Good morning Kenny, I just watched your video where your Duramax froze up fuel. I’ve been running big truck for 37 years. I always use number two diesel but up here in New York State all your truck fuel stops run what they call cut diesel it’s number two but they cut it with Carol, I also use an additive which is called Howles. I believe it’s HOWELS if you use it regularly and if you freeze up, they guarantee the total bill. My 550 cat ran two big fuel filters. I had 300 gallons of fuel on board and I used Howels faithfully. It could be 25 below zero I never froze up it’s great stuff. Please pardon my spelling and punctuation. Good luck on your travels.
This a very special person who can set aside the worries of the day…like a broken down truck in the middle of nowhere in freezing conditions….and just go for a walk and come back to a pot of homemade soup and declare that “this is the life!” ❤

Ah, the joys of diesel during a MN winter. I hate asking for help too. It's a Midwest thing but sometimes you gotta ask for the help to got-r done. Wild rice soup...solid choice on a cold day. A very true statement. About 6 years ago Hurricane Harvey visited our town. We had a lot of trees down, electric lines down, flooded areas, and a lot of homes damaged. I was so proud of our town. People came together and helped each other out with whatever anyone needed. No one asked for any money. Just People helping people.
When I lived in Hibbing, I had an 01 Ram with the 5.9 in it for a while. Thankfully I had stations in town that sold straight #1. I remember that one year, 06-07, I had like four nights where I wouldn’t shut it off due to -60 temps. I don’t miss driving a furnace, even being in South Dakota now! But I’d quit getting any kind of fuel at Holiday stations. My buddy ran their winter blend in his 7.3 and gelled up every time. Always enjoy your videos Kenny. My dad and I watch every one.

Ah brings back such fond memories Kenny ......LoL! My first twenty work years was truck/ heavy equip. op. We always had a "winter kit" in the trucks...........1 gallon PowerService, 2 extra fuel filters, fuel separator, filter wrench, starting fluid, alcohol for air lines. Our fuel stop supposedly had winterized fuel...........ha-ha. Doing our pretrips in winter included dumping a Qt. of PowerService in each tank otherwise we would freeze up on the road. It still happened but got use to the routine of getting them going again. One thing I would do is put some Powerservice in the new fuel filter and separator before pumping the fuel back up. Question Kenny: Do you keep your rig in a heated building between trips? Another good video Kenny, really enjoyed your evening walk. Your soup looked so good it's a chicken white/wild rice soup tonight.
Thanks! The truck says outside all week. I have a regular 7.5 foot garage door. I have worked on the camper inside a shed on a few videos, but that's at my nephews house.
The reason I asked Kenny was one winter we had access to a underground warehouse that we put the trucks in over the weekends. Going from cold to a warmer environment to the cold again on Mondays was a disaster for condensation. Once again your little heater and the inverter/gen saved the day for you @@KennyOfAllTrades
Thank you again for your adventures. I understand your time is limited. I find solitude in your videos. My sister has been dealing with cancer for 16 years. She’s in stage four with a lot of different health and wellness cycles. She’s been declining more since last June. Your videos and the adventures that you take us all on take us away, sometimes far away, from our daily lives.
Glad she came around and you made it. You considered getting rid of the generator some day if you get new power sources...I'd keep it. It was a hero this trip. Cold does things as you very well know. Take care.
This may sound crazy but while i was in Germany we used to take a propane torch to the oil and gas filters to the generators during winter ! Got to be careful but it always worked ! And I'm talking about the winter months ! Diesel hates the cold !
Thank you Kenny for another suspenseful camping video. You are far braver than I would be. Even as a Minnesota 'boy', you wouldn't find me out there in those temperatures camping. "No, Siree Bob!" Thankfully, "We're havin' a heat wave" 🤣and are up to 32F ! Come on spring!
Hello again, Kenny, two things you might try. First any soup you make, try cooking some bacon and adding it and the drippings to your soup for extra flavor. You don't need much. Years ago, when I had my early Ford F350 with the diesel, I had an old mechanic show me to wrap my filters with an electric battery blanket. I used a 110 volt unit and used an inverter. I could run the inverter from the 12 volts when the truck was running and plug it in to the generator when parked. It never gave off a ton of heat, just enough to keep the temp above gelling the fuel.
I always wear shorts, even in the rain, but, if we have snow, then I MUST put on long pants and I hate that! I dress for MY comfort and strangers see me and they always make rude comments. Hahahaha! 😅 😃 😂
Dang, Kenny...you're handy! I'm pretty sure I know which end of a screwdriver is which, but I wouldn't want to bet on it. Really fun to watch someone who knows what he's doing...another great video. Thanks! ...get that tooth fixed, heh. 🦷
Thank you for letting us know you made it home safe! What an adventure... a nighttime walk in the woods, below zero temps, vehicle issues. Thankfully you were warm and well fed. Can't imagine having locally grown wild rice. What a special treat!
