dude this is literally me. tried to revive a 15 year old laptop with void. lightest setup imaginable, void linux, no systemd, no desktop environment just i3wm, no desktop manager just launch from a tty with startx. its still slow as shit and I can't get anything done on it
Imagine if we could make this boot even faster but cutting a lot of rendering of boot images from it among other things. Imagine if we boot this in less than a second?
@@ianmoore5502 I mean that isn't that bad of an idea. I think we should just fork the Linux kernel and make it the fastest it can get, even if it means things normally available wouldn't be anymore. It would be interesting to see. I think I may actually fork it, I'm not sure.
@MrMasterKeyboard im not in a finicky mood today, But I'm ALWAYS in a design choice mood Would we need to communicate externally somehow that "HEY WE BOOTED BUT RLY FAST AND STUFF HASNT ALL LOADED YET" to other systems???
@@ianmoore5502 also not sure if my last comment went through. It doesn't show up for me. basically, I just thought of a distro prioritising speed with a custom kernel like this to boot faster too. I thought of putting it on git as well under "AFellowSpeedrunner" so others can work on it but I'm not entirely experienced with making a distro apart from using Cubic to modify Ubuntu ISO's. (trying to be vague with where I would put it because I'm sure YT holds certain comments for review if they trigger something, assuming that's what happened with the last one which is REALLY annoying.)
linux users when "revive old hardware"
sis 671 chipset that makes the kernel freeze: hai
That's me

Just install xp or 7 depending on the age. It's not even that bad. And you can run some sick games too.

There SHOULD be an option to maximize boot speed at resource loading costs

Try hibernate and skip all that boot process.
don't even bother yourself to hibernate
Or like, disable the boot tests
Linux users never shutdown their pc
meanwhile my linux laptop boots in like 5 minutes even tho it really shouldnt

Vm tho? Try distrobox at least
distrobox uses the host’s kernel.
