The way you blend stories, wisdom, and teachings makes learning about Buddhism both engaging and transformative.

This seems like a story. Is it the Dhamma? I don’t recognize it. It is not structured like a Pali Canon discourse, but it could be from a later tale.

Thank you for your thoughtful observation! It’s always enriching to reflect on the sources and their interpretations. 🙏

Is it even possible to genuinely regret having been kind?

It us. But the Buddha was addressing true need versus exploitation of a giver by those asking for help. Been in this situation and I have learned the hard way.

@annerfrancis i understand what you mean although I tried to touch upon a different, perhaps more philosophical facet. I am sorry you had to go through difficult experiences. Be well!

What a profound question! Kindness always leaves a lasting ripple, even if it's not immediately clear. 🙏✨

Thanks but pretty obvious western common sense.

Not so. Yeshua preached that we are to give unstintingĺy whenever asked. And we were to have bo Cares for the morrow since the "father in heaven" would provide all our needs.... Right. See Christopher Hitchens comments on Christ's lack of common sense, that he was either evil or demented. Of course, so many of his dictator are ignored in practice by his supposed adherents.
