In interviews, Greg Lake has stated that Carl Palmer called him and asked him to fill-in for Whetton. Greg Lake initially said no, but Carl Palmer talked him into it. Greg Lake had only three weeks to learn all the songs before this show. I love Greg Lake's voice.
It seems to me that Steve was playing the guitar just the way he used to do in those days. His old way was very skillful and extremely precise, but not always comfortable to listen to. I didn't know why, and I found out the reason for the tention that enabled me to relax myself. He was too correct to make me too nervous because I couldn't stop being paying attention to his notes. As grew older, he developed his playing style gradually and began to become free from the preciseness. I often find unexpected tempt, which surprises me and release tention. Today his performance of guitar is far wonderful than it used to be.
Steve Howe was on fire this whole show. Lots to learn from this song alone if you're a guitarist. And this was from when he was very engaging and active onstage during shows.
Greg Lake - one of my real musical heroes - did a very good job on these Japanese shows. However; I've always viewed this as Wetton's gig. I'm glad John eventually came back.
Cool to have onstage the two guys who in 1972 had hit songs on FM radio---"Roundabout" and "From the Beginning"---that opened the same way: deep, low E bass, then G B E plucked high up the fretboard.
AMMMMENNNN brothers n sisters... we were SO BLESSED to have Asia rock our 80s. all geniuses.. Carl Palmer has been my number one influence in my drumming but Steve Howe. STEVE HOWE. HOWE. HOWE. HOWE. eLP meets YES.
I don't know why some are surprised by the replacing Lake-Wetton. This had already happened in KC, but in the opposite direction. Even Wetton in Asia's shows performed KC's songs of the Lake era. Both were masters, neither Lake was imitating Wetton nor Wetton Lake. Both were great artists by their owns.
Big fight, in the band, in fall 1983 ... John Wetton was drinking, and obnoxious .. But the real problem was Steve Howe was upset, at some things, and ... at that time Steve Howe *ruled* ... The manager, Brian Lane was just managing Yes .. >> And he (incorrectly) preceived Howe as the main talent, in the band. Knee-jerk move: Wetton OUT .. We'll just get in another prog singer/bass player; it'll sound fine. ~ It didn't. ... Well it only sounds ok if you've never heard the Wetton-sung original songs.
Hi GUY'S .. This is ASIA ROCK BAND Not ELP ROCK BAND. There is One QUESTION that I can't answer yet why the Original Vocalist was Replaced by GREG LAKE , Where is Mr. JOHN WETTON ?!? By 🎹ESP ♒NE🦁S♊UL ... 👍🤟🙏
Wetton was the superior bassist, no contest on that. Lake does the job, but the dynamics aren't quite the same. In general, though, I do prefer Greg's singing -- though not necessarily on this song. Still, in a pinch, with a tour to do, Greg was about the best of possible substitutes.
@wentkat Greg was awful for Asia's music. Carl was forced by the management to call him and offer him the deal. Management and everybody thought Greg could sing higher, and better than he could (like in the 70s). ... Fail. I like his voice too, check out a song on youtube called "Affairs Of the Heart" ... great ballad.
Oh, I love how through the first half minute Howe does those "Do you believe I'm playing this important stuff?" faces while playing most infantile licks imaginable :)

I think this is one of the songs that fitted Greg's voice very well!
Ditto for Steve..😊
steve howe is one of the best tightest guitar players on this planet earth. simply amazing. and thats all it takes-like stevie.
Pity his guitar sound is so gutless here. It was good on the album but he reverted to that twee sound sadly

Awesome band Awesome song❤️❤️
Definitely my favorite song by them.

I went to this concert and was shocked to find out that John Wetton wasn't there.
One of the most beautiful Albums!
Carl Palmer is an excellent drummer
I like both, John and Greg are greatest voices and is interesting one singing each other
Greg Lake - one of my real musical heroes - did a very good job on these Japanese shows. However; I've always viewed this as Wetton's gig. I'm glad John eventually came back.
Howe extraordinary on guitar , as usual
Damn, videos like this make me wish i had a Minimoog and a Prophet V. Nothing digital compares to that... I am digging Greg's Steinberger as well.
you sound very professional! I really dig it!

RIP John Wetton and Greg Lake

AMMMMENNNN brothers n sisters... we were SO BLESSED to have Asia rock our 80s. all geniuses.. Carl Palmer has been my number one influence in my drumming but Steve Howe. STEVE HOWE. HOWE. HOWE. HOWE. eLP meets YES.

Greg Lake in Asia is a masterpierce, he fits so well..
Love these guys and this song

Great Band. Period!!!
Downe’s solo at 2:47? It is so freaking tasty my lawd!!!
Here Wetton sounds like Greg Lake!
Lol
yep! they are pretty interchangeable!
Tremendo grupo con geniales integrantes
Greg lake on vocals on HERE COMES THE FEELING......I remember there was a falling out before Steve Howe left.....
yeah but you gotta love the Steinberger bass!! Totally want it.
Oh yeah, the man has some very nice basses .... To this day.
@stevewilson20 Uhh, That's because it IS Greg Lake!
yeah I love the Minimoog solo. I'm gonna grab the cd and crank it up! Maybe even upload the song in HQ audio..hey why not
The best progresive band on the planet earth. Miss jhon wetton. Better voice on the band
Ok, it even is Greg Lake
anyone know why Greg was on this tour and not John?

CLASS ! 🤗
Steve Howe is the best!
I wonder if Greg Lake doesn't feel that bad for replacing Wetton in Asia because Wetton replaced Lake in Crimson.
Hardly. Lake only lasted the one concert and then Wetton rejoined the band.

ALP = Asia, Lake and Palmer
Howe Lake and Palmer
@FireLinkAnime Be fortunate that we're young and like ACTUAL music. (im 19 btw)
Lake did ok, but Wetton should have on the stage for this performance.
biff0101 Totally agreed

I NEVER KNEW MIC COULD PLAY GUITAR ...
That isn't John Wheaton right? Did he bow out of the tour.
Wetton
+Will Haskew No it's Greg Lake, as Wetton left the group shortly before, but rejoined again a ew months later.
Did he fall or was he pushed ?
Problems with booze
ホントにasiaは動画が少ない´д` ;
If this is the live broadcast then it sounds to me like they had a few extra backup singers off stage somewhere. Lake is great here.
Mais où se trouvait John Wetton ???
@wentkat Greg was awful for Asia's music. Carl was forced by the management to call him and offer him the deal. Management and everybody thought Greg could sing higher, and better than he could (like in the 70s). ... Fail.

see: In That Quiet Earth.....
Why do I think Wishbone Ash ?
