It is not only the sound that Lindsey produces it is the way the sound is produced. Lindsey tickles the hell out of his strings and all done without a pick. Whatever awards there are Lindsey should receive at least one in every category. As far as Fleetwood Mac - there is no FM without LB! Think of it, his tremendous guitar playing, his terrific singing, his music production and all the while having to put up with a short, pudgy mono tone singer. It was Lindsey who got Stevie into Fleetwood Mac - it was Stevie who got Lindsey ousted from FM. Congratulations Lindsey for getting the much deserved Les Paul award.
Lindsey deserves so much!!...Largely overshadowed by Stevie which he has at times struggled to accept knowing he is the true force behind Fleetwood Macs success from the late 70's onwards. This man is without doubt one of the greatest guitarist of all time, he is certainly up there with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Peter Green. Where Lindsey leaves the competition behind is in sheer number of songs that are just pure quality and his staying power. Justin Bieber??...Whose He?????
Thank you so much for sharing this recording of Lindsey being recognized as the person and presence he is, I believe he is a true artist and am always amazed by how humble he is about his talent and his ability to communicate through the medium of music. I have always been touched by Lindsey's reaction to applause and praise, he touches his own heart, like he has touched the hearts of so many people. And to see others use that expression of sincere gratitude, it is amazing.
The man is a genius and is without doubt the greatest guitar player in the world for me, part of a fantastic group of people that changed the face of music and are still doing it. I would love to meet him and Stevie Nicks but would be at a loss as to what to say to these fantastic people. They have brought such joy to peoples lives.
It might help to understand the stated purpose of the Les Paul Award: "It was created in 1991 to honor individuals that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of recording technology." Note that the word 'guitar' is not mentioned so comparing *playing* skills of recipients misses the point. For example, in 1997 Les himself handed the award to Stevie Wonder. Les is most famous as a guitarist, but had deep skills and appreciation for the recording process. He pioneered multi-track and other technology that we now take for granted.
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment it is really appreciated. My point is very few people have heard of Lindsey Buckingham nor Christine Mcvie for that matter, both absolutely amazing musicians but most people you will say these names to will just look at you with a blank face especially in the UK, yet say Eric Clapton and instantly people know him including the younger generations, and I don't get that because to me Lindsey is superior both in playing and songwriting
I have seen some of the very best play live including Eric Clapton and Keith Richards but none of them are as unique and amazing as Lindsey, in my opinion he is the greatest guitarist and possibly the best overall musician ever.
Undoubtedly - Lindsey was an incredible driving force behind that band, and Stevie will be first to admit that in the hands of any other guitarist, "Dreams" would never have been the song it is. That said, Lindsey has put it best about FM: "The whole ended up being greater than the sum of its parts." As far as stardom goes - yes, Stevie overshadowed them all. As far as respect goes - no stone has been unturned in honoring and awarding every member of FM with the accolades they deserve.
every great guitarest has his/her own foot print of a sound like a finger print if you know music you will notice this sound,, i agree with David Edwards, Lindsey buckingham is the worlds best guitarest...!
I wonder if Lindsey cared that when ken came out and they played a Christine song. I know there was the story John Lennon told about the violinist who played him yesterday and he was annoyed because it was a Paul song. It's just interesting to think of the artists perspective when they're trying to be honored.
I love some of Lindsey Buckinghams music and guitar playing but frankly, this is slightly disturbing. He looked very good even a few years before this. He looks very haggard and beat up here, not to mention the (I now have a 16 inch forehead) Art Garfunkel inspired hair style.
he's always come across to me as very sensitive and genuine, and omg what a guitarist and how much passion does he perform with
Bf109D agreed
And he is good-looking.
Just saw Lindsey solo at the Whiskey Roadhouse Aug 31, 2012. Couldn't have been more of a deserving man than Lindsey.
He has a unique sound when he plays, amazing and when he plays you always know it's Lindsey, he sounds like no other!!!❤

Lindsey is so right about making choices over a span of time and looking back afterwards to see if the choices you made were good ones or not......
I have seen some of the very best play live including Eric Clapton and Keith Richards but none of them are as unique and amazing as Lindsey, in my opinion he is the greatest guitarist and possibly the best overall musician ever.
So proud and happy for you. Love to you.😴😍😍😍

Its sad she now has lost all that respect by a majority of fans.
Gracie342 yea she never really gave credit to Lindsey in the first place she is very arrogant and always has been

Does Lindsey still have that white '74 Gibson he played from '74-'78? I love the sound he got from that guitar in that time period!

Lindsey Buckingham is A Awesome Guitarist.
You are Great , loved the show at Greenfield Lake

I hear you and agree. There is a whiff of the old folks' home here. I feel a little bit like crying.

Not that they didn't honor his legendary skills properly, it's just a thought.
I respect and accept your comment.
Lindsey Buckingham wearing a white suit with that White Les Paul custom axe.
Nobody ever looked cooler.
@TheLordRiddler me too!
You are a master
3 months to work on a live album????? Just HOW MUCH Of the Dance was overdubbed?????
Haha, if only there were more people like you on the internet...
Believe it or not, I had no idea Colbie Caillat was the daughter of Ken!
Changing the Strings every half hour? Rather excessive. I cannot see the value in changing them with that frequency or was he joking?
Not a word from Lindsey about Les.
Shh..shh.. its okay Danny Kirwan didnt get one either so i agree, quite sacreligious ;p
Amazing, He is so wordy! haha
