This is really interesting. I’m 39, and I grew up and lived in Crawley until I was 18, which has a very Estuary English accent. I then lived in London and worked in marketing agencies where people had more RP accents. I’ve lived in Surrey for 15 years. Obviously, my family hasn’t noticed my gradual accent changes, but if I talk to old school friends, they say I sound “posh” now. I probably wouldn’t sound posh to people with an RP accent or a complete Surrey accent. I think I have a mix of Estuary and Surrey. My daughter definitely has a Surrey accent though. It’s all very fascinating.
Ross Beadman, who played the slaughtered Youngling in _Revenge Of The Sith_ is from Surrey. His accent was very pronounced in the scene where he’s about to get murdered. "Master Skywalker, there are too many of them. What are we going to do?"
I live in surrey, and there's a more common tongue around Chertsey, Addlestone, Shepperton, Sunbury, Ashford, it's changing now due to migration and the accents becoming more condensed. But you didn't mimmick how almost every trade's person from surrey speaks...
Accents in Surrey are also affected by social class. Working class Surrey sounds more like estuary. Interesting video. Could you compare accents of people who live in the same town but different social background?
Very interesting, thank you! I'm from Dorset with a very strong west country yap, but my husband is from Surrey (where we both live now). The Surrey accent sounds so bland to me (I suppose because of the similarities with RP), but now I'll be looking out for the nuances 😜
I am from Indonesia country. I really want to stay in England at least for 1 year to learn a lot of british native speaker accent. I hope there is someone to help me be there.

Southern British accent sounds so cute ❤❤
The Stranglers are from Guildford and Genesis formed at Charterhouse School in Godalming (not just Peter Gabriel)
True enough

Those areas are actually Middlesex/outer London and quite run down. They’re not really what people think of when they imagine Surrey.

Yes I can put it on the cards
wasn't Julie Andrews born there?
Indeed she was

Nice. Thanks for the comment.
Recently learned my ancestor Johnathan Tribe came from Surrey to Illinois in 1819.
Just like Eric Clapton, who was born there in 1945
So do people in Sutton and Croydon speak South London English or Surrey English?
Probably more south London
@@BritishNativeSpeaker Thanks

Good for you
The Who came from Surrey too!
Weren't Keith Moon and Oliver Reed neighbours, I believe.
@@BritishNativeSpeaker I think that was later on, when both had become successful.
But the Who are from Acton West London
@@BritishNativeSpeaker Someone from Surrey told me the Who were from there. I guess they lied 😞
I mean the Beatles lived in Surrey too, so they were all there at some point!