I'm utterly amazed at your abilities 😮, there isn't anything you can't figure out! Wonderful video, beautiful out there even in frigid cold. That soup looked soooo good. Fresh sautéed mushrooms, I'll face plant in that great Minnesota fare. 😊
Great upload other than the truck not working for you, that sucks but it's the classic example of why not to buy a diesel truck. You'd never have that problem with a gas powered engine. Sorry you had that headache while trying to enjoy your weekend Kenny. As always thanks for the video and best wishes for 2024.
First time watcher, and I am so glad to have found you! The calmness in your voice, the way you enjoy everything (even when things break) makes me want to try cold weather camping. Not below freezing, but maybe I'll get there sooner or later. My husband passed away 20 years ago, and I've always tried to be self-sufficient.Thank you for the ideas on fixing gelled up diesel. My little class C isn't as scary to take out in cold weather now! Blessings to you and your family this year!
Wow Kenny, That was a bit of a nail biter. Based on your previous reply to me, I assumed you must have worked it out o.k. Wifey and I were a bit tense watching this. It is really something that you can stay that cool knowing that your truck won't start because of a fuel problem. Especially in temps like you had. I don't think I would be that cool.Good job working it out. If I am understanding correctly it is the place where you are purchasing the fuel that is the issue ?? looking at the size of that turkey leg and the steak you had last week ,it reminded me of something you would see on the Flintstones (Brontosaurus meat). I might start calling you Fred. that soup looked quite tasty.
Yes, I think the issue was the service station. It only happens when I fill up at the holiday. They may be getting water in their underground holding tanks.
Just let it idle and don't shut it off. As a tank commander, we would leave them running 24/7 during cold weather trianing, but I had 300 gallons of diesel too.
Sucks you had to work on your truck besides enjoying your weekend camping.glad you made it home safe..you definitely need to get the fuel problem fixed.thank God you have that little heater..great video.cant wait till next Tuesday.
My husband and I enjoy your videos. I know, I’v seen you do it many times in your video cleaning your kitchen with 409. But I’m a little concerned about you using that on your cutting board. Because the chemicals could seep into the wood. if I could make a suggestion. Take a spray bottle and fill it with white vinegar and water at least 50-50. Maybe 75/25. That’s the old fashion hippie cleaning product. And would be safe to use on your cutting board. In fact, you could use it to clean your entire camper. Just a suggestion. I keep forgetting to look into that smoker that you bought. My husband and I camp a lot and I’m thinking that would be nice for him to try.
Whoa, you were worrying me with this video making it home, but what do I know as a Florida boy. Just came home from camping in upper 30s weather thinking that was cold, LOL.
I keep showing your videos to my wife, trying to convince her that the camping season doesn't have to end on September 30. Maybe we'll keep this one quiet. 😁
Kenny the best helper you can have when breakdowns occur is the knowledge of how it works, as then you know what to do to make it work. You used what you had available to fix the problem and it worked perfectly… That meal you prepared looked really good… Glad you got home safely.
Well shoot Kenny, I couldn't sleep so I started watching youtube and saw your channel and here I am 7 hours later and still watching your channel LOL. Thank you for bringing us with you on your weekend adventures. I'm addicted to camping, off grid and bushcraft channels and thanks to you I have a new subscription added to my list. I noticed on your door frame there is a badge and was wondering if you were a police officer or firefighter you have the personality for either. I hope your channel is very successful and many years of adventures ahead. Thanks from a retired Veteran.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the videos. I kinda get a bit of grief from the bush craft and tent camping community. It really gets under their skin when I say I'm camping. Lol, so I really appreciate you giving my videos a chance. I was a police officer and first responder for years. I left the department in 2022. I now work for the Department of Public Safety in Minnesota. When I left the PD, I was given some momentos. I received a plaque along with a letter of accommodation. I was allowed to keep all my badges and patches. I have the badge above my door to remind me of where I've been and how lucky I am to be out here doing what I love. I don't talk about my career on the channel, but it's something I'm very proud of. Four years ago, I was taking breaks in my squad watching Taylor Dzaman in his truck camper and Chrome in his van. I wanted that lifestyle soooooo bad! But there was no way I could quit my job and sell all my belongings like so many other full-time TH-camrs. It's taken me 30 years of going to auctions and yard sales to buy tools. There's no way I'm gonna sell them. So I decided to start the channel to show people we can have a full-time job, a mortgage, kids, and still have awesome adventures, just like our favorite TH-camrs. Thanks again for watching!
