-shots than Ronaldo - he has taken at least TWICE as many shots as anyone who has featured in the EUROS since 1980; his shooting accuracy xG never ranked inside the top 100 in Europe during the Messi-Ronaldo era! Messi never ranked outside the top 10.)
He always relied on pace and stamina on the wing to carry the ball because he lacked the close-control to penetrate Zone 14 (and even out on the wing, someone like Kingsley Coman has much better dribbling stats), and his passing accuracy is below 80% despite making fewer forward passes than Lewandowski (never mind Benzema, or actual number 10s).
Amazing athlete - possibly the best all-round athlete the game has seen (tall and strong, speed, stamina, vertical power), probably the best counter-attacking wide-player of all time...but he's not a football genius like the Brazilian Ronaldo was, for example, and if other players had the same shoot-on-sight policy, many would have similar numbers.
