Well after watching many many MANY interviews and documentaries on or of Bergman I was going to give thIs a miss based upon this feeling I had that it would be digging for scandal and misdemeanour due to his well-documented character flaws. From the trailer it looks quite harmless. It also looks very American.....the trailer does anyway. Is there no subject matter that can’t be trailed without orchestral booms and drum hits? It looks like a corporate attempt to sell Bergman to people who know little about him. I probably know too much about him already. I know about his bad stomach and his Marie biscuits, is that a sign I know too much maybe? H’mmmm still undecided whether to bother. I’m happy enough with the Liv and Ingmar documentary and the Ingmar Makes A Movie film....and several others. In other words I don’t think this has been made for me but a different kind of movie buff.