Good video. I figured you made it back home, and your knowledge as well as your “McGyver” problem-solving abilities showed well. But I could not have enjoyed a weekend the way you did. I’d have been too on edge and worried about the engine not working, and possibly being stuck. So I appreciate and commend your ability to keep calm and level headed. Thanks again for the video.

Once again your little heater and the inverter/gen saved the day for you
@@KennyOfAllTrades
I could see how condensation would thrive in those conditions. That would definitely wreck havoc in the fuel tank.
Crazy man.
I have all kinds of ideas on this but since ive never been in the snow I'll spare you 😂 Glad it all worked out.
Thank goodness you made it home!!🎉
Thank you again for your adventures. I understand your time is limited. I find solitude in your videos. My sister has been dealing with cancer for 16 years. She’s in stage four with a lot of different health and wellness cycles. She’s been declining more since last June. Your videos and the adventures that you take us all on take us away, sometimes far away, from our daily lives.
Glad she came around and you made it. You considered getting rid of the generator some day if you get new power sources...I'd keep it. It was a hero this trip. Cold does things as you very well know. Take care.
Oh DEFINITELY, KEEP the GENERATOR Kenny!! 🌲 🏞 🌲 🌲 🌲
Another great one as always thanks Kenny ❤💯👍
This may sound crazy but while i was in Germany we used to take a propane torch to the oil and gas filters to the generators during winter ! Got to be careful but it always worked ! And I'm talking about the winter months ! Diesel hates the cold !
I thought about a heat gun. Your way would definitely work too!
Kenny, you gotta rely on folks sometimes , give your friend a call,
Thank you Kenny for another suspenseful camping video. You are far braver than I would be. Even as a Minnesota 'boy', you wouldn't find me out there in those temperatures camping. "No, Siree Bob!" Thankfully, "We're havin' a heat wave" 🤣and are up to 32F ! Come on spring!
Good you made it home. Hopefully you get your toofy looked at.
Awesome suggestions. I was eating the soup last night and thought......this would be out of this world with bacon. Lol
Hi Kenny, I enjoy your channel started watching you at the beginning. I love your night walks, but I think you need some night vision binocular .😎
That would be awesome 👌
Always enjoy your adventures, last weekend it got down to 39 degrees in tampa fla, had to put on long pants, tomorrow 82 , back to shorts😊
I always wear shorts, even in the rain, but, if we have snow, then I MUST put on long pants and I hate that!
I dress for MY comfort and strangers see me and they always make rude comments. Hahahaha! 😅 😃 😂
Great job getting things warmed up and getting home.
Thanks for another great video and for showing us you got home safe and sound.
Just another winter adventure in Minnesota
Thanks for sharing 🤙
We’re here Kenny! Once again, we were anxiously awaiting your drop! ❤️❤️
Kevin & Mariann
You're a hard worker and a good man Kenny. Good to see that you're enjoying life and nature.
Great video. They make a fuel filter head heater. It might be worth checking out. I'm glad you made it back safe.
I think that is going to be my next project. That may have prevented this problem.
Lol hahahaha, I LOVE it!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Yes, I think the issue was the service station. It only happens when I fill up at the holiday. They may be getting water in their underground holding tanks.
Great video as always! Watch you every week. Just glad you got home. Hope you can get that tooth fix. Stay blessed!
Very informative. Blessings everyone 🌱
Just let it idle and don't shut it off. As a tank commander, we would leave them running 24/7 during cold weather trianing, but I had 300 gallons of diesel too.
What fuel were you using at the time though? Current JP-8 doesn't have the waxing and gelling issues like diesel.
A friend had an old school diesel Lincoln. He left it idling all night so it wouldn't gel up.
Sucks you had to work on your truck besides enjoying your weekend camping.glad you made it home safe..you definitely need to get the fuel problem fixed.thank God you have that little heater..great video.cant wait till next Tuesday.
My husband and I enjoy your videos. I know,
I’v seen you do it many times in your video cleaning your kitchen with 409.
That is a good idea. I really should be doing that.
Good luck with that Tom! 😅😃😂
Kenny the best helper you can have when breakdowns occur is the knowledge of how it works, as then you know what to do to make it work. You used what you had available to fix the problem and it worked perfectly…
That meal you prepared looked really good…
Glad you got home safely.
Another interesting and eventful video, thanks for sharing. Thanks for taking us on a night walk...and cold weather comfort food
You are a good man. May God bless you abundantly!
Thank you so much.
Your knowledge is invaluable. Wish I knew more. I'm afraid I'd be stranded.
I KNOW that I WOULD be stranded!! 😣
Kenny you had some trials and tribulations this round. Keep up the great stuff. We look forward to your drops every week.
Heyy Kenny, nice campsite beautiful scenery, the soup looked delicious, so glad you got the truck started and you made it home, stay safe 😊
